Advantages: Size, capacity, does the job! Disadvantages: Stand, heat
I bought the 250gb Buffalo hard disk from Amazon and paid 95gbp. I need the extra capacity as I have a laptop which perfectly meets my needs with a 20gb hard disk, but then purchased a 60gb iPod which required extra space.
The buffalo drive perfectly meets my requirements, and now is home to my photo's, music and video.
Positives
------------
Capacity - unless major movie files are your needs, 250gb ... ...you are downloading movies that are 2gb in size - that is still 125 movies!
Noise - it doesn't make any.
Reliability - been using it every day for 6 months and it is has not let me down once.
Ease of use - plugged in to various pc's, in various countries, and it just works. Two lights on front (Power and Access) so nothing too complicated there. Power switch on back allowing manual on, auto on, and a seperate ... more

Positives ------------
Capacity - unless major movie files are your needs, 250gb is sufficient for most users. In fact even if you are downloading movies that are 2gb in size - that is still 125 movies!
Noise - it doesn't make any.
Reliability - been using it every day for 6 months and it is has not let me down once.
Ease of use - plugged in to various pc's, in various countries, and it just works. Two lights on front (Power and Access) so nothing too complicated there. Power switch on back allowing manual on, auto on, and a seperate on/off switch. Simple.
Cables - simple power supply and USB connector (lack of Firewire will put off some)
Ruggedness - I've banged it around a bit but it is holding up well.
Spec - capacity is great as mentioned above, but also spin speed of 7200m is good. My problem is i connect to a USB1 port, but this is a USB2 device.
Cost - this thing keeps falling in price, and it was already great value for money when i bought it for 95gbp!
Negatives -------------
Stand - two little plastic feet that help the disk stay upright (although it does without them). One broke within the first few days, mainly due to my clumsiness, but don't rely upon them.
Heat - case does get a little warm with continuous use, but this is a minor gripe.
Overall ----------
Need extra space and a reliable simple to use external drive. Buy this.
Advantages: Alternative Power Modes, USB2.0 Connection Disadvantages: Tendency To Heat Up Quickly
...music and documents and the Buffalo 250GB Hard Drive was the perfect solution.
Whilst it isn't the most attractive looking unit, it is purely practical. It also comes with a USB 2.0 Lead in the box (Which is a pleasant change from the norm!) The alternative power supply options are a stroke of genius. You can either have the unit permanently on (Which is useful in the case of using the hard drive as Network attached storage through a PC) or "On ... ...automatically maps the drives on your system and serves files at a more than acceptable speed.
For £75 it's not bad at all...
So, in essence, every part of this buffalo was used. Including the handy little feet that they provide to make the thing stand up... ...
