There comes a time when you need to get an external hard drive, after all there is a limit to how many internal ones you can attach to a motherboard (varies, normally about 3).
I personally use a lot of drive space, going into the terabytes, so every now and then I have to attach a new external HD. This time I bought this one, and I am quite happy with it.
An important feature that the DriveStation fulfills is that it ... ...first impressions are often lasting impressions - and the first impression I got from this was professional and ruthlessly efficient.
The 500GB is generous considering it only cost me £100 or so, which is pretty damn good for external drives. 500GB will last me a good couple of months, then I reckon I will go and buy myself another of these beasts, my computer area will look like an industrial server zone!

An important feature that the DriveStation fulfills is that it looks nice. Its more important than manufacturers often think, as first impressions are often lasting impressions - and the first impression I got from this was professional and ruthlessly efficient.

I did actually buy this drive expecting to have to install some software and download some tedious updates, but that never happened! I just plugged it in and voila! I had an external drive connected! It is accessed as per usual through the standard windows explorer and doesn't require any real technical know-how.
Another thing is that this drive is so quiet you forget it is there! There are no fans in the case yet it somehow manages to stay really cool - and bear in mind this is summer in the UK and computers overheat in the summer in the UK. Put the drive in whatever position you like and you won't hear any noise and it won't get hot.
The product also comes with some automatic backup software from Memeo, which works although I don't use it. It also has SecureLockWare which provides security through encryption to your data on the drive, it worked fine when I tried it.
The drive runs at 7200 rpm (revolutions per minute) which is nothing special but still on the very fast end of drive speeds, and to be honest it doesn't matter anyway what your drive's speed is. But if you care about that, then the DriveStation won't dissapoint!
So, all things accounted for, it is a good looking, large capacity, high speed, good value for money USB external drive that doesn't break, could be used by ANYONE and has plenty of extra stuff. And I recommend it to any computer user that needs some more space away from their motherboard.
Advantages: Uses 75 percent less energy than standard drivers. Disadvantages: Takes long to detect on computer
I just bought one of these from Argos for around 53.79 quid and it is a great product. If you buy this from Argos you get a free 2 gb flash pen that will probably come handy some day. The reasons for why i think this product is very good is because it does exactly what it says AND it uses 75 percent less power than standard drivers which is really good if you pay high electric bills. The design of this product is nice and stylish, looks nice, neat ... ...about this is that as soon as you plug it in it turns on, so there's no pressing any switches at the back. The only problems i have with this is that my computer takes a really long time to detect the drive (usually 7-8 minutes) and i have a usb 2 port aswell. ...
