Advantages: 750GB, 7200rpm, Hi-Speed USB, Very reliable & Easy To Use Disadvantages: None
The BuffaloDriveStation Turbo USB HD-HS750U2750GB is a very useful external hard drive. I have networked computers so use it for back up and storage, which makes it easy for the networked computers to access the same data from one unit.
The unit itself is well designed and looks good, its basically just going to sit next to your computer and is just a shell for the hard drive inside and for that it looks quite cool. The dimensions of the unit is 1.8" (w), 6.4" (d), 7.9" (h) and it weighs around 1.5kg.
The external hard drive lets you back up and easily access various stored files and folders without taking up room on your PC's main hard drive. This is based on the SATA hard drive technology which is for larger capacity and with turbo USB technology, The hard drives transfer rate is much more than those of standard USB hard ...
Advantages: Alternative Power Modes, USB2.0 Connection Disadvantages: Tendency To Heat Up Quickly
And it is, pretty much. I bought this product simply because I ran out of hard drive space on my current PC. I needed somewhere to store all of my music and documents and the Buffalo 250GB Hard Drive was the perfect solution.
Whilst it isn't the most attractive looking unit, it is purely practical. It also comes with a USB 2.0 Lead in the box (Which is a pleasant change from the norm!)
The alternative power supply options are a stroke of genius. You can either have the unit permanently on (Which is useful in the case of using the hard drive as Network attached storage through a PC) or "On when required" which is great for all of those who are concerned about conserving energy.
The setup disk is standard nowadays....Autorun, is the way forward. Next, Next, Next and your done. It automatically maps the drives on your ...
Advantages: fast, high capacity, looks good, reliable, easy to use Disadvantages: it makes my other drives look bad
There comes a time when you need to get an external hard drive, after all there is a limit to how many internal ones you can attach to a motherboard (varies, normally about 3).
I personally use a lot of drive space, going into the terabytes, so every now and then I have to attach a new external HD. This time I bought this one, and I am quite happy with it.
An important feature that the DriveStation fulfills is that it looks nice. Its more important than manufacturers often think, as first impressions are often lasting impressions - and the first impression I got from this was professional and ruthlessly efficient.
The 500GB is generous considering it only cost me £100 or so, which is pretty damn good for external drives. 500GB will last me a good couple of months, then I reckon I will go and buy myself another of these beasts ...
