LinkStation EZ Network Hard Drive offers a simple centralized location for storing and sharing digital content. Share a hard drive with multiple PCs and laptops on your home network! Setup requires no special skills and is done in minutes. Just run the Wizard and you are ready to go. There is nothing else to configure.

There's also a ghettoblaster style mains socket and a 40-50mm fan grill. The fan is a little bit noisy but you wouldn't notice it in our server room. It's also drowned out by the sound of the drives when their in operation. There's also a wonderful silver panel on the front of the unit with ultra-low profile status indicators for power and network.
A quick look under the hood reveals two Hitachi deskstar 1TB drives which are mounted at the front of the case. This is a joy to see as Hitachi drives are my personal favourites after a review I saw showed they were almost on a par with Western Digitals Raptors in terms of speed, but with decent capacity and a lower price tag. ...the average hardback book. A little heavier, but I think that's forgiveable.
A quick read of the very basic printed manual, and the device was plugged in.
It's important to realise at this stage that the linkstation is Network Attached Storage, and not just an external hard disk. It needs to be connected to a router, and it needs to be connected by an ethernet cable. Fortunately Buffalo have thought to provide one. Even better, it's a flat one, so will happily run under your carpet if so required. Both Euro and GB type wall plugs are included, as is a CD with software on it.
It looks ok as well, although that's fairly subjective really. I wouldn't mind it sitting on the bookcase in full view, but my wife would.
