Background: Cider has always been one of my favourite drinks. In my younger days I used to love either Strongbow or Woodpecker Ciders. These days there seems more choice with more extensive advertising campaigns to encourage us on warm summer days to enjoy a refreshing glass of cider with ice. About Bulmers cider: The Rev Charles Bulmer established his first Cider factory and orchard in 1887 in Hereford. Production and demand continued to grow and by 1931 the company employed 431 people. By 1971 a factory had been set up in New South Wales, Australia and by 1994 Bulmers cider was being ... more

Advantages Advantages Good value if you are a fan of apples

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tastes too much like apple cider

I am a big fan of pear ciders which is no secret and in particular I find Kopperberg to be one of the best; though that's just my opinion. With the popularity of the pear cider phenomenon in recent times it's also seen the prices of such popular brands soar. For a regular sized bottle of Kopperberg it is well over the £2.30 mark at our local supermarket, so I thought I would test out one of it's competitors and started scouring the shelves.. Having perused the alcohol section for quite some time I found this rather large bottle of Bulmers Pear Cider to stand out. The fact that it was 1 litre ... more

    Advantages Advantages tastes smooth

Disadvantages Disadvantages pear taste not very strong

When I’m having a drink and want to have something quite smooth and easy on the stomach I always tend to go for a cider. I do like most brands of cider but I find the likes of Magners and Bulmers just seem to go down a lot nicer. I usually buy the normal Bulmers but at the weekend I wanted a bit of a change to my usual Bulmers, so I opted for the Pear flavoured one which I have had before but which I do like. PACKAGING The packaging of the Bulmers bottles is quite distinct; they come in a medium sized dark brown glass bottle. They have a green foil wrapper around the neck of the bottle with ... more

3 Stars Bull me up!! 15/08/2012

    Advantages Advantages Refreshing pear cider

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacks the richness of some other ciders that I'm used to

At one time (a long time ago) I was a complete party animal. However no longer am I and I wouldn't say I'm at all anti-drink but it's really occasionally I participate as I find that alcohol really doesn't suit my somewhat fiery temperament at all! However I now live in Somerset and my mate runs a pub so I find that I'm expected to be a cider drinker by her punters and constantly have people buying me drinks which means that of late I have not only suffered a fair few hangovers but that I'm becoming rather expert on cider too! lol Pear cider isn't all that familiar to me at all however. I have ... more

    Advantages Advantages Tasty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't really taste of pears

Bulmers Pear Cider: On a recent trip to the supermarket I spotted some Bulmers Pear Cider on offer and decided to give it a go as I love REAL cider and have liked a couple of Pear Ciders in the past. The bottle is what initially attracted me to it; it is a large, (568ml), brown glass bottle with a traditional style “crown” cap. The cap is covered by green bright foil decorated with the Bulmers logo and leaves. The label is vaguely apple shaped and very green with a picture of a couple of pears. It has very “retro” feel to it and I think it looks quite funky. Once you prise open the lid you get ... more
