What is a Bumbo? A Bumbo is a seat, and it is designed for babies who can hold up their own head without it lolling around, but who are not old enough to be able to sit by themselves without assistance. The Bumbo has won awards for its innovative design and high safety standards. It can be used anywhere, you can take it to the beach, to other people's houses to feed your baby in, or as a parking spot for a baby when you are attending to another child. Bumbo do recommend that you do not use the chair on raised levels, uneven surfaces, as a car seat or in the bath, but I do believe this is a given!
What does a Bumbo look like? Many people are mistaken for the Bumbo being a potty, as its a similar design of the babies legs peeking through holes at the front of the chair. There is a section at the front of the chair which is higher than the leg holes, this stops the baby from falling forward and supports their lumber joints. The back of the Bumbo is built even higher so that this helps the babies posture, and stops them from falling backwards! It has been tested and endorsed by paediatrics and orthopaedic faculties. It has the "Bumbo" emblem on the front of the chair, but in the same colour as the rest of the chair so it doesn't emblazon out too much.
You can get the Bumbo in 6 different colours, so you can have it so it matches your décor if the mood takes you! -Blue -Aqua -Yellow -Lime -Lilac -Hot Pink
What is the Bumbo made from? The Bumbo is made from a low-density foam material, which makes the chair lightweight and portable. With it being so light, once the baby is sat in it, the chair will not budge, even if my son is wiggling around! It is soft and comfortable for the baby. The outer edge of the the material doesn't mark or scratch, and it easy to clean with a wetwipe or sponge. The Bumbo is non-toxic.
Price I feel this section is the drawback of would could be a fantastic product, if only the price was lower! When I first needed one 6 months ago, the Bumbo's where priced at £40. I do feel this is very expensive, even though you do get a lot of use out of the Bumbo. Nowadays, because of the popularity, prices have dropped a little. You can buy new off Amazon for between £28-32, (it depends on the colour you are wanting), £33 from Argos, and Mothercare sell the Bumbo, with an attached play tray for £36.99.
Thankfully, I borrowed mine from my Sister-In-Law! Freebie!
Add on's Bumbo have now introduced a play tray to fit onto the front of the Bumbo, this is suitable to feed your baby on, or for them to play! I don't have one of these so cannot comment further.
How long can my baby fit in the Bumbo? Bumbo recommend the chair for ages 6 weeks-14 months. However as soon as my child can stand up in it, I will no longer be using it (which Bumbo recommend), it would depend what age your child could stand in it, as obviously this would then render the Bumbo unsafe. Bumbo are looking into a Bumbo for older children - watch this space!
Would I recommend the Bumbo? I definitely would. It has been a constant part of our day since Sam was 10 weeks old, he is now 9 months old and is still a lifesaver! I use the Bumbo all over the house, nowadays for a shorter period of time than I did when he was younger as i'm scared of him standing up and falling out as he is coming to that stage. I would urge that if you did get one that you looked second hand first so you are not paying over the odds, as mentioned, the Bumbo is cleanable so second hand could be an option, plus you can always resell as it seems everybody loves a Bumbo!
Advantages: Looks cute. Can be used for babies that can't sit unaided. Easy to clean. Disadvantages: Our baby hated his. Expensive. A Bouncy chair does the same job for less.
...more traditional bouncy chairs, a Bumbo supports a baby in an upright position and the deep-cut leg-holes and the design of the chair mean that a more active baby can't (allegedly) get out of one of these by themselves. The Bumbo comes in a range of colours, including pink, blue and aqua. These seats weren't really around when my oldest was a tiny baby but they seemed really popular when I was expecting my youngest. I think they look really cute ... ...Unlike fabric baby seats, the Bumbo can just be wiped over with a damp cloth and, as it made of a rubbery foam material and comes in one piece, there isn't really anything to get broken or show signs of use. Having said that, the day we bought this our oldest was prancing around with it on his head and, from what I'm not sure, he left a small grease mark on the inside of the Bumbo that we never managed to get rid of! Typical! So long as you use this ...

Advantages: portable, lightweight seat; comfortable design; baby can sit up unaided; wipes clean Disadvantages: baby might not like it; it tips back in an unsafe way; only suitable for baby from 4 months and up to 22lb in weight
Bumbo baby seats are all the rage at the moment. The bumbo originated in South Africa, and has now taken the UK by storm. Cool babies have bumbos! The bumbo seat looks at first glance like a large foam potty. It's a peculiar looking seat that looks inflexible and uncomfortable, but the reverse is actually true. It is designed so that the babies own weight holds them securely and comfortably in position, with their bum lower than their legs. The base ... ...bouncy or recliner chairs, the bumbo supports baby in an upright position, which means a greater field of vision for curious little learners. Some babies can't wait to sit up on their own, as they realise they can see more from that perspective. Until they can sit unsupported it can be frustrating for them, which means the bumbo is a great alternative to being sat upright and supported by an adult. Hence the bumbo "babysitter" has more than one meaning! ...

Advantages: Enables baby to sit unaided, so handy for parents. Disadvantages: Can be dangerous as baby becomes more active, only got a few months use, quite expensive.
The Bumbo is a seat that enables babies to sit unaided. It can be used as soon as baby can lift their head - I would say at around 3 or 4 months. The Bumbo should stop being used when the child is able to remove themselves from the Bumbo - the company suggest at around 12 - 14 months but I would suggest around 11 months depending on how active and developed your baby is. The Bumbo is deep and has high sides and high back for support. There is also ... ...I brought a Bumbo for my daughter when she was around 4 months old and it was an immediate god send. She took to it instantly and really seemed to enjoy the independence of sitting up by herself. I would give her toys and surround her with toys so she wouldn't get bored and could make her own fun. She had just started on solid food but couldn't sit up by herself so a high chair was out of the question - feeding was made so easy for both of us thanks ...

Advantages: Lets you child sit unaided safely Disadvantages: Baby could get out of it when they are older
...to wipe clean. The Bumbo is designed to support your baby in an upright position safely so it gives you peace of mind that they are safe so you can get on with what ever you need to (although I have read that when they get older they can wriggle out of it), it also lets them sit unaided with both hands free so they can play. The Bumbos are not over expensive, Amazon have them at £27.95 with free delivery but I found that if you look in the new & used section (usually next to the main price) you can get a brand new one for £10 with £6 postage so a saving of over £10. There are also play trays available for these chairs, I do not have one but they look like quite a good idea, they give the chair a tray like you ...

Advantages: Baby can play in the Bumbo. Disadvantages: Hard to get baby in & out.
I bought a Bumboseat for my son a few weeks ago & he does now seem to enjoy sitting in it for a while (which is great ? gives me a free pair of hands for a few minutes!). Trouble is, he can?t DO anything when he?s sat in it. I can put a toy in his hands but he soon loses his grip & drops it & is then unable to retrieve it. This then, is where the Bumbo play tray comes in?.
The tray is a cream coloured piece of plastic into which the supporting stem can be inserted. This then clips over the central part of the Bumboseat & underneath the front edge of the Bumbo. The tray is a good size ? quite capable of holding a few small toys for baby to play with, & being a smooth plastic means that such as highchair toys with suction cups can be easily affixed. The seat & tray combination is also useful for feeding.
The downside to ...
Advantages: Converts into table and chair, cheap. Disadvantages: Bulky, fairly heavy.
My daughter, Caitlin, is now nearly 11 months old, and until last week we didn't own a highchair. We fed her in a Bumbobaby seat (see review)However, recently my little princess has decided that mealtimes are a case of eat, escape from Bumbo, go play and return when more food is required!!
The only solution was to get a seat which would restrain her.....but which one?
Looking through the trusty Mothercare catalogue there was a huge range of highchairs available, and I didn't know where to start.
MY REQUIREMENTS
-The main thing was it had to have a food tray as we don't have a dining table.
-Caitlin had to be restrained so she couldn't escape!
-Had to be easy to wipe clean
-Had to be reasonably priced.
As Caitlin was already coming up to 11 months old most of the highchair would have a limited life, as she would outgrow them ...
Advantages: good for baby Disadvantages: expensive, ugly!
I really wasn't sure what to think about this! My work bought me one for my baby and I thought it was an odd present to give! It certainly doesn't look nice as it does look so much like a very large and cumbersome potty!
It has actually come in very useful though and is now an essential part of our day!
The bumbo is designed so the baby can sit up unaided. Baby's bum slots into the seat and it's legs stick out in front of it through the gaps. there is a little raised area at the back to help support the back. This isn't very high so if baby pushes back their neck can go over the back of it but this helps to strengthen their neck muscles and I have noticed that after a few attempts my baby stopped doing this!
After a few weeks I noticed that my baby was suddenly able to sit up a lot better and I can only think it's due to ...
