I purchased one because my friend recommended it. She used to feed her baby on the kitchen worktop sat in one of these. (Can I just say, that it is not recommended to use them on high surfaces!!!).
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Well, the packaging is a big hexagon shaped box, with a lid that comes off, so its easy to remove the Bumbo from the box.

The design is such that baby is sat down deep in the Bumbo, with a large section that goes between their legs. The Bumbo supports the baby to be sat upright. There is a bit at the back whic helps support the baby's head.
MY EXPERIENCE OF THE BUMBO
I first put Melissa in the Bumbo when she was about 3.5 months old and she wasnt really ready for it. She wasnt supporting her little head properly at that point and she just wobbled so much that I took her out of it again.
I recently tried her again, now she is 4.5 months old and she is much better.
She likes to sit in it because she is upright and looking at things from the right way, rather than always being on her back on the floor on her playmat.
I have sat her in it while feeding her and its great while she is still too small for the high chair.
I have not left her in it for too long so far, but she definitely likes to be sat in it, as some of the pictures below show.
PRICE AND COLOURS
I purchased mine for £24.99 from Mothercare, but they usually cost £29.99. The little tray is purchased separately and costs £9.99 from Mothercare. They have it in Aqua, Pink and Red and Blue.
Kiddicare have them for £27.97 www.bumboplaytray.co.uk have the Bumbo and tray for £35.94 Amazon have the Bumbo for £29.96
So you can see that you can get it from various places for various prices, with or without the tray.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS?
Yes I would, its great for baby to sit in, its more upright than the bouncy chair, which cant be used after 6 months anyway.
It encourages baby to sit up and look around and it also helps to build neck strength.
Obviously do not leave your baby unattended or on a high surface! Other obvious safety points, do not use in water or on an uneven surface.
When I first saw a bumbo my initial thought was that it was a potty. It looks like one that's for sure! I thought it looked like a very ugly seat to have your baby sat in and ddn't think it was appealing at all so I bypassed it and didn't buy one but then over a few weeks I realised that nearly all of my friends who had babies had a bumbo and they all couldn't rate them highly enough.
I decided to check them out but at £40 I thought they were pretty ... ...reasonable to me.
The bumbo is made from very stiff foam and is shaped so it moulds around your baby with their legs poking out directly in front of them and their backs supported with the back of the chair although only up to a certain height so it helps your baby to develop their back muscles. The bumbo is designed so that your baby can be sat upright and using their own strength not just being supported constantly. My baby didn't like being flat ...

Advantages: enables my daughter to sit up unaided Disadvantages: Not meant to put it on a raised surface (i do though ssshhh!!)
I am pleased to say that this is one of the best products i have ever bought in my entire life, and as you can see from all my reviews, that is alot :)
****Product Info & facts****
It is a fantastic chair made from a soft non toxic super light material. It uses your babies own body weight to enable them to support themselves to sit upright.
It can be used from 4 - 12 months ( my wee girl has been in hers since she was only 3 months) . It can be ... ...anything flat!!! It comes packaged in a large box shaped like a big 50p piece. It looks slightly like a potty but trust me it's far from it! It comes in a few colours, blue, red and a baby pink, i have also seen a green one in some shops, but i'm told that is not standard.
****Personal Opinion****
I think this is the best baby product ever made. I out my baby girl Sky in it all the time, she loves to sit and watch tv in it, or i can put her on ...

Advantages: useful, helps baby to sit Disadvantages: price
...okay and accepted!
The bumbo looks really funny to look at. When I first saw them I did think it was a potty as it looks just like one but actually it's a little seat!
It's designed for babies who are unable to sit up unaided. It helps support their back so they can sit upright without having to be wedged upright with cushions. It's good because unlike with cushions the bumbo supports so the baby stays upright and doesn't slump down.
The bumbo ... ...we have definitely used the bumbo more than the bouncer. The bumbo has helped my baby to be upright and learn how to develop these core muscles so it's been really good. She is 6 months old now and still fits in it but it's getting a bit tight around her legs!
On a negative note as well as price it's also not extremely safe- there are no straps or anything so babies shouldn't be left unattended.
It's a good little buy though it definitely helped ...

Advantages: Well designed, durable, a godsend! Disadvantages: Not cheap, short period of usefulness.
...an appropriate height.
The bumbo is specially designed to help babies sit up and in a comfy and correct sitting position. I believe it helped both my children sit independently from an earlier age than perhaps they would have without it. Its wipe clean and soft to touch and babies are unable to get out so they are perfectly safe. Both my children stopped using these by 5/6 months as they could sit unaided so they were only used for a matter of months.
... ...weaning as the baby is sitting comfortably and still. However they should not be used on any raised surfaces.
They are expensive at around £28 and obviously have a short life as much of the equipment used for children of this age! However they are durable and will last for several children. Mine has been used for 4 children but you wouldn't know it! ...

Quick review of Bumbo Baby Sitter
I bought this bumbo chair in pink, second hand off ebay after reading great reviews about it, unfortunatly when I recieved it it had a yellow stain all around the inside rim which I couldn't wipe off. After a good wipe with some anti-bac cleaner I decided to try it out putting it down to wear and tear and put my 15 week daughter in it . We were both a little unimpressed, not sure who was more so and a few minutes later I realised what and where the stain had maybe come from she had filled her nappy and it had found an air gap and exploded all the way up her back. Not sure if I will try again or attempt a new one. ...

Advantages: lightweight, easy to clean and comfortable Disadvantages: quite big, not sure its secure for wriggly babies
I had been looking at these on different web sites even before my baby had been born. I thought that they were just another unnecessary thing to buy and would be a waste of money when i had so much other stuff to buy.
Then along came this little strong willed baby whose aim in little life is to do things long before hes supposed to ie:- Sit up!!
He loved his rocker chair as he could see everything that was going on but got to the point where it wasn't quite up right enough for him, he wasn't safe in it as he was trying to pull himself up and so something else was needed.
In came the Bumbobabysitter. I order the aqua colour and a lovely colour it is to (it also comes in lime, blue and yellow). It was alot bigger that i had imagined but the material it is made out of was alot softer and lighter than i'd also thought. It has ...
Advantages: Can go on table, on floor, in garden; no straps; easy to clean Disadvantages: a larger baby could tip themselves backwards
I purchased a Bumbo, much against the wishes of my husband, when our baby William was about 4 months old.
I had started weaning him, and was getting very frustrated trying to feed him in his bouncy chair - for a start, I had to sit on the floor, and secondly, I had to wash the seat cover every day.
The Bumbo was a Godsend. The babys sits in it and the weight of his legs 'close' the top of the leg holes making him safe and secure.
Although recommended for use on the floor only, I must admit I sit him on a table in it and can then feed him easily.
The Bumbositter is soft, pliable plastic and he loves sitting in it. It is also very easy to clean, and very portable so can be taken to friends, the beach, restaurants etc. It is also suitable for babies who can't yet sit up entirely unaided, as it supports them so well ...

Advantages: good for baby Disadvantages: expensive, ugly!
I really wasn't sure what to think about this! My work bought me one for my baby and I thought it was an odd present to give! It certainly doesn't look nice as it does look so much like a very large and cumbersome potty!
It has actually come in very useful though and is now an essential part of our day!
The bumbo is designed so the baby can sit up unaided. Baby's bum slots into the seat and it's legs stick out in front of it through the gaps. there is a little raised area at the back to help support the back. This isn't very high so if baby pushes back their neck can go over the back of it but this helps to strengthen their neck muscles and I have noticed that after a few attempts my baby stopped doing this!
After a few weeks I noticed that my baby was suddenly able to sit up a lot better and I can only think it's due to ...
This internationally award winning baby seat from South Africa, is one of the cutest inventions we've discovered. The Bumbo(TM) is made from a soft, lightweight, non-toxic material. It can be used on any flat surface, and is durable and easy to clean. It supports your baby in comfort in an upright sitting position, and there are no uncomfortable straps to worry about. Bumbo is designed so that the baby's own body weight helps to slightly narrow the gap above its legs, which gently keeps your baby in place. Remember: Never leave your child unattended when in a Bumbo(TM), do not use on an uneven surface, as a car seat, in a bath or in other water. Do not use until your baby is fully able to support its head.
