The brand
Although the Burberry brand has developed a 'chavvy' following, it is still very popular due to the high quality of its products. The Burberry brand was foundered by Thomas Burberry way back in 1856 in Basingstoke, so it is a very British brand. This is the main attraction for a lot of wearers of the products from this fashion house. Being British is something the British are very proud of, and by supporting this they are celebrating their Britishness.
Personally I believe that a lot of the Burberry range of clothing is very expensive, and the trademark Burberry check immediately makes you stand out. This isn't always a good thing, and I personally prefer more subtle clothing - particularly for more formal attire.
Burberry Touch For Men
The product I am reviewing here is the Burberry Touch For Men Eau De Toilette, and it comes in a 30ml size. I have owned this particular scent for a number of years now, so it has to be said that I don't wear it all that often! I am glad I hadn't purchased the 100ml bottle, as I dread to think how long it would have lasted, though I am close to the end of this 30ml size.
First impressions are positive, with the bottle itself carrying quite a clean look. I expected a lot of Burberry check and brash colours, though the bottle is actually quite classy and simplistic. We have a fairly plain looking glass bottle which is quite thick, though it is in an irregular shape in that it tapers. The cap is almost identical in shape to the bottle, though a slightly smaller size. On first look it appears to be made from wood, though this is just the way the plastic has been finished, though it does look quite convincingly wooden. The cap fits very snugly, though it pulls away easily enough. We are then faced with the silver coloured spray dispenser, which is designed to efficiently eject the Eau De Toilette from the bottle.
Overall the first impressions are surprisingly subdued. I expected something more eye-catching, though it makes a pleasant change from the norm. To the front of the glass bottle we see the simple words of 'Burberry Touch For Men', which is written in black text. Underneath the bottle is a discreet label giving minimal details regarding bottle size and manufacturer details.
The scent
As I were surprised by the look of the bottle, I didn't know what to expect with the scent either. I were hoping Burberry hadn't gone for something too outlandish, as a fairly plain bottle is a big statement for the Burberry brand. The first time I used the Eau De Toilette I immediately thought I would wear it often and soon finish the bottle. There is apparently notes of violet and mandarin among a hint of white pepper. Personally I don't find these comments found on most websites to be helpful at all. I much prefer to just smell the scent for myself and make my own judgement.
The scent is very light and quite sweet, with quite a woody smell lingering afterwards. Although I would say the scent is very fresh, I will contradict myself by saying I find it quite a subtle fragrance, though it does have a good staying power. As the scent is quite subtle I find it suitable for all occasions, though as I have barely worn the scent my endorsement doesn't really hold up too well. I think the reason for not wearing this scent is that it is a little too subtle for me, and regardless of where I am going I always like to have a scent that stands out and is fresh.
I would say this scent is aimed at the younger male market, though it could be worn by someone late into their 30's if they so wished. I wouldn't say the scent is youthful, though it is a little too sweet for the older generation in my opinion. Due to the scent lasting so long and being subtle, it only requires a small amount to be applied each time, so this is also perhaps a reason for me having Touch For Men for so long.
Price and availability
The 30ml bottle that I own is available from around the £15 mark, and the 100ml size can be bought for £25. Looking at the retailers currently offering the product for sale, you can pick it up quite easily on the high-street, though online there are some good deals to be found if you do a quick search.
Final thoughts
Although Burberry has become well-known as a 'chavvy' brand, I still respect it very much. As this is a British brand I am happy to get behind it, and we should always be proud of our home brands. Burberry Touch For Men is for the younger Male, and though the scent is quite subtle it does have good staying power, so it wouldn't need to be reapplied during the day. I must even say that once I go to wash my clothes of a shirt I have worn a couple of days before, I can still smell the scent on the material. Burberry Touch For Men is awarded 4 out of 5 stars. It may not suit all tastes, though it does tick a lot of the right boxes.
