ultra-emollient lanolin, coconut oil and sunflower oil, and seals in hydration with beeswax. You can use it on healthy lips for a little peppermint tingle. No wonder it is the most popular product by Burt's Bees. How to Use It Apply balm liberally to your lips as often as needed, particularly in dry, cold or windy conditions. Featured Ingredient: Beeswax A natural wax made by bees in the cell walls of honeycombs, this substance is a natural emulsifier used in cosmetics. Ingredients: Beeswax, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, prunus amydalus dulcis (sweetalmond) oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, tocopheryl acetate, lanolin, symphytum officinale (comfrey) root extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, tocopherol. I really like this product and, although it's not the best on the market, I still have many uses for it. For example, sometimes I use this simply as a balm in an attempt to heal chapped and/or dry lips, whilst other times I will use it as a primer for my lipstick. It beats paying for things like MAC Lip Primer when my budget is tight.
MOISTURISING This product leaves my lips really soft and leaves a tingly minty feeling. But, when the tingle wears off, I find it really necessary to reapply. I don't really know why this is, but the balm is a little bit too clear so this could be one reason.
On thing I have noticed with this balm, though is that if your lips are in a bad state - ver dry, chapped, flaking, and so forth - this balm may not be right for you. For example, when my lips were in a so-so condition, the balm worked brilliantly. Moreover, when my lips were in perfect condition, the balm kept them in tip-top shape. However, I have a bad habit of licking my lips constantly in the Winter which just makes them worse. So I used this balm on my extremely chapped lips and failed to see results. It didn't really work to be honest.
TEXTURE The texture of this product is a somewhat similar to Vaseline, but not as sticky, and definitely a lot creamier. It's not as liquidy/thin though, which makes it perfect, and makes it last longer that initially expected.
SMELL A very minty smell which is lovely. Moreover, it's not so overpowering and strong like some mint-fragranced balms. I would say it also has that "balmy" scent to it, not like Vaseline but like proper chapstick. I know that seems obvious but some balms have such strong fragrances that the balm scent is completely wiped out!
TASTE You can taste the mint in this balm but, like the smell, it's not too strong and certainly won't make you feel like you're sucking a mint cough drop! In fact, it's extremely pleasant and really adds to this lip balm. Definitely one of the best factors of this item.
APPEARANCE WHEN APPLIED This just looks like most other lip balms - clear, but has a creamy lustre-like appearance. It should not turn your lips white, as I read in another review. If this happens, you have probably applied a little too much.
SPF Sadly, this does not have SPF which is a shame because I'm a real SPF freak. This balm would definitely benefit from having SPF included. I don't think Burt's Bees realise just how many people prefer SPF lip items...

However, the stick is more portable and melts a lot less during those hot days, if at all. Being metal, the tin just attracts heat.
GENERAL PACKAGING This balm sports the regular yellow, red and orange packaging found throughout the Burt's Bees range. It also has the bee logo in the centre.
The tin is metal, obviously, with a pop-style lid whereas the tube is plastic with a screw-style base for application. This also has a pop-style lid.
The tube has a sticker, the tin does not; it's 'painted' on, so to speak.
PRICE In terms of the price, it is value for money for me but not sure about other people. As previously mentioned, I like to use this as a primer for my lipstick. This is my main use, rather than an actual balm because I prefer my MAC Tendertone. So people who have bad lips may well be unimpressed by this item. Buy Nivea Lip Care balms for pretty much the same price and you will be much happier with the results.
ALTERNATIVES I thought I would add this little section in at the end because, like I say, this will not work if you have chapped lips in a real need of repair. There doesn't seem to be any point in owning this, therefore, if that's your sole reason for purchasing it. Here are some alternatives that I have found to really work - fast!
* MAC Tendertone Lip Balm SPF12. This is perfect, one of my Holy Grail products. I use this every other day. There are plenty of shades to choose from; the balms are not completely opaque on the lips, they just give add a lil' colour. For example, my brown one looks golden on my lips whereas my hot pink one looks like a gorgeous medium pink wash. They are usually limited edition so if you can't get your hands on one, buy the Lip Conditioners instead - in pot and stick form.
* Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream This is designed for chapped, burnt, dry, etc. etc. skin but can de used on lips, too. I love it. I remember the first time I used it - I had the worst chapped lips ever and put some of this on when I went to bed. I couldn't believe it when my lips were perfect the next day. It really does work within 8 hours - amazing. The smells a bit funky, though, so don't have high hopes for that lol!
* Nivea Lip Care This is like the EA 8Hour Cream - it works literally overnight. I have had the baby blue one with the yellow balm, and the pink one with the pink pearl balm. The baby blue version worked better and is a great, cheaper alternative.
* Vaseline Don't use Vaseline as a balm, it doesn't work in that way. Basically, it is to keep moisture locked in, not restore it or 'create' it. You should use a balm to heal your lips; once they have healed, use Vaseline to keep them that way.
If you are a dedicated Burt's Bees buyer, try their Pomegranate balm as it seems more effective.
Advantages: Soothing, protecting, lasts for a long time, reasonable price Disadvantages: Can make lips turn white if it's a cold day!

Although Burt's Bees is a popular company in the US, I've found their products pretty difficult to locate here in the UK and have usually had to resort to the internet. Good websites are www.myburtsbees.co.uk and www.hqhair.com. You can often find Burt's Bees products on www.asos.com, but they don't always have them and have a far limited number of products in comparison to the other two websites. The clothes store Oasis also has Burt's ...

Advantages: Leaves sore lips kissable once again! Disadvantages: Stock up on it in the States as it's hard to find in the UK.
Burts Bees..... A fantastic and I think quite hip and trendy range of products. I am reviewing the Lip Balm, which I am currently wearing whilst typing this review, so those of you with a 'scratch and sniff' PC - go ahead and try for yourself! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's it all about?
Basically, once upon a time there was a guy (called Burt), he had lots of facial hair. Anyway, ... ...to sell. Not quite sure how he got from that to beauty products but there you go. The long and short of it is that all of Burts Bees products are earth-friendly, natural products.
How will I recognise it?
It comes in either a little yellow 3oz tin or a little yellow 150z tube/stick with a bee on the front (hense the name), which would make it fairly easy to recognise if only you could buy in your local high street shops.
What's in it?

Advantages: Helps lips stay soft and supple. Disadvantages: None
I first discovered Burt's Bees products at my local health food store several years ago. I'm writing this review while sitting in bed with my laptop, as I often do. I look to my left, and on my nightstand are two Burt's Bee's products, one of which is the lip balm. I keep Burt's lip balm and cuticle creme, as well, on my night table so that I use them every night before I go to sleep. This is not a lip gloss, I think of it as more of my daily regimen ... ...of dry, peeling lips. Burt's Bees helps prevent this problem and keeps my lips in good condition. It has a nice, tingly, menthol-like scent and feel but isn't medicinal, which is a big plus.
It doesn't interfere with foods, either. Love It! You'll love it too, especially if you live in or travel to a harsh climate where your lips crack and peel. Enjoy! ...

Advantages: feels great, goes on smooth, smells awesome, heals lips fast Disadvantages: if lips are cracked when you apply, lips will bleed
...many great things about the Burt's Bees line, and how they use natural ingredients such as beeswax (duh) to help with the natural healing of lips. That's why, when I was at my local shop, I picked up a pack of Burt's Bees sample items. It included some hand salve, face scrub, and the worldwide known Beeswax Lip Balm.
The entire kit cost me about 9.00, but it was well worth it, for trying out some of the famous lip balm. After going home and unpacking ... ...a bright yellow-orange colored tube, and uncapped it, where the actual lip balm is clear. The first time I had used the lip balm, I was amazed at the tingy feeling and minty smell that was on my lips. If I had licked my lips, my tongue would be tingly, yet still smell nice! My lips were smooth for a long time, until, I can't remember how, but I had cut my lip, and thought the lipbalm would help it.
The only thing it really did for the cut however, ...

Advantages: peppermint tingle, very hydrating, attractive packaging Disadvantages: effects lasts longer in milder weather, applying from the tin can be a little tricky.
YUMM! :)
Burt's BeesBeeswaxLipBalm. This little tin is a real gem! Supposedly the most popular product made by the company, the super-moisturising ingredients mean that especially in winter or very windy weather lips are healed and protected.
--Effects--
It contains, among other things, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and the all-important beeswax! The beeswax is what apparently "seals in" the hydration.
When applied to dry or chapped lips, I found that they did feel instantly smoother and soothed. In more windy conditions I had to reapply quite often though, as they started to dry out again after 45 minutes or so... Indoors or in milder weather my lips do stay feeling soft for longer though. There is a great peppermint-y tingle that kicks in a minute or two after applying too!
