Advantages: big good quality touch screen, duel dvd digital ariels and tuners
Disadvantages: apsolute absance of buttons, no place to store touch screen stylus

...the archos 704 tv in my opinion is an excellent divice in the archos portable video range. it is a generation 4 device on thier website. it is the replacement to the older archos av700. it has a 7 inch screen and is of a very acceptable resolution. it can be filled with media from the included usb b cable or can act as a usb host, whitch i think is a very useful feature. the optional dvr station (around £60) is great and i would recommend it. a usb hard drive can be added and it makes the archos function in a way like a high capacity hdd recorder. upon picking up the archos the first thing you realise is that it is a very metallic and solidly built device. then you would realise the absance of buttons. this can be annoying as you will need to use the stylus a lot. for example if pausing or ajusting volume. this can be time consuming... Advantages: Records to both HDD and DVD,Freeview

...features such as preview thumbnails of upcoming programes,customisable channel selections,recording quality etc.which can be done within the standard EPG so you have a choice of TV guides not a common featrure on other tuners / recorders. Once mastered operation is very easy I like the facility to alter the recording quality on the HDD, from super to poor quality the choice is yours but with 80Gb there is room for many many hours of recordings. Setting up recording from with in the EPG is just a single button press. With the choice to record to HDD or to a DVD disc. Also the feature that automatically adjusts the quality to fit the space on the inserted DVD discs is very handy,This recorder wil record Dual layer discs so 2 hour + films can be transfered to disc but you will not be able to record copyright protected films as you would expect... Disadvantages: No multiple selection for DVD writing from HDD, no USB port

...In Jan 2006 bought a Umax Chili DVR9200HX recorder from Maplin (it is no longer available anywhere in the UK) and it broke. Got a replacement and that failed too. Finally got a refund after lots of phone calls. Eventually settle for this one which is of a similar spec or better. The price is cheaper than the 9200HX - £170 from eBuyer inclusive of VAT and delivery. This is reasonable priced and is easy to set up and the manual is well written. It has a easy-to-use Guider menu for direct access to DVD/HDD functions. The content menu for DVD/HDD shows all videos, pictures stored and you can select which title to play or which picture to display. It can play and record all the + and - DVD media and got most of the essential connectors - AV DV SCART except USB (useful for my camera or even pen drive DVR9200HX got this). It can play...
