What colour is YOUR parachute?
Review of What Colour Is Your Parachute? (A Practical Manual for Job Hunters and Career Changes) - Richard Bolles by annaroos1

Advantages: Inspiring and motivating
Disadvantages: religious US-centric author

What Color Is Your Parachute is a job hunting manual, but it is also a great deal more than that. This book does not simply give you tips on how to write a CV or to succeed in an interview, but it offers what the author likes to call a "life changing job hunt". The book concentrates on the job hunter him-/herself and how through getting to know what you really desire in life you can find the perfect career. So far more than 8 million copies have ...
...70s and as well as What Color Is Your Parachute, he has written several other career counselling books. In connection with What Color Is Your Parachute he also runs a free job searchers website: www.JobHuntersBible.com where job hunters apart from posting their CV can get tips and advice from the man himself. The book is close to 400 pages long (although there are quite a few drawings and statistical tables to fill the pages up), but as the contents ... Read review

...& shares then this is the book for you. Its full of good advice without all the complicated baffling jargon most books on shares go on about. As someone who has bought stocks and shares and made many mistakes, I wish I had found this book a lot earlier. Dont be put off by the title this is a serious book that can be put down and picked up at will. I have read this book many times and everytime I pick something new up. Most books on money are heavy ... Read review

REASONs to Buy
Review of Life's a Game So Fix the Odds - Philip Hesketh by a-true-ben

Advantages: Easy to read, plenty of advice, well-illustrated with examples, friendly honest approach
Disadvantages: Not all that much use in day to day life, some pointless acronyms

...So I first picked up Life's A Game, with no prior knowledge of the book, its subject or author. Being on a limited student grant, I'm not one for too many impulse buys though. As often when I've been shopping for bargains, I went and researched several prospective purchases online before buying. Since Amazon customers seemed to recommend Life's A Game, I decided to buy it too. The sub-title of the book is 'How to be More Persuasive and Influential ...
...most of us would like, but whether the book delivers is another question. Nonetheless, it clearly marks this out as a self-help/improvement book, along the lines of Dale Carnegie's How To Win Friends and Influence People and Steven Covey's The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (both cited approvingly in the preface). As I read the book, I began to doubt whether it would be of such general interest or use. The author, Phil Hesketh, has had ... Read review

The book
Review of The Motley Fool UK Investment Guide - Bruce Jackson, David Berger by sinclaircorporation

Advantages: Incredibly witty and intelligent.
Disadvantages: The author is so clever that you need to read the book more than once to grasp all meanings

The book is a hugely imformative, but compact resource which aided me greatly in understanding investments and their financial and social implications. I would suggest that a new-version is published as some of the companies suggested with in the book have now become less or more viable in the investment world, than when first written about in the book. This is counter-acted by the theory which is invaluable in all ages and environments, not always ...
...a fine addition to my library and I would recommend it to everyone who is interested (or is already part) of the world of investments. It is also an easy and light read but some of the wit, although funny, detracts from the financial and educational side of the book. ... Read review

Basic principles of effective living!
Review of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Stephen R. Covey by Rodney43

Advantages: Simple character forming habits are easy to understand and apply.
Disadvantages: NONE what so ever

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Published by Franklin Covey Co. and costs up to £10.99. Easily obtained at very low cost from ebay. This is the most amazing life changing book I have ever read and I have read many. Most of the others seem to focus on one aspect of self-improvement whereas this provides a fully comprehensive approach. I started reading this a year or two ago but didn’t ...
...rather than obstacles. habit 7 - sharpen the saw Covey interprets the self into four parts: the spiritual, mental, physical and the social/emotional, which all need feeding and developing. This is the habit of self renewal, says Covey, and it necessarily surrounds all the other habits, enabling and encouraging them to happen and grow. I would say that reading this book will literally change your life! This is powerful stuff and highly recommended. ... Read review
