liar's poker
Review of Liar's Poker - Michael Lewis by
curious_george
Advantages: Reads like a novel whilst also giving a great insite into the powerhouse institutions of the 80's
Disadvantages: technical terminology could be a problem for some, occaisionaly loses focus
One of my electives at university is Technical Analysis and market psychology, and my lecturer (a very successful trader in his own right) recommended this book to all of us students. I can now say that i am very glad that i followed his advice and bought it!
Written by former Salomon Brothers employee and trader Michael Lewis, this semi-autobiographical book is a wonderful account of life for the financial powerhouses of the 1980's, a period which ... ...Saloman brothers.
From the very start it is a gripping account of the culture that dominated the company, including delicious details of the abuses suffered by the newly hired 'trainees', as well as the hilarious excesses of the top brokers, or self named 'big swinging dicks'. A large section of the book illustrates the importance bonds, and charts the Salomon Brothers rise to complete dominance of the market, and then onto the period of complete ...

Get rich eventually and methodically
Review of 50 Prosperity Classics - Tom Butler-Bowdon by
anywho3
Advantages: Great way to find out about the best books about money
Disadvantages: Would liked to have seen more books talking about the mental blocks to getting rich
...The author divides the 50 classics into four manageable sections (and one sub section) ATTRACT IT The author calls this the inner game of wealth. These books talk about getting the mindset for moneymaking. Many of the books in this section are spiritual with lots of spiritual ideas and concepts. Unfortunately I am a little uncomfortable with spirituality so my opinion will probably be biased. I do however like the idea of some mental blocks that ... ...knowledge and reading there are 50 books that could help you on the road to wealth. If only the author had put down which section they belong in (attract it, create it, or manage it) to give you a more informed choice as to what book to buy next. I also recommend buying 50 Success Classics by the same author because I believe you can be successful but not prosperous but you can't be prosperous and not successful. You may think the table is tilted ...

Review of Brilliant NLP: What the Most Successful People Know, Say and Do - David Molden by
lcharm
Advantages: Easy to read, lots of good basic techniques
Disadvantages: None really...it's just right I think!!
I bought this Personal Development book on NLP a few months back because I've heard so much about the topic and wanted to know much more about it, plus it gave me something to read for my US trip.
Firstly What is NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming...sounds complicated doesn't it? It's not really, once you get to know the topic. It is basically a technique/process/ or whatever you may call it, where using, oral and visual (body) ... ...'suggestion' to improve your attitude towards yourself and your goals (auto suggestion) and help build rapport with others. It can also be a state of mind as well. In a nutshell if you are surrounding yourself with positive energy (i.e. positive people and positive thinking) then you are likely to have a more positive attitude towards life regardless of your situation and if you filter out any negativity then you only enhance the positiveness.
Sorry ...

NEBOSH helpful guide.
Review of Introduction to Health and Safety at Work: The handbook for students on NEBOSH and other introductory H&S courses: The Handbook for Students on NEBOSH and Other Introductory H and S Courses - Phil Hughes by
wildtinsey
Advantages: Very useful
Disadvantages: A few mistakes in the text
This book is produced to help people who are either doing a NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma. NEBOSH is the National Examination Board of Occupational Health and Safety. It is an organisation which was set up in 1979. Over 25,000 people take a NEBOSH qualification each year.
Their website is www.nebosh.org.uk.
I have used this book for my NEBOSH certificate examinations, its very useful but there are a few mistakes which needed to be altered. If you ... ...you which bits to change but if doing a course from home you may end up making mistakes.
This is the second edition which is being reviewed and this was published in 2006 but is the most up to date book so far.
It is quite a pricey tome for a paperback but worth every penny if it allows you to pass the exam. It is 432 pages long so you get alot of book for your money.
The book is organised into 19 sections, which are:-
1 Health and Safety Foundations.
