I studied through Coventry University at a franchise college. This college was smaller than Uni, so I did miss out on some of the social aspects, but around it was a positive experience.

I would say that the course is ideal for people not knowing exactly ... more

Why it's great to be a BABS student

Advantages: Greta course, great city, student discounts
Disadvantages: It seems to always rain in sheffield

I’m in my 2nd year of BA(Hons) Business Studies (affectionately known as BABS) at Sheffield Hallam uni, and I’m loving it here, Sheffield is a great city. Here’s a little low down on my course for those of you considering coming here, or just nosying at other courses. In the first year you need to get over 35% in the course work and exam, with an overall score of over 40% to pass the unit. Retakes are in August. The second year of this course is worth 25% of the degree. The third year is spent on placement in the paid job of your choice (obviously one relating to what you want to do as a career). BSc Business Studies

Advantages: Study when you can, no lectures to attend.
Disadvantages: The price of some of the courses.

also offers additional format materials and other resources for those who need it. They can also advise on financial help that is available for all students. In general, my personal opinion is that the Open University is a good option for most people, it gives a number of options for people to study business, as you can mix and match courses to suit yourself. I have found it useful and very practical, although some of the individual modules can be a touch pricey, depending on the route you wish to take. However, there are monthly payment options, and it still works out cheaper than an attending ...

Open University Business Studies Degrees

Advantages: Flexibility of hours and course choices
Disadvantages: Very theoretical

I am currently studying for a BA Hons in Business Studies with the OU, over 6 years. As you can read all the general opinions of OU study I will be specific to business studies. There are three compulsory modules, and three electives, giving you a range of final degrees such as business studies with law, economics etc. You can choose which order you take the modules, if you want a "year out", and change your mind as you go along. The modules are quite theoretical, with LOTS of reading, and many references to academic authors which can make your head spin, and don't seem to apply to the real business world at all. However - I have an EXCELLENT tutor, we have regular study groups and an online chat facility, I have made some good friends and I am thorougly enjoying the course. I would advise anyone signing up for this course ...
