I have a Border collie that is bordering an anorexic, he sniffs his food and turns his nose up at it, so it's very hard to try and get him to eat. He is very skinny, although Border collie's are meant to be quite skinny; he's a little too skinny so I searched our local shop for some food that would encourage him to eat his meals. Here, I came across Butcher's Tripe - which he absolutely loves.

The label around the can is primarily blue with a picture of a dog and its owner out on a walk. On the back of the label is all in information you could possibly want about the product such as the fact it is made with natural ingredients, no artificial colouring etc. There is also a feeding chart explaining which amount of food to feed depending on the size of your dog. There is also an ingredients list, along with an address and phone number to contact Butchers with any questions and comments.

Smell Personally I think this smells rank, not quite as bad as normal tripe but still pretty bad. For those of you that don't know, Tripe is actually made from the stomach of cattle such as cows and sheep so as you can imagine, the smell isn't particularly pleasant. Saying that though, this is my dog's food and he absolutely loves the smell, he always comes to the kitchen when I am making his dinner and sticks his nose high in the air to smell the food.
Taste Obviously I am not going to try this product myself, apart from being vegetarian, even if I wasn't, dog food does not appeal to me! I can only go by what my dog thinks of this product and I have to say, he loves it! It is the only time I have ever seen him lunge at his food and actually enjoy eating it. The only problem I have now is that he eats all the Butchers tripe mix and picks out his dry food! Dax has been on this food (along with his dry biscuits) for around 6 months now and his coat is lovely and glossy and he is beginning to put on weight and looks a lot healthier.
Range Butchers have a wide range of flavours available such as chicken, lamb, duck and a few more as well as this tripe mix.
Summary This is definitely a winner with my dog! This product can be used as part of a normal healthy diet (mixed with dry biscuits) and can also be used to encourage fussy dogs to eat their food. It has countless benefits such as making your dogs coat glossy, all natural ingredients and it contains all the vitamins and minerals you dog may need.
Advantages: Helpful for enticing a fussy dog to eat Disadvantages: Tins are heavy to carry home and the food itself is not pleasant smelling to us humans
Butchers tripe.
I have 3 Border collies that just adore food. They are generally easy to feed but Butchers canned meat is definitely their favorite. I put just a little about a tablespoon full in with their dried food for a treat, I also add a bit more if I have a dog who's perhaps a little off colour for any reason and is not eating so well. (This fortunately is not very often) I mainly buy it as one of my daughter's dogs who was underweight and ... ...is working.
Packaging
Butchers tripe comes in the usual standard can (same size as a baked bean can) and it comes complete with a ring pull top lid making the tin easy to open. The label around the can is quite attractive depicting a happy dog on the front with its owner out on a walk. On the back of the label is all the information about the product for example that it is made with natural ingredients and no artificial colouring etc. The information ...

Advantages: Dogs love it Disadvantages: Stinks to high heaven
...to love it. Step forward Butchers Tripe, made by Butchers Pet care, one of the most pungent tins of dog food available on the canine food shelves of shops and Supermarkets.
This whiffy concoction is available in 400, 800 and 1200 gram tins which are adorned with a blue Frisbee in flight being leapt at by a scruffy looking dog. The rest of the can is decorated with a blue sky background and a yellow band around the top stating which particular flavour ... ...to put a spoonful of Butchers tripe to my mouth. I fear I would retch if the cold, reeking meat sat on my tongue and assaulted my taste buds. So absolutely no taste test today, I’ll leave it to my dogs and try and interpret their reactions as best I can.
Lifting the lid of the can reveals a solid lump of meat similar in look and consistency to a coarse pate, and pale brown in colour. The meat is enveloped by a thin layer of clearish jelly where ...

Advantages: DOGS ACTUALLY ENJOY IT Disadvantages: MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE
...… but I will try: Butchers tinned tripe mix stinks like the miasma from a drain which has been blocked with decaying human body parts for the best part of a long, hot summer. Thus, it bears a similarity (I should imagine) to the ghastly fumes which greeted the nostrils of police officers who were investigating the morbid case of Dennis Nilsen.
Secondly, its appearance would be enough to set the alarm bells ringing for anyone sitting down for a meal, ... ...which concerns the impact of Butchers Tripe Mix on canine teeth. I've actually just chosen a random reply from the available list of options ... because the only thing I can say with any certainty is that none of my dogs' teeth have fallen out as a result of eating this stuff. PS: Many big thankyous to theediscerning for filling me in on the name of the mass-murderer mentioned. And also to Kirsty1 for providing the correct spelling of aforementioned ...

Advantages: My dog will eat it in fact loves it Disadvantages: none
...equivalent for my dog is Butchers tripe and water with an ice cube in it!
If you buy Butchers dog food now your dog will be very happy with you as they are doing it at special offer. At the moment you can get 50% free for your dog which on a big tin that is now 1170g for 74p in Tescos definately, and will only vary a few pence in other places. My dog loves this. You get it in chicken, turkey, chicken and tripe, original and some others all of which ... ...enough to eat! Butchers is made from natural ingredients and it does not contain GM ingredients which is very good to know as I would not give that intentionally to my family so why give it to my dog. It is ideal for all breeds and sizes and not any different for pedigree dogs It does give a feeding guide on the pack although if your pouch is like mine he tells you more the feeding guide than the label does. As it is a complimentary food for dogs ...

I got my dog 5 years ago as a puppy. She is a mongrel with a bit of black labrador in her but god knows what else!!!
I was feeding her dried dog food but this just wasnt practical as we found she was drinking alot more water than normal and this obviously led to a lot more toilet accidents when we were out.
As both me and my husband work (although he is a shift worker so us home part of the day) we decided to try canned dog food. We were buying tins of Ceaser at 86p a tin but it agreed with her and things were fine. That was until they stopped making that particular kind and size of tin. All i could purchase from the Ceaser range was little pallets of dog food which did not agree with her at all. We then tried Pedigree Chum, ButchersTripe, and Pal all to no avail and she was still having the doggie trots which couldnt have ...

Advantages: Excelent packaging and smells nice Disadvantages: Would be expensive to feed a large dog
I bought Pal freshpack dog food for the first time last week as my dog Major had a bad tummy. Normally I give him butcherstripe and he is fine with that but last week after being not well it was just too strong for him so I wanted to get him something that would be mild on his stomach.
Pal freshpack comes in 3 flavours from my local Safeway:-
Chunks in gravy with Chicken, Turkey, Beef or Lamb.
It is packaged in a silver foil pack similar to some foil drinks cartons. Printed on the pack, background blue, is a picture of a very happy bouncy dog with his ears up as if he is running towards his bowl of food. On the bottom right hand side is a picture of a bowl full of the dog food and the dog food actually does look like that. The meat is in little squares surrounded by a succulent gravy.
I used to think that it was handy ...
