I have a Border collie that is bordering an anorexic, he sniffs his food and turns his nose up at it, so it's very hard to try and get him to eat. He is very skinny, although Border collie's are meant to be quite skinny; he's a little too skinny so I searched our local shop for some food that would encourage him to eat his meals. Here, I came across Butcher's Tripe - which he absolutely loves.
Packaging Butchers tripe comes in a bog standard can (similar to a baked bean can) and it has a pull top lid making the tin very easy to open. The label around the can is primarily blue with a picture of a dog and its owner out on a walk. On the back of the label is all in information you could possibly want about the product such as the fact it is made with natural ingredients, no artificial colouring etc. There is also a feeding chart explaining which amount of food to feed depending on the size of your dog. There is also an ingredients list, along with an address and phone number to contact Butchers with any questions and comments.
Size Butchers Tripe comes in three different sized cans - 400 grams, 800 grams and 1200 grams. You can buy the can singularly or in multi packs which works out cheaper.
Price At Tesco, for a single 400 gram can, it will cost you 49p, for an 800 gram can, it will cost 99p and for a 1200 gram can it will cost £1.18. For multi packs, it will cost you £2.88 for 6 400 gram cans, and £5.48 for 6 800 grams cans.
Smell Personally I think this smells rank, not quite as bad as normal tripe but still pretty bad. For those of you that don't know, Tripe is actually made from the stomach of cattle such as cows and sheep so as you can imagine, the smell isn't particularly pleasant. Saying that though, this is my dog's food and he absolutely loves the smell, he always comes to the kitchen when I am making his dinner and sticks his nose high in the air to smell the food.
Taste Obviously I am not going to try this product myself, apart from being vegetarian, even if I wasn't, dog food does not appeal to me! I can only go by what my dog thinks of this product and I have to say, he loves it! It is the only time I have ever seen him lunge at his food and actually enjoy eating it. The only problem I have now is that he eats all the Butchers tripe mix and picks out his dry food! Dax has been on this food (along with his dry biscuits) for around 6 months now and his coat is lovely and glossy and he is beginning to put on weight and looks a lot healthier.
Range Butchers have a wide range of flavours available such as chicken, lamb, duck and a few more as well as this tripe mix.
Summary This is definitely a winner with my dog! This product can be used as part of a normal healthy diet (mixed with dry biscuits) and can also be used to encourage fussy dogs to eat their food. It has countless benefits such as making your dogs coat glossy, all natural ingredients and it contains all the vitamins and minerals you dog may need.

Well my collie likes Iams
I had he same problem of him turning his nose up at all his food and Iams is not as expensive as you think, since you feed your dog less food than cheaper dried foods. A 15kg bag lasts nearly 2 months and at £19.75 a bag from trago mills in newton abbot 33p a day for a 24kg collie is cheap as chips

You are supposed to tell us what it tastes like Dayle - verty good with onion so I'm told.......OH! It's for the dog! Sorry. Richard.
Advantages: Helpful for enticing a fussy dog to eat Disadvantages: Tins are heavy to carry home and the food itself is not pleasant smelling to us humans
