I have 3 Border collies that just adore food. They are generally easy to feed but Butchers canned meat is definitely their favorite. I put just a little about a tablespoon full in with their dried food for a treat, I also add a bit more if I have a dog who's perhaps a little off colour for any reason and is not eating so well. (This fortunately is not very often) I mainly buy it as one of my daughter's dogs who was underweight and very finicky about any food at all is with me while she is working.
Packaging Butchers tripe comes in the usual standard can (same size as a baked bean can) and it comes complete with a ring pull top lid making the tin easy to open. The label around the can is quite attractive depicting a happy dog on the front with its owner out on a walk. On the back of the label is all the information about the product for example that it is made with natural ingredients and no artificial colouring etc. The information is completed by an illustration of a feeding chart explaining the amount of food to feed depending on the size of your dog. For those interested there is also an ingredients list, with an address and telephone number to contact the manufactors with any questions or comments.
Size Butchers Tripe comes in three different sized cans - 400 grams, 800 grams and 1200 grams. You can buy the can singularly or in multi packs which works out cheaper. I usually buy it a case at a time.
Price At Tesco, for a single 400 gram can, it will cost you 49p, for an 800 gram can, it will cost 99p and for a 1200 gram can it will cost £1.18. For multi packs, it will cost you £2.88 for 6 400 gram cans, and £5.48 for 6 800 grams cans.
Smell Personally I think this is the sort of smell which will entice even the fussiest dog to eat. It doesn't do much for me but as I am vegetarian so it's no wonder! If you have ever looked at real tripe in a butchers window you would never eat again although tripe and onions is supposed to be yummy UGH!!!!!!!!
Taste Being a pet food and vegetarian there is no way on gods earth I would EVER try this! All I can say is my dogs are there as soon as they hear me pop open the can. So I guess it must have something going for it.
Range Butchers brand has a wide range of flavours available such as ,lamb, rice & peas, chicken, ham & rice and beef, rice & carrots to name but a few of the varieties on offer.
Summary This canned food is definitely on the menu with all my dogs! This food can be used as part of a normal healthy diet (mixed with biscuits) and like I mentioned can also be used to encourage fussy dogs to eat. It has many benefits such as helping to make your dogs nice and shiny, complete with all natural ingredients containing all the vitamins and minerals your dog may need.
Reccomended: Yes definitely to a dog that's a poor eater.
