I have the home care 300 package which is insurance for the boiler, plumbing and drains. at £20 somthing a month.
for 3 years i have paid this and never needed to call them untill recently.... I have (and still have) a blocked toilet so called British Gas who sent an engineer out that afternoon, brilliant. After spending a few minutes in the bathroom told me that as the suite is new im not covered with my insurance but bless him he could do it for me for £100. Like a fool i belived him and decided to get in contact with the person who installed it. Before I did that my partner looked at the terms and conditions on line, nothing about this under 1 year thing. so we called BG who also had never heared of this and agreed to send out someone the following day.... We waited and waited, no one came, 7pm we called BG who told us someone was comming as we are a high priority they could come at any time, as you guessed they didnt and again back on the phone, they apologised for their lies (well THEY didnt admit they were lies) and told us that DYNO ROD (the firm BG use for plumbing and things) are refusing to come out because the toilet had been fitted incorrectly!! (you got to give it to them they actually took time to read the terms and conditions this time to find some excuse they could use!)
We spoke to the pumber who checked the fitting and confirmed there is nothing wrong, so again we called British Gas we went through the speil again, The call taker apologised, again and agreeed to call DYNO ROD, andwe will have a call back. well obviously we didn't have a call back and again after a few days called them (we now have their number on speed dial) again told us " they wont come out the toilet not fiited correctly" we explained the plumber has checked it and can they tell us how its not fitted correctly. you got to laugh we get offered another call back yey. thats right, we had nothing, we tried calling dyno rod ourselves who told us they dont even cover our area and we have to speak to british gas about any problems. so back to BG again relaying the story trying hard not to sound like a robot who told us their complaints team will call us... the jokers that they are we still didnt get a call, we called another drainage company who told us exactly what the problem was, where the blockage is, nothing wrong with the toilet or the fittings. it would cost around £200 to repair, (so this is the real reason dynorod wont do it!! it involves work) back on to BG, explained everything. and HA HA we have to wait for a call. so they are going to call in 48 hours, yea right!!! so still stuck with a blocked toilet. the only one in the house, its been 3 weeks now so you can imagine the ongoing inconvenience! Really dont know what to do now. apart from warn others

Your problem with these Cowboys mirrors mine exactly. Mine is with the mains riser and after4 years paying £55 a year they tell me I'm not covered for risers, but it's perfectly clear on their schematic that I am. A bone fide plumber told me that if the problem is too difficult or they are too inept a tradesman, these are the excuse they make

Sorry about your difficulty with your loo... hope it's sorted soon. When this is moved, try to add more info such as the exact price you pay per month. Currently having difficulties re our Homecare 200 as we have major problems with our boiler and after a new pump, thermostats etc, they've discovered it was plumbed in back to front so trying to get the guy who fitted it, only problem is it was purchased by previous owners!!! I think it really needs to be posted under the Home Insurance section of the Finance category.
