I only wanted to buy a car!

Advantages: Choice, worth it in the end, you can save lots of money
Disadvantages: Time consuming, challanging

Buying a new car should a pleasurable experience, but for many it can be stressful & intimidating.

There is something special about owning a new car, choosing something that you have always wanted & getting that new car feeling, that new car smell (albeit the smell of plastic) & driving a car no one has driven before. That is except for the factory workers, test drivers, transporter drivers, garage mechanics & sometimes the handy man ...
...can be an expensive mistake buying something on impulse that you later find out is totally unsuitable.
First up is to decide what you want in terms of type of vehicle, you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who buy a car only to find it won’t accommodate the entire family or doesn’t fit in their garage.

Efficiency

Its not all about the deal.

Advantages: nothing like driving a car from new, pride in ownership
Disadvantages: depreciation, once you have new, you have buy new again

...to give some advice on buying a brand new car. When you consider it is the highest capital outlay, except of course buying your own home, buying a car should not be entered into lightly. We all have our preconceptions about what make and model will do for us, be it social standing or just doing a job getting us from A to B. I think most people form an attachment to Brands as well; it can say something about you as a person, your wealth, your lifestyle, ...
...if you are thinking of buying from a car Broker/ Importer or direct from the manufacturer go into a dealer and "touch the car". Walk around, look at the car, speak to a salesperson and get a test drive. Try to visit on a week day; you'll be amazed by the dedication of the salesperson. If you go on a weekend that same salesperson, although interested will appraise is customers and spend time with the more likely sale, and leave the "still at the ...

Diesel Buyers Beware!

Advantages: Cleaner emissions
Disadvantages: Expensive upkeep

...If you are considering buying a new car in the near future, I have thought of some points to consider (all on my own!): Diesels are cheaper to run and (generally) more reliable, but if you have to run your car every x amount of miles that you do "regular, everyday driving" how much extra does this cost you in fuel per month? If you are going to have to replace a rather expensive, temperamental, and necessary piece of the car often, due to the filter ...
...a "more unreliable" petrol engine is the way forward. Hope this has helped, I was completely unaware of this new legislation and bit of car (unsurprisingly) but the AA were very surprised that either Snarf or I knew it existed and how to try and clear it - information is not widely available and it seems that even the dealership's are unaware of the ramifications of this part, due to the manufacturers not telling people the whole story. The last rites of a great British tradition

Advantages: It used to have respected name. You could buy the whole company!
Disadvantages: Huge debts, clapped out models, Sh***y Rover. Chinese Mafia.

...I will get to the buying a new car subject I promise........ How many of you are surprised that MG Rover actually limped along this far? Any of us who have visited Longbridge or even a local dealer saw the writing on the wall years ago. Rover has traded for years on its name, an image whipped up on a 1950's and 60's image of an England that never really existed, mainly consisting of ultra conservative types, bank managers and accountants. MG? ...
...with these ancient designs then buying a new 25 (MG ZR) or 45 (MG ZS) at a massive discount - for me to be tempted we would be looking at around half list price here - then go ahead bag a bargain. HOWEVER! Remember at all times that in a couple of years time the car will be worth nothing at all. How about taking a chance on a wonderful V8 75 (automatic) or the more exciting manual gearbox MG ZT? Forget it! Romantic notions of it being a collectors ...

I wish I could afford buying one every week...

Advantages: What else ? Brand new !
Disadvantages: Harassing dealers, high prices and insurance premiums

...if I do not plan buying a new car, I visit a dealer regularly and at least get an insight to a new model or sniff that most wonderful fragrance in the world. This basically is why I have quite good experience on this subject. (Well I also bought a number of cars brand new too -12- since I do not ever buy second hand.) I would suggest that : * Do not listen to the grinning and chattering dude too much. Just tell him that you are going to browse ...
...5% off when I was buying my Hyundai H-1 Starex SVX. At the end of the day, do not just go for the looks, the wonderful smell, the ever happy feeling and opportunity to brag to your friends and neighbours by having a new car. Don' t get tempted. Don't forget this is your biggest investment after a house. Decide on a Renault Megane II RXT, even if you are dying for a Subaru Impreza GLX AWD if the Renault suits you better. You may be very very sorry ...

Motoring has gone mental

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: stress, rising prices, danger, stupidity

As someone learning to drive (in fact taking my test next week!) I find that everything to do with driving has gone mental. Firstly there's the cost of driving - cars and fuel. Tony Blair says he can't take 2p of fuel prices, but then he dishes out £47m to the hopeless dome, and while I agree that something should be done to help the environment, fuel tax isn't working because people are still on the road. Further, with a crumbling health service ...
...for ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Secondly, examiners actually fail you for going too slow! There are all these adverts on the tv and radio about killing your speed, and then my friend gets failed for doing 55mph in a 60mph zone!! On top of this you also get failed for hesitating, however minor, so it seems to me that all the cautious safe drivers are failing, while the speed merchants are passing - and they wonder why there are so many ...

Thought I was buying a NEW CAR not a demo model !

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: ????

My partner and I ordered a New Clio with Arnold Clark at the beginning of July. The sales people are very pushy and we should have walked away before signing the contract and found another Renault Dealer at that point ........ ! I will learn from my mistakes. They tried to push us into buying a second-hand car, but I stood my round and ordered a new one in the new pistachio colour, they continued to try and push us away from buying the new car in the specific colour as there would be a long wait ....... but we could have another colour sooner, how convenient for them this would have been. Anyway as soon as we signed the contract the sales man was off looking for his next victim leaving us sat their gob smacked at how things had changed since we first walked in when they could not do enough for us. They gave us an estimated delivery ...

Absolutely fabulous place to buy a new car

Advantages: Very, very cheap cars, and excellent service.
Disadvantages: In the open air, not easy to spot a specific model.

I have just bought a new car from Motorpoint at Derby. The price of the vehicle, and Motorpoint's service were both fantastic! If you want to buy a new car, this is THE place to go! Motorpoint now have two sites. Derby and Burnley. Their price lists are available in most of the free car sales magazines in supermarkets and petrol stations, and in the Telegraph on Saturdays. They also have a web site (www.motorpoint.co.uk) where current stocks are detailed. The site at Derby is enormous (just off the A52 East of the City centre). Over 2000 cars are on show on the site. Parking for your own car is a bit restricted, and the cars are in random positions in the show area, so locating any specific model is not easy! Most of the cars are in the open, so if you visit the site when it's rainind, do take a brolly! The range ...

Easy Way to Buy A New Car

Advantages: Free servicing, small deposit, excellent city car
Disadvantages: Arranging your own insurance for courtesy cars

After much hunting around used car dealers and enquiries about car loans, I spotted an ad in the paper advertising the new Daewoo Matiz and the excellent deals that Daewoo offer. So, my husband and I went along to our nearest outlet and found the staff to be extremely helpful. We were taken for a test drive in the Matiz, and once we started to look at the prices of the Lanos, we asked to test drive it too. It only took us 24 hours to make up our minds to buy one, and we went back and placed our order the next day. Deposits can be as little or as much as you want, ours was only £700, and we're paying a monthly sum for 3 years and then either continuing with the balance, paying off a lump sum or handing the car back and starting with a brand new one again. Each car comes with free servicing and courtesy cards, AA membership for 3 ...
