CEX, for those who don't know, is basically a pawn shop for electronic goods and accessories similar to Cash Converters. As I, like most people, tend to need more money than I get given. So, to have a shop pay you for reasonable prices for your expendable goods is a really useful utility.

The positive with CEX tends to be the prices they will pay for your second hand goods, possibly the best on the high street. On the converse, the downside is that many of the staff can be rude or workshy and the stores, a little untidy and unorganised. They have a sketchy returns policy. Apparently, CEX require you leave certain items overnight for 'testing'. For instance the 80GB ipod my brother and I attempted to sell them not so long ago. After a quick flash of the membership and a bit of computery stuff, I was given a receipt and advised to come back tomorrow. Not ideal, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
The next day I returned and had to brave the most nightmareish conditions. The shop was sweltering and had a queue of about thirty people. Seven staff and six tills, but two people were working, two were just standing about, one was playing on a computer and the others just talking to some friends at the end of the desk. When we questioned them it resulted in a staring contest between ourselves and various employees. Onorthodox customer service to say the least.
Smugly, one of the staff informed me that the link cable was broken. The brand new link cable which was fine the day before. I assumed it was just a problem with the cable and went home to get a different one. On the way I checked in the box and found the cable, frayed and smashed. When I returned and questioned this I was told they 'are professionals' and 'would never do that.'
I'd couldn't see one professional, just seven scruffy, stuck-up students. I am still pretty infuriated as I write this. Still, I will not let that experience tarnish my review.
The process of selling is very straightforward when it comes to DVDs and Games and prices are fair. Simple swap. Cash for Goods. Store credit can be obtained to a higher value than if you were to recieve cash. This service I have always found very effective.
I have plenty of second hand experiences of broken or damaged goods being bought from there and may also have been able to sell a few questionable items too.

They also do not offer the 'buy-back' feature some other shops do. This is where you may repurchase the item you sold within an agreed time period for a small fee extra. Suffice to say, I went to Cash Converters and wil be buying the ipod back soon.
CEX, they're better than most for DVDs and Games but be careful with your important equipment. Fair prices, but the occassional 'quality' issue.
Advantages: Cheap goods, wide range of choice in most stores, friendly staff Disadvantages: Awful returns policy, bad head office,
Cex was founded in 1992, with a unique business selling model of buy and sell, believing that everyones stuff has a value that can be unlocked. Its a recycling business that buys and sells peoples games, dvd's, consumer eletronics, computers and phones. They have several stores throughout the UK so where ever you live there shouldnt be one far away. Brighton Bromley Croydon Harrow Hemel Hempstead Hounslow Kingston London (Games) London (PC) Tunbridge ... ...I am giving CEX 4 stars for the effort the majority of staff put in and their down to earth friendlyness. This shop is unique so expect some unique characters! But dont expect a perfect shelf stacked haven, and expect anything varying from store to store!
You will pick up a bargain, but if your the kind of person that likes a valid guarantee with their purchase on expensive goods, look elsewhere as you never know what you will deal with once you ...

Advantages: great selection, dvd prices are good Disadvantages: exploits product demand, staff are not fantastic
...used something or other electronical, CeX is probably going to have it.
Now we come to the debatable bit. The price. I personally have worked in GAME, which is just down the road from the CeX in Swindon. Now, when a new game is released - say Mario Kart - the demand sky rockets, GAME sells out quickly and of course the consumers are sent elsewhere. This is where CeX make most of their money - selling new items at WELL above their recommended price.
... ...well as Wii Sports. CeX on the other hand were selling the console as solus (ie on it's own) for roughly £180 at christmas - you of course have to buy the extra bits at further cost (bear in mind these are USED as well). Personally i think that'd daylight robbery and they should be shot for doing it. It's exploitation of consumers who simply don't have the time to run down to stores every day to check whether the console is in stock at the cheaper ...

...take it without hesitation. cex have been known to sell some things that dont work, like a lot of there dvds dont work because they havent checked them, but if this is the case they will refund straight away. you can also use this against them, cex have bought a few questionable items off me before if you go into cex at busy times li9ke saturday midday, then the queue will be huge, and you will be in it for about 20 minutes, and its annoying because ... ...and most people buying in cex are always trading something in, which means it takes even longer, but if you go in on a sunday morning and sometimes saturday mornings the shop is empty and you wont have to queue at all. another good thing about cex is that they have a website and you can check their stock in the stores close to you, all just buy what you want on the website, and they now accept paypal which means no cards needed! now im going to tell ...

Advantages: Great trade in prices Disadvantages: Staff can be terrible
...place. You see CEX give very good trade in prices on anything from a Nintendo DS game, to a PSP console, a DVD box set to a mobile phone. They also give cash which as a rule is around 20% less than what you are offered as trade in price. It's all well and good getting a credit note in exchange for your traded item's but then the problem starts. CEX is expensive. They have to be, they couldn't trade in a game for £9 and then sell it for £10, they ... ...find it hard to see where the revenue comes from. Standing in a queue just last week of around 10 people in the store, I guess maybe 8 of them where trading in something for something new, 1 lady had a faulty item and another had a £2 DVD and a £10 note in his hand. Most of the new release games they sell are around the same price you can buy them for brand new at a supermarket or online. The consoles sometimes are even more expensive than brand ...
