Performance It transfers at a very fast rate which in practise turned out to be surprisingly fast. Access time was very quick, so within the hour i had backed up and transferred my files!. I have had no trouble streaming games and movies from my hard disk, with access to files within the disk is as instant as a normal hard disk drive. It can be standing upright. 500 GB for this amount of money is a bargain.... Read review

...the drive to use it. Maybe if I would of installed the accompanying software it would of done this process automatically on first connection. The only thing you may notice at first is that it states that the amount of space on the drive available is only 233GB rather than the 250GB. There is nothing wrong here it just some computer mathematical jiggerery-pokerery - something to do with there being 1024MB to a GB rather than 1000 etc Copying files to and from the drive is fast, but if your moving a lot of data it can take sometime compared to moving across internal drives. The only drawbacks to the device is that it does emit a bit of a hum/drone when on - but this isn't very noticeable (I only noticed when I turned it off). It does get a little warm on use too, but I guess that is what the aluminium case is for - to disperse the heat... Read review

...To start this drive looks good and feels heavy which gives an immediate impression of sound quality. There is an instruction manual on provided disc. Its 190 x 110 x 35 mm in size, so small enough to tuck away out of sight, although it's best to give adequate ventilation whilst running as it's passively cooled (no fan - near silent). If using as a backup device you will need to install Silverlining 98 from the mentioned disc, or use your own software. You can drag and drop onto the drive through Windows/Linux/Mac as it's seen as just another drive, so backups can be done without software (remember that this is not incremental though). If your computer allows boot from USB (check bios settings) you can use this device to boot from. I've successfully managed to boot Linux from it through a preinstalled Windows laptop, and it runs...
