Upon initial connection, the ABSplus BounceBack Professional software makes a complete backup of all files, applications, and operating system on your laptop to the ABSplus drive. This creates a bootable ABSplus drive. Each time the unit is plugged in, the ABSplus automatically scans your source drive and copies only those files that have been changed or newly created since the last backup was performed. The ABSplus backup solution provides easy recovery from even the worst data catastrophes.

I backed up 80gb onto this drive and it took all night, due to being a 5,400 rpm i guess. Must have taken around ten hours.
Software side.
The software allows backups of folders, so you can backup the whole hard drive as folder C: for example or just my documents. Press the button on the front of the drive and the software pops up. Select your folders to backup and press backup. Wait a while and it will say backup complete.
You cannot see your individual files. All you get is the option to restore the backup you did earlier as one big lump. Very restricting. When you do restore it will take as long as the backup took in the first place. For my 80gbbackup this means i have to wait about 20 hours to do a backup and then restore it again...

...them all if you buy this brand by labelling them all differently, such as 'backup drive 1', 'digital camera photos backup drive' or whatever.
Its easy enough to move files, using the usual copy paste or drag and drop functions.
One thing to be aware of, is that if your running either Windows 2000 or Windows XP, it may be worth considering reformatting your drive to the NTFS file system. This provides several advantages, mainly support for very large files. The user guide/manual provided with the drive goes into alot more information about this, if your interested. Also the drive will display a drive capacity thats slightly less than the capacity stated on the box. I believe this is to do with the file system used, it shows up on 'My Computer' claiming that it has a total amount of about 112GB memory. The user guide again explains why...

This size is perfect for a family with modist data needs or a single person.
The drive accepts both USB2.0 / 1.0 and also has two seprate Firewire ports which apparently can be connected to two seprate machines at the same time (the USB & Firewire combination is disalowed.)
The PSU is simular to a small laptop supply and connects via a speicalized connecter.
The access times when directly connected to a computer under USB2.0 (havn't tryed Firewire yet, also the speeds are simulary matched) are very responsive and don't leave the consumer waiting at all.
Wether this device be for expanding data volume or for mobile data transfer this device also alows the use of Backup utility programs so that with the insertion of a floppy disk the user is able to re build they computer from scratch in the event that anything go wrong.
