AMD Phenom 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor
Review of AMD Phenom X4 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor by shivendu

Advantages: quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...for its subpar performance. Unless AMD drops prices more aggressively, it looks like Intel will maintain its grasp on the CPU market for the foreseeable future. For raw performance, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips have lingered behind their Intel Core 2 Duo counterparts all year. Only aggressive pricing from AMD kept its old dual-core CPUs in systems and on store shelves. According to our testing, AMD will have to work similar magic with its new quad-core ...
...you can find a prebuilt PC that uses a Phenom 9500 for significantly less than a similar desktop with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, go for it. But unless you can find it for an exceptional price, we advise against the Phenom right now, because its performance simply isn't there. ... Read review

Budget gaming chip with overclocking potential
Review of AMD Opteron 146 / 2 GHz processor by ladforce

Advantages: Price, Performance
Disadvantages: Single Core

This chip is from AMD's last generation architecture using the 939 socket. Due to the new AM2 architecture being released, socket 939 chips have plummeted in price as they are no longer cutting edge. This means there are bargains to be had and this opteron is one of those chips. Around 60 pounds buys you a single core 2Ghz processor which is nothing special. What you are not told is these chips actually use server grade silicon and have 1Mb level ...
...level 2 cache found in the desktop equivalent. This, in theory, should allow the chip to be overclocked more heavily and therefore perform much better. At stock the chip is quick and performs well in games. However, this chip is not bought to run at stock its bought to be heavily overclocked. Loading up the chip into my pc, which uses swiftech watercooling, I proceded to overclock the chip as much as possible on stock volts. This yielded a clock ... Read review

Top Range Dual Core Processor
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 / 2.13 GHz processor by TheTechGuy0

Advantages: Good clock speed, good video decoding and overall reliabilty
Disadvantages: Only 2 MB cache

The Core 2 Duo e6400 has many good features: It uses a 1066 MHZ FSB (front side bus) for a fast link on the motherboard. It 2 cores running at 2.13 GHZ The Processor is very EASY to overclock; just be careful. It is energy effecient and runs cool, unless you over clock Not as good features: 2 MB cache low compared to others in the range I found this processor to be excellent; it was extremely fast. With this processor there is no worry of ... Read review

Great, fast, cheap
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 / 2.4 GHz processor by mop591

Advantages: fast
Disadvantages: hard to think of one

This intel dual core processor with 2.4Ghz speed (total speed of 4.8Ghz) with a 2MB Cache can handle an awful lot of demanding programs runnning at once and for the amazingly low price its a very good processor. This processor is also compatable with 64 bit computing. It has an LGA775 Socket which is compatable with most motherboards (up to you to check these things) if you are looking to upgrade or build your own pc. If you are looking to buy a ... Read review
