Fantastic chip, even better when overclocked
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / 3 GHz processor by piloteer81

Advantages: Cheap, fast and cool
Disadvantages: it's not a quad core, £130 may be too much for some

It took a while for Intel to wake up and smell the prices of AMD shares recently (AMD being Intel's main competitor). After years of AMD taking bite after bite out of Intel's market share with innovative, efficient, fast and affordable processors, Intel finally did something about it and released the Core 2 processor. The dual and quad core CPU's completely blew AMD away and AMD still haven't caught up two years later. The Intel Core 2 E8400 is the ...
...advantage of quad cores and Intel has released it's next generation architecture called Nehalem, it's well worth saving your money - with the E8400 costing less than £130, it's value for money, especially if you're overclocking, is undeniable. Whether you're buying a new system with an E8400 in it or upgrading your existing system, the E8400 should be top of your list. ... Read review

Powerful and efficient
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 / 3 GHz processor by ClockworkUniverse42

Advantages: Fast, good overclocking potential; the best for games (and virtually all other applications)
Disadvantages: Runs fairly warm, but nothing terrible

As a gamer, I needed the best processor out there. Searching around, the only real debate in this price range was whether to go for the E6850, a dual core CPU, or the Q6600, a quad core at a lower clock. After looking at many different benchmarks and reviews, the answer was clear - the higher clocked part (the E6850) was a more power processor, giving better performance in games, and better performance in most ofther software applications as well. ...
...6 months ago when I bought this product; current applications do not need 4 cores to run quickly, especially games. If I was particularly interested in video editing, then I may have gone for a quad-core, but for my purposes it wasn't nescessary. Not only that, but I have used video editing software on this, and it will render incredibly quickly - I was blown away. So, the upshot is - what do you need to use your computer for? A few specialised ... Read review

Taking a chance on my pc.
Review of Intel Pentium D 945 / 3.4 GHz processor by davy246

Advantages: Very fast with dual core great for games and editing videos or images
Disadvantages: The fan supplied is quite loud but you can change it.

...not planning on buying an Intel one or a cpu but I am glad I did. The reason I did so was because he said it was one of the best out. So I had my dual core CPU after about a week of finding the other parts i started to install windows to my horror the hard drive I bought off eBay started to make a strange noise. it had to be sent to Holland for repair but as soon as I got it back and installed xp windows it worked very fast and reliably and I have ...
...am glad I stuck with Intel instead of amd I use my computer for editing videos and playing games which need lots of memory. I am glad that I did not research this and took a chance because it paid off. The only real problem is the Intel fan makes allot of noise so I will be changing it soon. I do not know how easy or hard it was to install because when if bought it he said he would put the two parts together. The motherboard cost less than the CPU ... Read review

D 925
Review of Intel Pentium D 925 / 3 GHz processor by Shah_H

Advantages: Cheap, Fast.
Disadvantages: Heat, Old Generation

...had a good experience with Intel and once more I enjoyed their offering. This processor is a decent performer running at 3 GHz. It can fit in any motherboard having LGA775 socket. It is based on 65 nm manufacturing technology. And for sure it is dual core! Architecture Features: Enhanced SpeedStep technology, streaming SIMD extensions 2, streaming SIMD extensions 3, Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology, Execute Disable Bit capability This processor ...
...2 Duo line of processors. So, these days they are extremely affordable. It also comes with a good 3 years warranty. If you have got some money go for Intel Core 2 Duo family of processors. Although good, it is not better than Core 2 duo's in any respect. ... Read review

pentium d 935. extreamly good and very cheap
Review of Intel Pentium D 935 / 3.2 GHz processor by kirkyjj

Advantages: very fast, capable processor, very cheap
Disadvantages: faster fan needed for overclocking

This is an extremely capable mid range processor. If you are looking to upgrade your computer to a very good standard without having to pay hundreds of pounds then this is the processor for you. I have had this processor for just over a week now and it has proved to be very good. The 3.20 GHz clock speed is extremely fast and is capable of running most applications to a very good speed. Also the fact that it is dual core has really impressed me. ...
...2x2mb cache on this which is very good, you would get better with the £300+ processors but for this price it is very good. I have this set up with an as rock motherboard and 1 GB of ddr2 667 MHz memory. This runs very well and is very smooth for intensive applications such as video editing. This processor is a socket 775 one which you need to be careful of when buying your motherboard. Another question that I had before it came was the heat sink ... Read review
