AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by
Azraeldarcon
Advantages: Great multitasking speed and reliability
Disadvantages: Minimal overheating
...cool in comparison to other AMD processors I have had in the past, and with a little research can be overclocked significantly with little heat increase. I currently use a small liquid cooling system on the processor and have had great success with it. As far as for gaming, there are other processors out there that would be better for performance, but you are going to PAY!!! For the price, this is probably just about the best Dual Core processor ... ...such as myself. Easy to install and maintain. Now for the bad: I have noticed in SOME (very few) games that overheating DOES occur, however this is only during intense moments that truly pull maximum system resources (i.e. epic battles involving many players [if online] or many units battling in the same area [for offline RTS type]). These instances were RARE and can normally be solved by turning game settings down.
Overall, I think it is a great ...

Superb Upgrade, Well Worth the Money
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ / 2 GHz processor by
ratbot
Advantages: Speed, Value for Money
Disadvantages: Stock Cooler
Being an AMD fan boy may not help with the decision of the upgrade. But for the price of the processor you will not be disappointed. I had a 3000+ 64Bit AMD I found it to be a pretty quick with music and videos. However I noticed problems with speed when loading games and video editing. Which is why I decided to upgrade to the AMD 64 Athlon X2 2600+. The 3600+ clocks at 2.0 GHz each, this allows the user to assign programmes with either processor ... ...to a certain processor.
AMD have also brought out two drivers which can fix problems with games which are not developed to support dual cores. One of the games called soldiers does not support two processors and is knows to BSOD (Blue Screen of death) and also crashes the system. Another update is to allow programmes to switch between the processors or use both if that process is under stress. The new games on the market are now being developed ...

Good performer at low price
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ / 2 GHz processor by
nquinnathome1
Advantages: Cheap, good performance, rock solid stability, for 939 (older) AMD boards
Disadvantages: Cast aside by newer processors
This particular X2 3800+ is for socket 939 motherboards, which are now being replaced by the newer AM2 boards available. However, if you want a good processor upgrade without having to replace your motherboard as well, this processor is a great choice.
When I purchased it a few months back it was around the £80 mark but the price is constantly dropping; a look now shows you can pick one up for just under £50, maybe more if you shop around. Day-to-day ... ...but for heavy-duty tasks such as gaming or intensive computing it can\'t beat the newer Intel Core 2 Duo processors now available. That said, it\'s still superb as a processor if you intend to use it for gaming; I\'ve thrown a few newish games at it including Command and Conquer 3 and Bioshock and it can handle them no problem at all at stock speeds.
The X2 3800+ is also a pretty good overclocker; it stocks at 2Ghz with a 10x multiplier, but you ...

Excellent value cpu
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by
0602409
Advantages: Good for vista, fast for every day needs
Disadvantages: Not as overclockable as core 2 duos
I bought this back two years ago for around £130, back then it was a monster cpu but obviously today, people will say this is no core 2 duo. However this still does hold its place in the market due to the price segment of around £45 now, which is excellent value for money. For someone spending this much on a cpu, its likely they are after a budget dual core system, but any dual core cpu will be fast enough for vista as long as you equip it with at ... ...had when i first got vista and it never slowed down, and was generally quicker on my setup than XP was. This is because once you go past a certain amount of power in your setup, XP fails to scale that well, but vista being heavy weighted is no good for a powerless setup but is excellent at scaling in speed with faster setups. i found that with this CPU and 1.5gb, you would deffinatly benefit from upgrading to vista from xp (just like i did). Even ...
