A GOOD ALL ROUNDER
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by
bfgboy
Advantages: Price,ease of instalation
Disadvantages: the cache, the speed
AMD have had some bad press over the years and this 4200 processor does not help them. With only a poor 1 mb cache it gets tasks dont but you wont find it doing them in record time. I also find amd products are overclockable but confusing to do. But on the value for money side you cant really go wrong because the price is a lot lower than an intel but unfortunately this is because the intel processor is that bit better. I would also say not to buy ...

More Power
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3200+ / 2 GHz processor by
VWCode
Advantages: Great overclocking Facilities
Disadvantages: Fiddly to install, recommend a pro
I brought this processor approximately 2months ago as an upgrade from my old processsor.
I found that for the money it was a tremendous upgrade, and that it was just right for a computer with graphic design capabilities,
The processor runs without any hesitation or lag, it has plenty of overclocking facilities if you wish to push more power out of your mahcine, which i decided not to, but as a test i did overclock it to 3500 which out any problems, ...

Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: A bit outdated
...xp 64 bit version and all the new vista version in 64 but. The 64 bit processing ability will allow you to perform tasks alot quicker. This is an excellent cpu but i might be usefull to consider the AMD 64 4000 processor because it has an extra 200 Mhz. ...

Good performer at low price
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ / 2 GHz processor by
nquinnathome1
Advantages: Cheap, good performance, rock solid stability, for 939 (older) AMD boards
Disadvantages: Cast aside by newer processors
This particular X2 3800+ is for socket 939 motherboards, which are now being replaced by the newer AM2 boards available. However, if you want a good processor upgrade without having to replace your motherboard as well, this processor is a great choice.
When I purchased it a few months back it was around the £80 mark but the price is constantly dropping; a look now shows you can pick one up for just under £50, maybe more if you shop around. Day-to-day ... ...but for heavy-duty tasks such as gaming or intensive computing it can\'t beat the newer Intel Core 2 Duo processors now available. That said, it\'s still superb as a processor if you intend to use it for gaming; I\'ve thrown a few newish games at it including Command and Conquer 3 and Bioshock and it can handle them no problem at all at stock speeds.
The X2 3800+ is also a pretty good overclocker; it stocks at 2Ghz with a 10x multiplier, but you ...

Budget gaming chip with overclocking potential
Review of AMD Opteron 146 / 2 GHz processor by
ladforce
Advantages: Price, Performance
Disadvantages: Single Core
This chip is from AMD's last generation architecture using the 939 socket. Due to the new AM2 architecture being released, socket 939 chips have plummeted in price as they are no longer cutting edge. This means there are bargains to be had and this opteron is one of those chips. Around 60 pounds buys you a single core 2Ghz processor which is nothing special. What you are not told is these chips actually use server grade silicon and have 1Mb level ... ...level 2 cache found in the desktop equivalent. This, in theory, should allow the chip to be overclocked more heavily and therefore perform much better. At stock the chip is quick and performs well in games. However, this chip is not bought to run at stock its bought to be heavily overclocked. Loading up the chip into my pc, which uses swiftech watercooling, I proceded to overclock the chip as much as possible on stock volts. This yielded a clock ...
