Disadvantages: Cast aside by newer processors

This particular X2 3800+ is for socket 939 motherboards, which are now being replaced by the newer AM2 boards available. However, if you want a good processor upgrade without having to replace your motherboard as well, this processor is a great choice. When I purchased it a few months back it was around the £80 mark but the price is constantly dropping; a look now shows you can pick one up for just under £50, maybe more if you shop around. I've had my mine for about 9 months now and I think its great, it will run any program with any problems. Now I haven't personaly overclock mine, but I have read that it is possible to overclock it to 2.6GHz, which is pretty good if you ask me, but I dont recommed it unless you know what your doing, because if your not careful you could ruin it completely and thats going to annoy anyone. A truely great processor of its time. If you still have a socket 939 motherboard and feel you want a bit more power before forking out hundreds of pounds for a new system then I definately recommend this. The FX-55 is a good overclocker, I have it with a DFI Lanparty nf4 SLi-DR Expert and have it comfortable running at 2.9Ghz with the fan it came with, and have had it up to 3.4Ghz with a vapour phase change cooling kit.
