Taxan Monitor - The Death Star Monitor
Advantages: Robust and Solid Disadvantages: Heavy
Taxan Ergovision Monitor 735 TCO99
Introduction
The oldest looking piece of kit I use at work is this monitor. Taxan is part of a Japanese electronic company who have been around since 1981 and have been a leading producer of monitors. This CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor works by basically firing electron beams through a vacuum at a screen to produce a picture. This picture is what we see when we look at a monitor.

• Manoverable Base
• Weighs 20Kg
Personal Experience
This monitor is a bit old school for me, it weighs as much as a death star if your trying to move it and nearly takes up as much room as one to. The display itself is still in good condition considering its age, its as good as any brand new CRT you will get so it’s certainly lasted. You have all the normal options on a monitor ...

Taxan on the wallet
Advantages: Lots of options to perfect the image display, reliable Disadvantages: Was quite expensive
...course it also has the usual brightness, contrast and colour adjustments.
I have not had a single problem with this monitor, and it gets a fair bit of use. When it finally does give up, or it's time to upgrade, I will definitely look at a Taxan again. ...

Reasonable price just dont expect trimmings
Advantages: Excellent price Disadvantages: Some dodgy image controls and buitl in VGA cable
...space they swallow, but the Taxan didn't overstep the mark in this respect, with a cabinet depth of 460mm or about 18 inches; not much more than that of a typical 17-inch unit.
The whole thing weighed 22kg, which is again about right for its size, and the tilt/swivel stand provided with it was able to hold the cabinet at the desired angle without it slipping out of position. For this sort of money you aren't going to get trimmings like a USB hub ... ...have to go back to Taxan for repairs, but hopefully this won't happen often.
Taxan has stuck to a tried and tested formula for its external controls, which simply consist of a set of four buttons below the bezel for navigating the OSD and selecting and adjusting items. The OSD itself is easy to understand and move around in, and contains all the necessary settings, including rotation and pin-balance, which sometimes get left out of cheaper displays, ...

Ok buy
Advantages: Good, clear quality, very sharp Disadvantages: lower model numbers are unreliable
Having used a range of Taxan monitors at work, I have noticed that they are an ok buy.
I have used a variety of differet models,(the 410, 530, 710) I have found that the lower number models, i.e. the 410, seem to go blurry after a while. After 2 years use, 5 out of the 12 14" 410 models we had in the offices were unuseable, while one of the 510 models out of 4 that we had at the time, was also unuseable. However, the monitors are relatively cheap ...

Bigscreen entertainment!
Advantages: Ultra sharp picture Disadvantages: It's a heavy-weight
The flat cathode-ray-screen is really impressive when you’ve been used to the convex curve of the average monitor. You’ll wonder why you never noticed the ugly bend on your old screen. Trust me, this isn’t just a new screen, it’s a new way of seeing! The image is impressively sharp, and the monitor supports a broad range of Windows resolution settings. With no flicker it’s very easy on the eyes and should keep you up all night exclaiming ‘Wow!’ at ... ...monitor stands on a low-friction positional base for easy adjustment, and it really is easy: despite the monitor’s considerable weight, adjustment can be done with a single finger. The casing is uncluttered with only two controls apparent: the on/off button and a single button for controlling the image quality. Far from limiting your options, pressing the OSD (On Screen Display) button will superimpose the first of 4 menus over your current application. ...
