Advantages: Cheap clothes, its closing down Disadvantages: Boring or outrageous designs
Yes it is hard to believe that in only 5 days C&A will missing for the British High Street (unless the closure day is extended again!).
I must admit that in recent years C&A has lost its appeal. The clothes somehow seemed tired and dated the appeal that I had for it during the 80's dwindled in the 90's. That all changed last week.
I attend a small village tap school and they take part in charity shows. As you can imagine, ... ...but C&A has helped here. I found a number of dresses reduced by 50%. The material that they are made from costs £8.00 a metre. So you can see how much is really spent on only 6 teenagers. Then there is the younger end of the school. I picked up 12 glitter skirts for £4.00 each and even squinned bob-tubes (Tops) for £6.00. I saved well over £300.00 on clothes alone. Hair bobbles tights and socks were reduced by as much as 75% too.

I attend a small village tap school and they take part in charity shows. As you can imagine, costumes take up at large amount of the schools budget, but C&A has helped here. But for me personally, there was nothing that caught my eye. There were outrageous party dresses, boring jumpers, but nothing I liked. I may have missed the bargains but never mind. You cannot win them all. Full-length mirrors were being sold off for only £10.00 each. Shame I only did my bedroom up last year, so do not need any!
The people that I really feel sorry for are the employees. The closing date of these stores has been extended since October 2000. Many have left already. One person told me that she would stay until the final closure, and then have a long holiday. Some of the others that are left seem dizzy!! I may have been wrong. They were very young and did not appear fully in control of the situation. Jobs are still hard to come by!
If you have time check this store in the next couple of days. You may find a bargain or too, but you will not know unless you look. If you need to return an item there are a selected number of stores that will stay open for another week or two. Please check when you purchase any clothing, fixtures or fittings from the shop
Post Script
The shop in now closed and may it rest in peace here in the UK. I am sure that it will be missed by many, but for me, no. This shop lost its real appeal around twelve years ago.
Advantages: Biggest closing down sale of all Disadvantages: Leaving the UK for good
...the closure of all the C & A Stores throughout the United Kingdom iminenet there has never been a better time to hunt down a bargain than right now.
If our local store is anything to go by then there are some terrific bargains to be had. I have recently bought jumbers, socks, underware, kids coats, jackets, shirts and trousers from them all at well below half price. As the date for their departure from the UK draws ever closer I think we will find ...

Advantages: None they no longer exist Disadvantages: None they no longer exist
C & A have been on our local highstreets for years and became a british institution. However, like most retailers they found that they could no longer continue making a profit, and the company had to die and with it a part of the traditional british highstreet dies as well.
C & A offered good quality clothing at resonable prices. There was always a bargain to be found. They even managed modernise the designs for the teenages who bought dresses, ... ...pay over the odds. C & A was a family store and that is why they survived as long as they did as from babies to grandparents they had clothes to suit. The clothes were sometimes a bit odd so you did have to hunt around and be selective. Still at xmas it came in handy to get a family member a gift, and if you did not like the person there was even more to choose from.
When it was announced that they were going to cease trading the sales went up as ...

...a major department store?
C & As This store is still running for the time being, but our local store in oxford will be shutting its doors to the public in January. I expect this to co inside with the january sales, ( good for bargain hunters).
The store catered for both young and old and children also. The sizes were quite good as well. The store in oxford is clean and modern with lifts.
The quality of the goods were fair and prices affordable, ...

C&A in Reading was closing. I didn't think they would be so tacky to TRY and sell second-hand ring binders for 20p. They are really despearate. But still all the clothes were really cheap along with the checkout till for £30. Apart from that C&A is a really good store for clothes. The reason it is closing in Reading is probably that it is the other side of town from the Oracle. Where most people go to do there clothes shopping. Shame still C&A will ...

Advantages: Convenient, loyalty points system, frequent special offers Disadvantages: Some overpriced items
, snack and sandwich, for £2.60. There's loads of choice there as well - Diet Coke to mineral water, Mars bars to Wotsits, sandwiches to sushi, and they're all cheaper and healthier than McDonalds!
The Trafford Centre branch has a lift and a staircase, so if you have difficulty moving about, then this won't be a problem. There are no toilets or baby-changing facilities in either the T/C or my local.
Boots seem to be becoming more of a departmentstore than a chemist. I have seen trampolines on sale, they sell cameras, and Janine (jlearner) has informed me they are now selling baby clothes!
There's always a catch, and with Boots, it's the prices. You can find the products cheaper elsewhere, ie: Bodycare or Superdrug. A few examples:
Impulse deodorant, £2.19 in Boots is £1.49 in Superdrug. A Herbal Essences shampoo in Bodycare costs £1 ...

Advantages: Underwear, Very Helpful Staff Disadvantages: Some Truely Boring Clothes and Expensive Food
I spend rather too much time in BHS, especially considering I have a young, hip and trendy image to maintain (!). However I do have a very good excuse - I work in one. Well, technically I work in an Iceland in one, but you get the general idea (and I’m not plugging my ‘actual’ place of work!). So by now I think I can give you a run down on the pros and cons.
BHS actually opened it’s doors as British Home Stores way back in 1928, so after over 70 years of trading they should have got the hang of it by now! Essentially a departmentstore in the way that C&A (R.I.P) was, but stocking the same type of clothes and other goods as M&S, BHS has been suffering of late. The store I work in is particularly quiet, although it does seem to produce very loyal customers.
Customer Service
I can without doubt say ...
Advantages: Larger sizes available, good range of products, friendly staff Disadvantages: Far too much for me to choose from, I'd soon be penniless
Last month I bought a gorgeous dress in time for my husband?s Christmas party that is being held this year in a swanky hotel. I was lucky enough to find shoes to match as well as a handbag and jewellery, but underwear was more of a struggle. While I might have found my dream dress, I didn?t think about what I was going to wear underneath. The dress is a backless, off the shoulder affair not a problem I hear you scream, but oh yes it is. It seemed that if you had boobs bigger than a C cup then there was no way you were going to get a sexy strapless boulder holder. I tried three well-known departmentstores and while they did have loads of underwear on sale, I just couldn?t find what I was looking for. My poor husband who had been roped into shopping with me was beginning to tire of shopping for knickers and that was saying something ...
