C.B. Fry was Captain of England at cricket, played football for England and became the joint-holder of the world long-jump record. But he was also an Oxford scholar and a writer, and he tried out for Hollywood, represented India at the League of Nations, and stood for Parliament three times.
...It is usual for works of literature to be based around some sort of love triangle where A loves B, B loves C and C loves A. But most originally here we have a linear development. A loves B loves C loves D loves E etc. Passion spreads like a disease amongst the characters, and in none of the cases is the love ever reciprocated. Andromache wants to protect the memory of her dead husband Hector and thus fends off the advances of the king Pyrrhus. The play ends in tragedy for the marginal characters but Andromache escapes protecting her son Astyanax. This is rather original but not particularly moving with too many subplots to keep track of....

Good. Yes? Review ofConsider Phlebas - Iain M. Banksby
demondog
Advantages: Original. Inventive Disadvantages: Story Hangs losely with weak prose.
...Has oldershs even read the book?
It's absolutely terrrible! From where we set out to meeting the elders we know the entire body will turn to the casual "stephen-king" style of fantasy. No it holds nothing on its' own and pales against the masters of the genre. However Banks has strength in his orignality - if only he could tie it together into a cohesive story.
This really stand out in our apathy of the charecters fate!
I was left wondering whether to splah out on his further work in the filed. Surely it must get better?...

Advantages: Brilliantly written, great plot Disadvantages: None
...I first bought this book because a) it was in a sale, b) I like Stephen King books and c) I love reading. I read it totally addicted the first time and have since read it again. The book is about a man who just tries to do good but is accused of being, essentially, an evil man. For this he gets put on Death Row, which obviously adds up to a wery touching story. Dispite being a 15 year old boy, who likes all the normal things like violence and videogames, I admit to finding the book touching as well as having many hidden messages left to think about once the book is finished. The way King fits all the sections of the plot together is amazing, plus the feelings of the characters he gets across is cool. All in all my favoutite book of all time....
