The subject really is "are cable&wireless falling behind??"
With regards to unmetered access the following have something
BT have surftime and most other unmetered services such as freeserve where you need a bt line.
telewest have an unmetered service
NTL also have an unmetered service but being C&W we still cant use this which i find hard to understand, even the staff at C&W couldnt answer why for the time being
The section reason i think they are falling behind is their attitude towards hi-speed internet

I am using Cable & Wireless in the Falkland Islands. The cost for internet access is GBP£120.00 (USD$180+) for an ADSL connection that is capped at 3,000Mb per month (uploads and downloads combined)
The service is advertised as up to 1024kbps, but this figure is never reached, it is more like 80kbps ,even at off-peak times like 5.00am and at peak times it is almost impossible to use the service.
They also have a monopoly on the Islands, so another ... ...ago by an enterprising young man, but C&W threatened to take the ISP involved to court, so they stopped the service as for 1 customer it was not worth the hassle.
C&W refuse to take this seriously, even though the average wage of many local users at the military base is only GBP£500.00, Nearly 25% of their income and given that communications are one of the most important commodities a country requires.

Cable and Wireless Connect Package at 29.99 per month for up to 75 hours off peak surfing per month was far too expensive and appears to have been withdrawn since the takeover by NTL. I originally thought that with the NTL takeover, Cable and Wireless phone users would be able to take advantage of the excellent NTL service with unmetered calls. This is not the case, Cable and Wireless Customers have been left in limbo, cant use most unmetered ISPs ...

Advantages: Saves a fortune and believe me it really does mean as long as you like on the net Disadvantages: None
I was with Cable for my TV for years then i discovered that they also had a special offer on Internet provision supplied by Blueyonder.co.uk who are fantastic and provide a brilliant service so i checked it out. I have Cheap Phone calls,unlimited internet access 24 hrs a day 7 days a week,free computer help number to call which will assist with any problems and you only wait about 5 mins each time to speak to somebodyLoads of cable channels including ... ...a trip to the vid shop),free answerphone service,ability to buy special pay per view events. And how much do you think i pay for all of this well only £20.00 a month there are conditions to the internet though not a big one and that is that you must pay your bill by direct debit and spend more than £10.00 A MONTH ON THE PHONE WHICH WE DO NO PROBLEM. We use at least 70 hours a week between us on the internet and have had no complaints from them and ...

Advantages: reliable, connections generally good, good printouts of settings, good technical support Disadvantages: linked with NTL, poor e-mail servers, slow connection speeds atm, poor homepage
...access with local call charges, Cable and Wireless has to be one of the best (even after NTL have got their claws in)!!
You don't find engaged tones and connection problems with C&W which is a very good point immediately. You would be suprised just how many pay for call ISP's offer poor service despite the fact that you are paying them for every minute online.
The home page isn't brilliant and contains not much other than NTL adverts. However there ... ...I would advise using your own choice as your homepage. The sign on page when you set up an account is excellent. After you have signed on it displays a summary that you can print out and keep, so there is no trying to remember what mail settings, passwords, and so on - everything that you want is there. The only problem that I have found is that the mail servers seem to be down a lot. I'm not quite sure why this is, whether it has something to do ...

Having been with cable and wireless for 2yrs and getting throughly fed up with their customer services who half the time had just come out of infant school and didn't have a clue, I did try their internet service 'connect' but at £30 for 75 hrs internet it's very steep, I had problems connecting, I got cut off every 20mins VERY annoying, in the end I scrapped Cable and Wireless and got connected to BT and went on to their anytime internet package ...
