NOWHERE in their letter were you informed that if you did sign up you would lose your unmetered calls to other cable customers, ie your free internet access would be lost. The bills have been frequently wrong, for instance one month I was billed for calls that had been made 6 months ago, they stuck a London dialing prefix to all my local calls another month turning them into national calls, bank holidays were charged at standard rate, I could go on and on. Getting hold of them if the phone line was down which was frequently was impossible with a queuing system which cost a fortune if you were in a pay phone. I dont know how much thinkgs will change now that they've been taken over by NTL, but at the moment for instance you still cant use NTLs ISP or any other products specific to NTL

We had a nice young man arrive on our doorstep to sell us this marvellous service for no fee and if we had the basic tv set up as well we would get the phone line rental free too. Seemed to good to be true and it was.
The box was duly installed and sat there for 4 weeks unusable because they had not bothered to set it up right and the picture was constantly blocking and freezing as they call it!!
After serveral increasing irate phone calls from ... ...receive the first bill asking us for a huge payment for the installation of the set top box!!!!!*arrgghh*
Again several phone calls later they would not return the money and only agreed to credit our account!!!! I am not impressed by this company and I can only hope that ntl have a better customer service record or else we will be changing back to BT rather quickly!!! ...

...that NTL has bought out Cable and Wireless what is going to happen to the existing internet services, We have all heard and read the stories on the news and in the local/national press about people still waiting for months (me been in this catergory)for their CD's for the Internet Connection Package that NTL are currently and supposedly Offering by advertising on Television , just what has NTL done with the customer service side of the business, ... ...or totally disappear........
An example of what I mean is I re-rang NTL to get one of the internet CD's and talking to one of there operator's he asked which Telephone provider I was with, Told Him it was C&W he then goes into great detail of how NTL have just bought them out etc , Great thinks me seeing my chances of getting one of the infamous CD's improve greatly, only for him to then hang up on me without taking my address to send the cd to....the ...

...be truthful my experience with Cable and Wireless was over a year ago.
But even though it is now NTL the same staff will be sat sitting in their Customer Centres.
My problem started when I added Cable and wirless TV package to their telephone service, it seemed to make sense at the time.
About two months later, I received my Bank Statement, Cable and Wireless had taken,via direct debit, £70.95........ it should have been £21.00.
I was not pleased ... ...to the chairman of the company.
I terminated the service or the lack of it.
I did receive my money back in the end, but came to the conclusion that Cable and Wireless from the chairman down it lacks the basic understanding of CUSTOMER CARE.

Well then C&W thought you could take us on did you? Well you got it a bit wrong didn't you!!
Some time ago now I recived my C&W bill nothing abnormal only when I ran through the call costs I realized that I had been re-charged for the last months service and calls, so I rang the help desk (which incidentaly is hopeless) and I was told that the problem would be rectified, all I had to do was wait untill the reminded arived and that would have the ... ...I started to get a little worried, I dug out the previous months reciept from the bank to prove that the bill had been paid and then just sat and waited to see what would happen next, a month rolled by and still no word, two months, three months had them forgotten? NO money was taken from my direct debit account for three months, I rang yet again and asked what was goin on, the answer was, you have been cut off, O great well actualy no I haden't. ...

Cable & Wireless has now been taken over by NTL. However, the prices are still the same and free internet is not available yet.
This is frankly unacceptable as I would have no problem getting free internet with a BT line.
I joined C&W four years ago when it was Videotron. One of the advantages of cable phones is that installation is cheap or free as long as you are in a cabled area, whereas a BT line would set you back around £100.

I went with BT after problems with Cable and Wireless I thought a move to a big company which had been going for years would know what they were doing, I was wrong! Since my first bill I've had nothing but probs, I had a huge bill sent to me with 2 numbers dialled over and over again, I didn't even know what they were, BT said they'd take it off my next bill, did they 'eck! They said I had phoned those numbers , I have no idea what they were! I kept ringing BT and they said a letter had been sent to me, I never received it!
then they said a manager would ring me, they never did that either. Of course I had to pay the bill or I'd get cut off, they had me in a trap.
Since I've heard of someone else with the same problem, they even took BT to court but came away with nothing.

We have been with NTL since they bought the Cable and Wireless Networks and took over both the telephone internet cable TV and digfital TV services.
The prices of Cable and wireless have remained the same, even thought the service has become more reliable and easier to use.
The problem with C&W was that every so often tyhe service used to break down and we would be left without telephone or cable for days on end. This was a regular occurance with Cable and Wireless.
Since moving to NTL we have had no problems what so ever, in fact the service that we have recieved has been better than ever before.
The only fault with NTL is that when I try to dial into my ISP (AOL) at peak times, I frequently get spoken message from NTL through my modem that the service is too busy to accept the call.

Advantages: Free surfing - then 1p a minute Disadvantages: Off Peak only - modem speed is only 9600
a portal in Germany (via Cable & Wireless in London) for free or 1p a minute off peak - this is less than many people pay for fixed line connections!
Okay, the modem speed is only 9,600kbps, but this is plenty fast enough for POP-3 mail and well-written web sites.
I liked it so much that I bought one for myself! Now I use my old phone during the day and Everyday 50 off peak - I ring FRIENDS & FAMILY during the evening and at weekends - and it hardly costs a bean.
