are goingto trasnfer any video to a computer its firewire all the way, it trasnfers at 480mbs which is great quality, as oppose to usb.1.0 that is 11mbs, the quality you will get , both sound and video, is amazing in comparison.
the only trouble you may have is matching the pin sizes to you firewire card and you dv camera. the standard dv size is 4 pinto 6 pin, but on a laptop, the firewire cable you are likely to need is 4 pinto 4 pin, as the laptop has a 4 pin firewire socket in it. it is always best to check which ports you need , otherwise you will be stuck with a none fitting cable.
so overal firewire is a great product, this cable was fast and relible and i would very much reccomend it at such a low price. : )

I am definately not a techno type of person but can certainly recommend this data cable. It is a useful, functional piece of equipment which allows you to link your Sony camcorder to any kind of PC.
