THE SCENT OF "PARADISE"

Advantages: Long-lasting; suits many skin types; might make you sexually attractive.

Disadvantages: Cheap looking packaging; might make you sexually attractive to the wrong person.

Three months ago I chose to return home, not just for Christmas, but to sort my life out. I started to sort my things. I hadn't realised that I had so many perfumes - almost enough to open my own shop! I wondered, why not write a review about each one? Or maybe at least write about one of my favorites? Of course, I struggled to choose which perfume to review until I saw that Eden by Cacharel was listed on Ciao, but had yet to be reviewed.

I couldn't believe Eden was so under-estimated that even after 14 years of release no one had written about it. I searched the net looking for reviews about this perfume; I was surprised to learn that there are no proper reviews what so ever! There were only a few lines on another review site. It is a very strange and unusual perfume, so it is my chance to describe it and let consumers know about it.

It is pretty hard to describe perfume smells and their effect on people. As with all scents it can smell differently on particular people's skin but Eden seems to smell great on almost everyone, especially on darker skin, although I'm not sure why this should be.

In the next few lines I'm going to explain everything about this perfume and you will be surprised to know how effective and powerful this perfume is, so.....stay tuned!

Eden Perfume by Cacharel

Eden was launched by the French design house of Cacharel in 1994.

Eden is another name for the paradise gardens where Adam and Eve lived before they committed their first sin! But the question remains, "Does this perfume deserve to be named after Paradise?"

How did we meet?

It sounds funny to put that question, but it was just like that! I remember back to my birthday in 1996 (no, I'm not saying how old I was, so don't ask). I had this gift from a very close friend. It was the smallest gift I received, and to be honest I felt gutted because it was such a really small box. I thought to myself It might be a big surprise but I wasn't hopeful.

After the party I left this gift till the end as I wasn't really that excited about it. I opened the wrapper to find a small green perfume box covered with printed flowers so I presumed it would be a flowery perfume; these were not my favourite scents.

The bottle
After a horrific beginning I opened the box to find another surprise! The bottle was very basic, awkward shape and simply onyx GREEN! Yuck! The cap was very bland, cheap green plastic. As it is a perfume made by Cacharel I was expecting a better looking bottle, so it didn't give the best impression when I saw it.

The smell
Because it had a hideous shape, not to mention that very bland green colour, I thought the smell was going to be the same. I hadn't very encouraged by its looks, and decided that if the worse got to the worse I could use it as an air freshener spray so it wouldn't go to waste (I know; I was dumb then!) Just as I have later on learnt not to judge a book by its cover, in this case I learnt not to judge a perfume smell by its bottle.

As I opened the bottle to try the smell, I was shocked! and I admitted I was wrong to judge it by its looks: the fragrance was heavenly sweet! Eden is a refreshing, sharp, oriental, floral fragrance. This feminine scent is a blend of sweet spices, oriental, and floral smells, water lilies, a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon (which give it the sweet and spicy smell), while the combination of peppermint, lavender, eucalyptus and menthol give it a sharpness.

All these sexy, attractive smells took me straight to paradise! Yes, the smell matches the name perfectly!

For some weird reason it reminded me of my childhood days: we used to have a fruity chewing gum which smells a lot like it. My friends and I used to chew it and then smell each others mouths (_I can't believe how we used to do it!_)! Anyway, back to the perfume.

It is very light, musky flowery perfume suitable for summer times and surprisingly can be used at evenings because of its powerful smell.

How does it feel on me?

I like to smell good so I use perfume generously. I did the same with Eden. I sprayed it all over as I used to do with the others. It was so strong and powerful, I guess I overdid it, and the smell filled the air for hours! It was the first time ever I had experienced this kind of lasting perfume. I almost suffocated!

After 10-15 minutes I decided the smell was getting subtler and lighter so I felt it was safe to go out now to work!

On my way to work, every single person I passed kept on looking back at me! I looked at myself to see if there was anything wrong: maybe my zip was opened, or my skirt was up? I was confused until someone stopped me and asked, "What kind of perfume do you wear? Is it from here? I want to buy it for my girlfriend." Guess what - it has so many other uses!!

I didn't know then what he meant by his questions, but I can tell you after more than 11 years of use that it can turn your husband or boyfriend on! It is 'Guaranteed'!! So boys, ditch the Viagra and try Eden on your ladies, it won't let you down; girls, try some on your men JUST FOR FUN!

Availability and Price

It comes in both EDP (parfum) and EDT (toilet water) in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml bottles. Of course EDP is more powerful and more expensive but it is very worthy and very economical: you need not use much of it, and it will last for the whole day and night without the smell altering or growing faint. In my experience a 30ml bottle lasted for a whole year even with daily use.

The prices vary and differ from one shop to another.
For the 30ml bottle EDP it ranges between a bargain £10(!) and £25 at BOOTS.
The 50ml bottle costs between £32 and £45.
The 100ml is available for £48 - £57

As for myself, I recommend the 30 ml bottle - it will last for longer than a year for a sensible user (unlike myself, who could finish the whole bottle in a couple of months).
A bargain gift set of 30ml EDP, shower gel and body lotion for £27.50 was available only at one shop, Debenhams, when I made my last purchase, so I have had the benefit of indulging myself with the shower gel, then pampering my body with the lotion, and finishing my scent layering with a few sprays of Eden! Heaven!

CONCLUSION

The perfume's scent is a success but the looks do not give it an advantage.
I would probably rate this perfume as 9.5 / 10
It loses the 0.5 for presentation (both bottle and box).

If I was in the Cacharel hot seat I would change that awfully bland green cap, that hideous flowery box and that disastrous green bottle.

This perfume is very good value for money. How stupid was I to think this could be suitable as an air-freshener spray! Now I realise how precious it is. It is suitable as a day or night perfume: very seductive and naughty. [_Hey, boys….the new 'Viagra' is here so don't miss your chance!_]

It lasts for hours and hours even under very hot and humid weather and when it is sprayed on clothes it lasts for days or even weeks!

Do I recommend this perfume for everyone?
Oh YES…YES…YES!
