Most people’s favourite chocolate treat is the Cadbury’s Crème egg, which is a small chocolate egg, which is produced by Cadbury Schweppes. Everyone should probably know about the crème eggs as there has been numerous adverts for “how do you eat your crème egg” and they are known for their chocolate shell and egg white and yolk centre which is highly sweet and sometimes sickly. First produced in 1923, and has been making one of the most popular chocolate treats which is eaten all year around. Their most common advertising slogan “how do you eat yours?”.
If I crossed the road now and asked my friend if she’d heard of the Cadbury Crème Egg ice cream she’d probably question if it even existed, I think that not a lot of promotion was done to get the public informed about their new invented product which probably would be a hit with the kids. A further company called Fredericks helped produce and market the Cadbury’s Crème Egg ice cream bar, but now a further step on we now have Cadbury’s Crème Egg on a stick!! Whoopieedooh, unfortunately those who have a sweet tooth are going to be digging in to the pack of 3x100ml crème egg ice-creams, and getting a tad nauseous from that sickly fondant filling. It states “Real Cadbury Pleasure” - but I think its just too sweet for the word pleasure to describe it, more than sugar heaven. But you are getting good value for money, 3 in a pack that’s less than 33.3p for one ice cream - bargain-ous!!
Upon research of the ice cream lolly (also known as Cadbury Crème Egg on a Stick) I couldn‘t find the product on their website? What a surprise that was, a current product which they aren‘t even showing the existence of… I go into certain shops and ask if they have any when I first become aware of it existing, but they have never heard of it either. So it was a long hard search until I found one of these, however if you want to view it, it is on the website of the company that produces Cadbury’s ice creams. I guess that the public aren’t aware of this tasty ice cream just yet, but I’m sure they’ll come a day when people will recognise them and try the product.
Below are two websites which you can check the Cadbury products on: http://www.fredericksdairies.com/products-cadbury/ - check this site for their ice cream products. http://www.cadbury.co.uk/EN/CTB2003/ - but they don’t list any of their ice cream products on there.
-----------ICECREAM-----------
To my surprise a little while back I was browsing the local freezer cabinets for something to eat, because for once in a while, the sun was out and shining and it actually seemed like summer, not rainy and thundery like it had been for days. That’s when I saw the box that held a Cadbury’s Creme Egg ice cream (this time not a bar but on a stick); well three of them were snugly packed into the box ready to be bought. Interesting I thought to myself as I hadn’t seen any advertisements or posters letting the public know of the release of their new product, but I thought since I liked Cadbury’s crème egg, that I wouldn’t mind a piece of this - especially as it was a hot day, and I couldn’t see myself holding the non-ice cream product, getting coated in gooey sticky filling as well as the chocolate melting over my fingers, hum, nice. After all 3 for a pound is great value for money, and an offer couldn’t be refused. Unfortunately the downside is that you can’t really find them in the local shops, the only places that sell them are local supermarkets, namely Iceland - land of the freezer foods.
The only other product I’d heard of that was by Cadburys and ice cream was the McFlurry’s at McDonalds which contained either Cadbury chocolate bits or even crème egg, which if I recall correctly came out around Easter time. Ooh was that sickly, all that orange gunk mixed in with ice cream and chocolate chunks but then again a little bit of it was quite tasty. Everyone seemed to know about the Cadburys crème egg ice cream bar, which closely resembles the shape of other ice cream bars like Snickers and Mars. As well as the bar they do a Cadbury’s Crème Egg ice cream CONE! Like the shape of an ice cream, only the top coated in chocolate. Smart idea they had there, kind of like a drip proof ice cream, protected by a sphere of chocolate.
Believe it or not the actual Cadburys crème egg ice-cream on a stick, closely resembled the shape of Magnums and Solero ice cream on a stick, a similar shape with a stick that has their name embossed onto it. Nothing fancy there, just plain chocolate coated around an oval on a stick about 2 centimetres thick and as long as the palm of my hand. It didn’t look remotely interesting but its taste was certainly unique that no other company would get - without that lovely fondant yolk filling.
-------------PACKAGING-----------
To my surprise it was easy to recognise sitting along the other freezer items, as Cadbury’s crème egg, has the yellow splat shaped logo with their font Cadburys crème egg plastered across it. Furthermore the background of the packaging is purple. On the front of the packaging there is an image of the ice lolly on the front, and the number 3 to show how many ice creams it contains. Nothing fancy just simple, it shows the product as I’ve said, has the ingredients written on the back with useful phone numbers. The packaging looks like the rest of their products square in shape, made from cardboard and then the ice creams are individually wrapped in plastic with the same design as the box. Plain and simple, but yet its very eye catching.
Keep it simple I guess, the font is quite large, enough to see the logo from a distance and it is simple and bold which attracts attention - the logo and the picture isn’t too busy so there wont be other images on the box that will distract you - they just show you straight - here it is, Cadburys Crème Egg on a stick. A way of avoiding the sticky mess that you’d get from a crème egg, but now its on a stick and frozen. Cold treats are better for summer.
Certainly can recognise it in the freezers, cadburys do quite a selection of ice creams.
--------------FLAVOUR,TASTE,TEXTURE--------------
Without a doubt I first judged it to taste just like the gooey mess of a Cadburys chocolate crème egg, but my prediction was wrong. Firstly I thought it would be highly overpowering in taste, which I thought would be sticky and sickly. And there we go, you break into the ice cream just like you would the Cadburys crème egg, but you are certainly going to eat this in a different way. Beyond the thin layer of milk chocolate which encapsulated the sweet filling; was the white ice cream and the yolk representing an egg.
A little bit of a disappointment as I’d got the taste of the Cadburys crème egg in my mouth and instead this tasted more milky and mild. I was expecting it to be sticky and sweet, but my taste buds showed me otherwise. Everyone who tries these will probably expect that creamy consistency on the inside just like the crème egg usually shows on adverts and that you picture when people break their chocolate crème eggs open. The fondant filling is packed into the centre, with the taste just like the crème egg - sweet and sugary, to describe it simply it’s got a gooey consistency in your mouth like thick honey/syrup, but in this case. The rest is just ice cream surrounding it. This ice cream is going to be popular with kids, it’s chocolate, ice cream and a tonne of yellow sugary centre filling - hmm. A sweet treat with 3 sections to it, whether you fancy eating the yellow filling first or the ice cream - but just like a chocolate crème egg you have to break into the chocolate to get munching on the rest.
Now it might sound too sickly for you, but you have to give everything at least a try before you say you don't like it. My opinion on the icecream changed, the taste wasn't too bad but I wouldn't say it's the best ice cream out there. Kids will love it as the centre is yellow and of course its ice cream, what kid doesn't love ice cream?
As you know anything that’s a treat is bound to contain a high amount of calories or even ridiculous amounts of fats and E numbers to get the way they are. It might be an advantage if you buy an ice cream containing no hydrogenated fat, but on the negative side, it will still be packed full of additives. Cadbury's Creme Egg Ice Cream contains 8 E numbers (whoa that’s a lot of E numbers, probably more than smarties!) including colour, stabilisers and emulsifiers. I know that listing this isn't neccessary but sometimes its helpful, generally helps you recognise what you can taste in the product.
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION Each ice-cream contains: Energy 840 kJ/200 kcal - certainly got enough energy with all that sugar packed in it. Protein 28g Fibre Trace Fat 11.9g (of which saturates) 6.8g - the unhealthy part. Carbohydrate 20.5g (of which sugars) 19.1g - sugar, sugar, sugar. Sodium 0.1g, that’s a lot of salt to be put in ice creams, but then its part of your diet.
Usually if you love something don’t read the ingredients as it makes it sound a lot worse than the product actually is, just the thought of dried milk protein gives you an image in your head, vegetable fat just reminds me of cooking oil, and emulsifiers reminds me of paint.
INGREDIENTS --Fondant Sauce 5% Made from: (Water, Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Invert Sugar, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Colour E160a) --Milk Chocolate 31% Made from: (Milk, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Vegetable Fat, Emulsifiers E442, Soya Lecithin) --Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Fructose --Dried Milk Protein, Dried Buttermilk, Partially Reconstituted Dried Skimmed Milk --Vegetable Oil - the ingredient which puts you off when you think about it!! --Emulsifier (E471), Flavouring --Stabilisers (Pectin, E410, E412) --Stabilisers (E410, E412, E407) stabilisers remind me of them wheels you have on your bike as a kid!!!
Look at all those shocking E numbers, will not be a popular one for the parents to look at - besides who wants their kid eating something full of E numbers that is going to make them fidget, twitch and go hyper - let alone the E numbers there is a lot of glucose and fructose used to make it have that sugary sweet taste. Suddenly I don't feel to great about what I have eaten but all is fair in the purpose of review writing! All the words you see are fat, emulsifiers, stabilisers and man do they stand out from the healthy part of the ice cream, well what is healthy about that? Not all E numbers are bad though, they are just assosciated with that, sometimes i've seen parents checking labels for E numbers and colourings, and they put it down.
-------OTHER INTERESTING FACTS------------
According to Cadbury's they have some smart facts on their website about their existing creme egg product.
Did you know?
If all the eggs made on the Creme Egg plant were laid, end to end - they'd stretch all the way from their factory in Birmingham UK to Sydney in Australia - to the other side of the world, thats 12,000 miles and that's an interesting fact.
Their Cadbury Creme Egg plant factory at Bournville can produce more than 1.5 million eggs per day. And furthemore it's the best selling confectionery product between January 1st and Easter.
Lastly over 200 million are sold yearly, that's about 3 for every person in the UK!!! That's alot of sugarrrrrrr.
-----------FINALLY-----------
I believe if this product was advertised on TV more then it would create a better promotional side for the launch of the product, resulting in more sales. Unfortunately I haven’t seen this advertised anywhere, and nobody I know has, so how are the public to become aware of it - word of mouth? Maybe if it was put in magazines or billboards at the local shop - yet we haven’t seen that yet have we.
I don’t know about the amount of E numbers in the product but isn’t that a little shocking when the country is trying to become more health conscious and aware, this definitely won’t be a hit with the parents if they read the ingredients but then again kids would love this product. I aren’t too overly keen, I prefer Solero’s but it’s good that Cadburys are continuously improving and increasing their range of products to the public. Overall it’s great value for money what they cram into that tiny box.
I’d just like to thank you for reading my review, hopefully it didn’t bore you too much, and maybe there were some slight funny references to some of the product on my review to keep you amused whilst reading. And hopefully you became aware of their product and what it’s like - maybe even now if you like their crème eggs you’ll give their ice cream a try…

...even made it onto the Cadbury website. Prior to the launch of the Creme Egg on a stick ice cream, there was a cone version (as shown in the Ciao picture). ♠ Three pack ♠
These Egg Stick Lollies come in a pack of three. As I'm a one for trying new things and loving a bargain, I got them as a buy one get one free offer. They cost £1.99 for 3 which I think quite expensive for freezer ice creams, a whole 66p each. A quick mental maths as ... ...'how do you eat yours?' Cadbury Crème Egg. Each individual lolly is also wrapped in the same coloured packaging. This does make identifying them loose in the freezer if you want to ditch the outer box.
♠ Give It Some Stick ♠
We all know the famous and seductive ‘how do you eat yours’ advertising slogan of the Cadbury Crème Egg. The same slogan fits well with the Ice cream version and is infinitely more sexy because the Crème Egg Ice ...

A few weeks ago I was browsing the freezer cabinets in my local Iceland and came across the Cadbury Creme Egg Ice cream and I knew I just had to have them and the fact that ...
