My Opinion

These crème eggs have been around since the 1960s and have always been a firm favourite of many. Over the years they have flooded the market and been most annoying by being on sale form the Christmas season onwards.

Other brands have copied the chocolate egg shape and style such as Galaxy, but the Cardbury's version is the most well known and iconic in its shape and packaging with the image being found on items of clothing and reproduced in jewellery and toy cars etc.

However there was a lot of publicity this year when it was announced that the egg would no longer be encased in Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate but in something called “standard cocoa mix chocolate. It’s no longer Dairy Milk. It is similar, but not exactly Dairy Milk,” said a spokesman for Cadbury, which was bought by the US giant Kraft in 2010. They also said that it had never been called 'Dairy Milk', though most people buying a Cadbury egg would have assumed that it was.

I am sure everyone is acquainted with a crème egg – being a fondant centre surrounded by chocolate. The middle is yellow to resemble the egg yolk and it is surrounded by soft white fondant.

The eggs are wrapped in attractive foil wrapper in the distinctive colours of red, yellow and purple.

The egg is a standard egg size and shape and has circular markings around the outside of the chocolate.

The chocolate surround is reasonably thick and seems pretty much like it always has been, though not having one of the other recipe eggs to compare it to it is difficult to be certain.

Inside in the usual soft and runny white filling with the runny yellow centre.

It is difficult to say if the chocolate actually tastes any different these days as with this product all you taste is sweet sickly sugar.
Having 26.5 grams of sugar in each egg is the equivalent of over six and a half teaspoons of sugar – a crazy amount for such a small product.

Attractive and cute, but way too sweet and sickly for me and the sweetness overrides any flavour that might be in the chocolate or fondant.

Not appetizing or at all pleasant ot eat – I just nibbled mine and threw the rest away.

Chocolate is pleasnat to eat but not when this sweet.

I am sure the Galaxy eggs I had the other year were nto as tooth rottingly sweet as this.

If you want to view something interesting seach on Youtube for how these are made in auch a way as to encase the liquidy fondant – makes interesting viewing to see the eggs being snapped together in the factory.
