Review of "Cadbury Creme Eggs"
For my very first review on Ciao, I decided to write about Cadbury's Crème Eggs! For those of you unfamiliar with this product, Crème Eggs are the size and shape of a real life egg, albeit made from chocolate.
The outside wrapper consists of foil, which is fine with me as it takes me back to the old chocolate wrappers, before the time of the plastic wrapping on products these days. The only problem with this is that sometimes, you may tend to find a sticky egg as the filling has spilt out of the foil, if the eggs are damaged by people.Once unwrapped from the foil, you get to the chocolate egg, which is actually quite thick and not as thin as an actual egg shell. This is quite a nice surprise, as there is a good amount of chocolate, for us chocoholics! The chocolate taste is instantly recognisable as Cadbury's.
Once you get into the middle, you reach the white bit of the egg and the orange "yolk" These as you can imagine, resemble the inside of an egg, but that's where the similarity ends. For unlike a real egg, the Cadbury Crème egg filling is made from a very sweet fondant inside. The fondant filling has the consistency of toothpaste (not sure I should use this word in a chocolate review!), however this will give you an idea that the fondant is not watery or runny inside. This results in a very thick, sticky and sweet filling inside the egg. I find the thickness of the chocolate shell actually works with the sweet fondant inside, as it balances the sweetness slightly. There are different ways to eat this egg, you can scoop the fondant out with a spoon, lick it or smash it, the choice is yours.I personally find that I cannot eat more than one of these eggs at a time, as they do tend to get sickly sweet and I therefore enjoy this product as a treat, every so often for this reason.
You will find them in most large supermarkets, sold singularly for about 50p upwards. The price may seem quite high for such a small product, but due to the amount of chocolate used for the shell and the amount of filling, I think it compares very well against other similar sized products. Multipacks are available, but not in all stores. They are popular at specific times of the year, such as Easter, where you will see them around shops a lot more.
They are great fun for children and adults alike. If you have never tried them, I would definitely say that it is an experience worth trying.Enjoy!
