"Cadburys' Double Decker"
I wouldn't describe myself as a chocoholic, but I do often have a craving for chocolate. Most of the time I manage to suppress the urge, but every now and then - when I'm stressed especially - I cannot resist the lure of a nice bar of chocolate to help de-stress me. But which bar do you choose..? With the huge amount of choice out there, it's often hard to decide. I tend to go through stages of buying one particular bar again and again, and when I've had enough of it, move on to another type. This sums up my relationship with Cadbury Double Decker: if I haven't had one for a while, I look forward to it, but after eating a few bars, I can't wait to move on to something else! No prizes then for guessing that today I shall be reviewing the humble Cadbury Double Decker....
A BIT OF BACKGROUND
The bar itself has been in existence since 1976. The British obsession with Double Decker buses during the 1970s inspired Cadbury to start making a chocolate bar of the same name. It was not only an instant success but has remained popular to this day.
THE WRAPER
The "Double Decker" wrapper has a strip of orange, and then a strip of purple, and has in white letters the name of the chocolate bar - Double Decker. On the back it has the nutritional information of the bar and the ingredients used. TEAR OPEN THAT WRAPPER!
As soon as you remove the wrapper, you are faced with a chunky bar of around 5 inches in length and 1 inch in height. It looks fairly substantial - almost a meal in itself! The ripple effect in the chocolate indicates that the bar has been drenched in milk chocolate and this adds to the bar's overall appeal.
When you open the wrapper, you are also greeted by a rich, chocolaty smell. I love the smell of Cadbury milk chocolate, so cannot wait to take a bite.A TASTE SENSATION: A Yum Factor!
Biting into the bar is truly a taste sensation. As you sink your teeth into the outer chocolate layer, they first meet the soft layer of nougatine, which is deliciously sweet and chewy, with a consistency a bit like caramel. Then, you hit the hard, crunchy chocolate base. On the wrapper, it is described as a 'crunchy cereal filling', which might explain why I can taste Rice Krispies buried without the chocolate.
Of the two layers, I prefer the top half - the chewy nougatine. However, it is the combination of both layers which makes this bar unique. They provide a wonderful contrast in texture and flavour which makes the overall taste experience very enjoyable. I find the fact that the bar is only 5 inches long a bit of a pity, as the bar is so enjoyable, you just wont to have moor and moor!
NUTRITION
The nutritional information isn't the easiest to find because it appears in very small print on the back of the wrapper. I almost had to get out my magnifying glass to see it! Luckily, I managed to find out what I wanted to know, anyway, Each bar contains 275 kcals-(calories) and 11.4g of fat, which is probably no worse than any other chocolate bar, but still pretty bad anyway.
The wrapper states that the bar may contain traces of peanuts and Soya, so if you are allergic to either of these, it is best to avoid the bar altogether. Its better news for vegetarians, however - all the ingredients used are suitable for someone on a vegetarian diet.
WHAT I THINK
Overall, I am very fond of Cadbury Double Decker's and recommend them. However, as I said at the beginning, I personally find that they can get a bit boring if you eat too many.
Prices vary depending on where you buy them, but individual bars retail for around 41p and multipacks of 4 for 99p.DID YOU KNOW?Here are a few facts to finish up:
Double Decker's are flavoured with coffee.
As well as the standard variety, there is a Double Decker with Nuts.
Advantages: Different to other chocolate bars, very tasty Disadvantages: Not very good for waistlines!
...Decker
The Double Decker
Cadbury created the Double Decker chocolate bar back in 1976 when the British public were fascinated by Double Decker buses.
Packaging
The Double Decker bar stands out from others on the shelves as it has a bright orange and purple wrapper. Double Decker is written across the front of the wrapper in white writing.
On the back of the wrapping is nutritional information.
Price
Double Decker's can be bought pretty much ... ...I do my weekly shop. At Tesco, a single bar costs 38p and you can also buy a multi pack of 5 bars which costs £1.28.
The Double Decker
Once you open the wrapper, you have a fairly large chocolate bar which is about 5 inches long and about an inch thick. The chocolate on the top of the bar has a sort of rippled effect all along the top of the bar.
Taste
The Double Decker bar is very moorish and certainly different from you average chocolate bar. ...

Cadbury uses high quality beans from Ghana and Malaysia and they are then processed at their cocoa factory in Chirk which is in North Wales. To cover the inner layers of products such as Double Decker the centres pass through a waterfall of chocolate on a conveyer belt. Nougatine is made from sugar or honey mixed with a variety of roasted nuts. Almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts are common although in the ingredients list on the packet it doesn't tell us exactly, and instead just lists it as nougatine so be aware this is a nut product. There is also a warning later down that the product may contain peanuts and soya. White nougat is made with beaten egg white and the brown is made with ...

So you’ve been away for the weekend, you’re on your way home, the traffic is rubbish and it’s p*ssing down. Suddenly, out of the gloom, there looms an oasis. The beautiful sirens guide you in and enchant you towards the area named ‘Shop’. Row upon row of temptations whisper ... ...me, and ultimately found its way into my hot little hand, goes by the name of Double Decker.
A daring clash of bright orange and restrained purple encase this monstrous bar of chocolate. Bold writing pronounces it to be a Double Decker that’s Big Up Top. Are you missing something up top? Well not last time I looked. We’ve got something in common, this Double D and me. At 65g a bar though, it’s nearly double the other part of my own vital statistic. ...

Hmmm.....I don't want to know what some of you are expecting when you read the titles of some of my ops!
Sadly, I'm not offering my views on big-breasted females, but on yet another chocolate bar, this time the Cadbury's Double Decker. I'm impressed by the changes made to the product - I swear when I was younger they were about half the size!
Now, in one 35p bar, you're faced with a delightful 65g of chocolate heaven. Can't complain!
Aesthetically, ... ...purple wrapper, advertising the Double Decker in big white letters and telling us that it's "big up top", there's nothing in particular that makes the bar stand out - apart from the fact that the orange and purple are well-known, as the Double Decker has been around for ages.
Let's get the boring bit out of the way: these are definitely not a healthy option, containing a whopping 300calories per 65g bar, and 13.6 grams of fat! To be honest, though, ...

Advantages: Old favourite updated - delicious Disadvantages: Nut allergies
Oh no - not more chocolate. That's how my stomach and head feel today - I am in serious need of some rigorous detoxification -but that can wait until later on this week. First I need to make room for a CadburysDoubleDecker with Nuts.
The original DoubleDecker was launched in 1976. Its name was allegedly derived from the British obsession with doubledecker buses in the 1970's (prompted no doubt by classic TV programmes such as "On the Buses" and the children's programme " DoubleDeckers"). The original DoubleDecker is two layered - the top layer is smooth nougatine and the bottom layer is crispy cereal. All this is wrapped in Cadburys milk chocolate.
So after nearly 30 years of popularity, Cadburys decided to revive and update the DoubleDecker image by the February 2004 launch of DoubleDecker with Nuts. The tag line ...
Advantages: It`s Chocolate Disadvantages: None worthy of mention
been eating a CadburyDoubleDecker and suddenly exclaimed that I really wished it had some nuts included! I bought a DoubleDecker because I wanted a DoubleDecker! It?s really that simple!
Imagine my shock then when I stumbled upon the latest bastardisation from the Cadbury camp ? The DoubleDecker with Nuts! At first I presumed it to be some sort of joke, some hidden camera stunt at my expense, but no ? this was real life, and this was a real life chocolate bar staring me in the face. Such was my shock at this new kid on the chocolate block it took all of my strength and resolve to pick up two bars and put them in my basket. But I was not about to pass up the chance to try and confirm my fears about it, so for the greater good of chocolate fans everywhere I parted with the 41p needed to make the chocolate mine.
Packaging wise they ...
Advantages: It's Chocolate. Disadvantages: Very hard!
I woke up really early this morning and so by 9 o'clock I was starving. I trundled down to the local corner shop looking for a sweet treat. I searched amongst the chocolate bars and found a Cadbury's DoubleDecker with Nuts. It looked nice and I love DoubleDeckers and nuts so I thought I was on to a sure thing.
Now DoubleDeckers are one of my favourite chocolate bars. They have a yummy biscuit layer topped with nougat and covered in chocolate. If you haven't tried one go and get one and try it. Yummy!
*The Packaging*
The bottom half of the DoubleDecker packet is a rich textured purple and the top is a bronze and caramel colour. The DoubleDecker logo is emblazoned across the front and then it says "with Nuts" next to that is a kind of "funky" nutty coloured font with peanuts flying around the edge. The familiar Cadbury logo ...
