In the search for the chocolate perfection I found myself trying something very new for me. I normally prefer my chocolate to be simply that chocolate.

Old Jamaica has been around for a while now so I can't say for sure why I've never endeavoured to taste its exotic charm before. It's one of these chocolate bars that seems to disappear for a bit then resurfaces now and then so it's probably a case of out of sight out of mind.

The blue gold and red wrapper that surrounds this bar is perhaps the closest to exotic we are going to get, the bar itself is far from exotic. This is such a pity because I do believe that had this bar been created in the true image of it's name it might well have went down as one of my favourites, but sadly it is now off my to eat list forever.

Chocolate should significantly taste of chocolate or there is no point calling it chocolate, this bar however has only trace evidence of such an ingredient, the most powerful part of the bar is the strong rum essence flavour. It is quite overwhelming and has a tendency to catch the back of your throat when you least expect it. Apart from this bitter and somewhat unpleasant taste there is the hidden secret of the juicy raisins which do serve slightly to counteract the bitterness.

The raisins are substantially surrounded by all that Cadbury's chocolate which has the essence blended into its usual perfect texture. I have purposely omitted the adjective delicious from the Cadbury's chocolate since there is all but a hint of its taste. It might well have been a better bar for rummies had the flavouring been real rum, but it greatly hides the taste that should have been the prominent one.

All in all I did not particularly enjoy this experience and it saddens me to call a chocolate bar inadequate but unfortunately this one is. If you do enjoy the taste of rum you might find this enjoyable, but it's the false rum taste that will take over and apart from the odd juicy piece of fruit there is little else to make this bar even slightly appealing.

They are available now and then for the princely sum of £1.29 if you care to look around, but for my money I'd much rather buy 4 ordinary bars and have a proper choco feast.
