Every now and then, my dear mum decides to treat us. Whether its on a day out, a trip to the cinema or a special meal for tea, she usually makes a big effot at least once every two to three weeks. I love these times, when me, my mum and two younger brothers go out for a posh meal to a big fancy restuarant or we drive 3 hours to a theme park and spend the night in a hotel. Sometimes though my mum is slightly tight for money and has to put the treat off untill the next week, although she doesnt do this often, when she does she feels really bad and she always trys to make it up to us- introduce Cadburys Roses.
Couple of months back, my mum had just paid for a trip to Germany and was slightly strapped for cash and so our monthly treat was going to have to wait. So, around that time when she had just popped to the shop for milk and bread she came back with a little treat for each of us- just a small one. My mum, knowing me, oh so well, decided the perfect thing to get me would be something that would only see the face of the earth for a very short time, before being demolished. She handed me a carrier bag and I peered my nose in, excited about what I was going to find. Mmmmm thanks mum!
I pulled out the thing secreted inside the carrier bag and I was thrilled with my mums choice. I hadnt had these in ages; Cadburys roses. I remember the last time I had, had them was at my good friends sleepover and we'd played a game like cards to see who won the most, I had one quite a few and I had remembered being extremely happy and had enjoyed most of them. I kissed my mum thankyou and off i trotted upstairs into my room to begin tucking into my new treat.
The box these came in came in a similar carton to those that Mars celebrations or Mini Heroes come in. A cardboard carton, almost cuboid in shape but slightly wider at the top than it is at the bottom. The main colour on the box is a bright blue, quite a nice colour and I think would stand out on the shelf; obviously swaying my mum to buy these over any of the other types. There is a pattern of red almost abstract roses on the top three quarters of the box, and the bottom quarter is a deep purple shade. The cadburys logo is written in the traditional purple in the top left hand corner, and underneath the word 'ROSES' is written in large white writing. The box is pretty minimalist but I'd say it looks quite attractive and I'd be tempted to buy these in the shop.
My carton was fairly large, in fact one of the largest types you actually get. It was 480g. Quite large for only one person but I was determined to make these last longer than an afternoon. My mum managed to purchase these from our local corner shop, now our corner shop is fairly good and sells the essentials as well as some less popular products and ones harder to get a hold of, so I'd say you could probably purchase these anywhere, ranging from the leading supermarkets, smaller newsagents, probably cinemas and other places such as airports and so on. Now as my mum bought these for me, I'm not 100% sure how much they cost from the corner shop. However while in Asda a few days after I managed to sneak a peak at the different prices and the different sizes;
*Mini carton- 80g- 93p
*480g carton- £3.24
*Large drum - £9.99
*Cadburys roses truffles 200g - £3.38
*Cadburys roses luxury selection 200g- £4.94
Now obviously as the contents of each of the different boxes of chocolates contain a varied range and amount of sweets, its impossible to give exact nutritional information about each carton. However Cadburys have been thoughtful and given and average per 100g, this is alearly stated on the back of the box. Each 100g is likely to give you around 495 calories and 25.5g of fat. This is roughly the same as most chocolates similar to these, definitly not healthy but it is chocolate after all so what can you expect. On the back I am also given some helpful information about allergys and who should avoid these. These are not suitable as they contain nuts, and the sweets which do not contain nuts still may contain traces. I am also told they contains cereals, milk, lactose, whey, brazil nuts, hazelnut and soya lechitins. So anybody with intolerences or allergys should steer clear. Overall I think Cadburys did a great job providing us with useful information to do with nutrition and etc.Anyway enough of the bad stuff. I was now sitting on the sofa in my bedroom, in front of the television with a glass of fruit juice and my newly recieved carton of Roses. Enough faffing about, it was time to tuck in. I opened the box at the top, this was fairly easy because you just had to pull up the flap which was quite softly stuck down with glue. Great. The chocolates werent in a plastic bag or anything like that, they just lay freely in the carton, so this saved some time. The chocolates came up quite near to the top, not quite up to the top but Id say slightly further than 3 quarters. There looked to be a huge selection of chocolates inside and so began the test. I pulled out one of each of the chocolates and placed them on the arm of the chair, waiting to tucking in my mouth was watering. Not due to the aroma, as there was none, infact I didnt smell any hint of chocolate atall, but purely down to anticipation and excitement. So off I went and tucked in...
Hazel Whirl- If I remember correctly the hazel whirl was the first one that I tried. It was in a purple wrapper with orange "twists" and to be honest didnt look too attractive, none the less into my gob it went. This chocolate was nothing too special to be honest. A thick layer of cadburys milk chocolate, which held in place a whole hazelnut. It was pretty boring and definitly not one of my favourites.
Brazilian Darkness- Now I didnt know what to expect with this one as Im not a fan of brazil nuts, and I dont like dark chocolate. The wrapper for this one was a deep red with golld twists on. I bit into this one not knowing what to expect. I was quite pleased with what I found. I had not been expecting it, it was a dark chocolate shell encasing runny sweet caramel and small chunks of brazil nut. Although i dislike dark chocolate this one was quite nice though not a favourite by any means.
Chocolate Bite - The next one I tried was the chocolate bite. This one sounded quite plain and ordinary however I didnt waste any time in tucking in. This one was kept in a plain prple wrapper, suggesting it wasnt going to be anything special. When I bit into it however I was greeted not only with milk chocolate but also small biscuit peices. The biscuit was quite crunchy and provided a nice texture. Overall quite a nice surprise.
Strawberry Dream- I was really looking forward to this one as I absoloutly adore strawberry creams. Again I am not a fan of dark chocolate but you dont really taste it in these chocolates. The wrapper was a pink foil wrapper and looked quite pretty. I ate all of these the first day I got the box and most of the time I let it sit on my tongue and let the fondant centre dissolve. The chocolate was quite thin, but this was a good thing as it tasted quite bitter and anymore of it would have been to much.
Praline moment- Another nutty one. This one was in a silver foil and looked quite "posh". This is a pretty plain sweet and nothing to fancy about it. A milk chocolate shell secreting a praline centre. It didnt taste overly nutty which is good if your not a nut fan, but for somebody looking for a strong tasting nut chocolate I wouldnt reccomend this one.
Country fudge- This used to be my favourite when I was a little girl and I always used to make my grandma save them for me when she had a box of these. Maybe it was to do with the pink girly wrapper, or maybe it was because it was a long sweet, giving the impression it was larger. Or more likely it was to do with the creamy taste of the buttery fudge incased in a cadburys milk chocolate shell. Definitly one of my favourites in the box.
Chunky truffle I also love these ones too and I usually allow them to melt on my tongue. These ones come in a turqouise wrapper and are cube in shape, and quite thick. The chocolate seems to be alot creamier and smoother than the others in the box and I usually make sure I get at least one of these when the family has them.
Golden Barrell - What the name suggests. This is in a gold wrapper with thin red lines across it. As the name says it is in the shape of a barrell, not overly thick but definitly not thin either. The milk chocolate shell is creamy yet sweet, and the runny caramel inside is very similar to that in the cadbury bars with caramel. its safest to pop these into your mouth in oner, other wise the caramel will run down your chin and you could end up fairly sticky.
Cadbury dairy milk- Perhaps the plainest chocolate in the box. This is a mini version of the original bar. It is in two chunks and is in a tradition purple cadburys wrapper. You can snap it in half to make it last longer, like i do or if you prefer more of a mouth ful you can pop the two chunks in your mouth in a oner and allow to sit and melt happily on your tongue. Yum!
Tangy orange creme- I wasnt sure what to expect with this one. I am a fan of terrys chocolate orange, however things like orange mathmakers I find to be an unusal taste and I dont really like them. This chocolate was in an orange wrapper and was cubed in shaped. I bit it cautiously and was met with a white cream inside- i was expecting it to be orange. It was very nice and wasnt overly orange, however there was definitly a slight tang to it. Overall I did enjoy this one and was pleasently surprised by it.
Caramel Velvet- The name of this one sounds luxury and very posh, and the taste was devine aswell. It came in an almost green wrapper and was quite small. Its similar to the caramel barrell but I think on expection that the milk chocolate was slightly thicker and although the caramel was runny it wasnt as drippy as the barrel. Very nice indeed.
Caramel- This one came in a gold wrapper, i only got two of these in my box which was shocking really seeing as I got a large amount of the others. It comes in an almost square shape and has a slight rippeling ontop of the milk chocolate. Inside is the usual caramel, however I was shocked to find it was more chewy, almost like toffee, but not quite, and slightly like fudge, but again not quite. It was more sweet and sickly than creamy, yet still pleasurable.
Hazel in caramel- I really enjoyed this one. It came in a purple wrapper and was quite weird in shape. The 3 textures worked together beautifully- smooth milk chocolate, runny creamy caramel and a sweet almost caramelised nut. I really enjoyed these ones and made sure nobody got there hands on them. If i had one critisim about this one, its that it left me gasping for a drink, probably because the caramel was so sickly.
Orange crisp- The last one I tried was the orange crisp. As the name suggests it comes in a bright orange wrapper and its in an almost hexagonal shape. I again wasnt too sure what to expect as like i said im not a fan of some orange things. I bit into this and was met with an akmost milk chocoalte truffle, yet not so smooth and hidden inside were small tangy orange crispy bits. They were really tangy and tasted like chocolate orange matchmakers- which I am not a huge fan of. This definitly wsant one of my favourites.
***
There you have it. Overall I was very pleased with tastes, textures and quality of the chocolates inside. They are suitable for everybody, or almost everybody because there is a huge variety and there is bound to be something for everybody inside. If I had to choose my top 5, I think they would be:
Strawberry Dream
Country Fudge
Any caramel ones
Truffle
Hazel In Caramel

...hope it's good enough!
Cadbury 'Roses' are one of the most popular chocolates out today. Usually in competition with Nestle 'Quality Street' and the latest Mars 'Celebrations', alongside others, for special occasions like having a new baby, birthday, new job, or just a general thank you.
Altogether, there are 14 different chocolates in the 'Roses' box. Not just 14 chocolates, 14 different kinds of chocolates!
●A BIT OF INFO●
'Roses' ... ...The main advertisement for Cadbury 'Roses' was for Coronation Street when they first started off with being sponsored by Cadbury's, 'Roses' were the first chocolates to 'sponsor'. The Cadbury 'Roses' brand is worth over £58million, and sells 50% more than Turkeys at Christmas Time, and are sold nearly a billion times all year round, every year, so if you took all those chocolates that were sold in a year and put them in a line, they would go around ...

THE CENTRES:
CADBURY DAIRY MILK (purple wrapper)
This is simply two conjoined small squares of ordinary, unadulterated Cadbury's milk chocolate, as we all know it. Nice and creamy with that good old Cadbury's taste. I'd guess that the size of each square is a little smaller than would be in a bar of Cadbury's chocolate. Although it tastes exactly the same, I found this updated version of Cadbury Dairy Milk contained within ... ...piece of chocolate (for the Cadbury Dairy Milk one) into 2 small cubes, as surely the taste is the same? It just seems as if Cadbury's have now lost a piece of history by doing that.
This box of chocolates was rather nice, but not wildly exciting and with a limited selection of fillings - well worth the £1.99 I paid for them though. I'm not sure what the full price usually is; I guess in the region of £3.29 to £3.99, and if that's so, then I really ...

Advantages: Full of delicious flavours Disadvantages: They get eaten too quickly
...monopoly on Christmas chocolates, until Cadbury unleashed their Roses collection onto the British public. From the very first day I sampled the delights of the chocolates, I was hooked. Of course, Roses now came in many shapes and forms but I bought the 1.5 kg tin, which cost me £6.48, as Tesco have seen fit to reduce the prices of these dramatically, just in time for Christmas.
The tin is a sky blue colour, and is circular in shape. Of course, ... ...handy storage device. Cadbury always seem to plonk a 200g bar of Dairy Milk chocolate into the tin in the run up to Christmas, and this year is no exception, giving just another reason for me to buy Roses every year.
The Roses are all individually wrapped, in brightly coloured foil wrappers, but even so, a strong smell of Cadbury chocolate emanates from the tin.

Advantages: Good way of saying thank you - an all time favourite Disadvantages: They may make you feel sick if you eat too many in one go!!
...British coastline over three times. Cadbury Roses outsell Frozen Turkeys by 50% during the Christmas period.
Over 1,300,000,000 Roses chocolates are sold every year in the UK – enough for 25 per person.
To summarise – quite a good selection for milk chocolate lovers – but only 1 dark chocolate, maybe a little too many caramel varieties. I think my favourite has to be the Hazelnut whirl – what’s yours?

Advantages: Love the chocolate Disadvantages: Too many nut ones
I have to be honest Cadbury's Roses are not my favourite choice of chocolates, on the plus side you do get to eat lovely Cadbury milk chocolate which is my favourite but for me I do not eat nuts, not an allergy thing more a taste thing, I do not mind the coconut in Bounty Bars but I do not like the hard solid nuts and there are a few nut chocolates in Roses hence this is a waste for me.
The good news is there is plenty of variety with Roses so there is alway something I like when the box is first open. Roses come in a variety of container sizes to suit all budgets and party sizes although to be honest it is Christmas when I tend to see these in the office most often.
My favourites are the caramel and toffee based chocolates, the caramel barrel is probably my first choice as it is full of goey caramel and lovely milk chocolate shell ...
Advantages: Lots of yummy choices Disadvantages: what?? its a sweet so there are none
Well here we are again Christmas over and tins and jars of sweets all over the place, no lack of choice considering how many their are. Perhaps though the best choices are available in the CadburyRoses selection, which are available in that huge tin, the not so huge jar, and the humble packet which contains but a few sweets and costs the earth.
Prices for these jars are competitive and there are many special offers about at this time of year but an average price is around a fiver, which ain't too bad considering the amount of sweets this not overly sized jar can hold.
The jar is made of clear plastic with a brightly coloured bluish top which is easily screwed off and on, but why someone would wish to replace it is beyond me LOL. They are great for sharing and have the most delicious contents held within, and a little leaflet ...
Advantages: They were a present Disadvantages: Lots I did no like
I received a box of these a while ago as a gift they are packed in an attractive box and are perfect for a little thank you gift.
This luxury pack of roses chocolates were introduced by Cadbury in 2004chocolates. I guess they wanted to update and try and get people attracted by a new edition of the roses chocolate.
I noticed a nut warning on the pack so not suitable for those with a nut allergy.
Anyway sit down and enjoy these chocolates with me.
The box is only slim; I open it and disclose 1 layer of chocolates in the box. I search underneath them; no more choc’s just the one layer. How many chocolates 1, 2, 3 4, 14 chocolates in total mmmmmmm not many to share, just as well you are not really here with me.
These chocolates do look nice attractively laid out. First I popped a zesty orange cream into my mouth ...
