In 1824 John Cadbury who was a young Quaker opened his first shop in Birmingham. He actually started as a greengrocer and somehow ended up selling drinking chocolate! Such a simple start, but since then Cadburys has been has linked with chocolate. Probably one of the first brand names that come to mind when you think of a sweet treat. '''** Cadbury Thins **'''
Well, these little delights look exactly the same as the normal Dairy Milk bars, except they are half as thick. (Hence the THIN name). The point of this chocolate is to taste the same on the lips but NOT spend a lifetime on the hips. Because it is half the size of a normal bar it also holds less then half the amount of calories. 100 calories and 8g of fat. A big difference to the full size ... more
** Me, Myself & Chocolate **
Whenever I begin the long road of trying to lose some weight one of the main things I feel I need to leave out is chocolate. This is a bit of a problem for me as I love chocolate. Any kind, any flavour, you name it and I'll eat it. The thing with chocolate is the way it melts in the mouth and leaves a tingle on the tongue. Oh, it's enough to put a smile on my face! I must say I do love most varieties of chocolate and you will rarely see me turn my nose up at anything sweet, but my favourite mouth watering sweet treat is Cadburys Dairy Milk. It is pure, milky, velvety, sweet indulgence. But it doesn't do to be eating this when I want to lose the pounds. A normal size bar (49g) of Dairy Milk chocolate has 255 Calories and a whopping 14.6g of fat!!!!! All in that one little bar! So this definitely has to be off the shopping list. 100%, most definitely this is not going anywhere near my lips.... Well... that is until I found these little beauties...Cadbury Thins
** Cadburys The Famous Bigwig **
In 1824 John Cadbury who was a young Quaker opened his first shop in Birmingham. He actually started as a greengrocer and somehow ended up selling drinking chocolate! Such a simple start, but since then Cadburys has been has linked with chocolate. Probably one of the first brand names that come to mind when you think of a sweet treat. The most famous product of the Cadburys Empire is the Dairy milk bar which first launched in 1905 and since 1913 has been the brand leader for entire chocolate world... oh and my world too!
** Cadbury Thins **
Well, these little delights look exactly the same as the normal Dairy Milk bars, except they are half as thick. (Hence the THIN name). The point of this chocolate is to taste the same on the lips but NOT spend a lifetime on the hips. Because it is half the size of a normal bar it also holds less then half the amount of calories. 100 calories and 8g of fat. A big difference to the full size bar! So I know what you're thinking.... Hmmmm it has to be lacking in something! Well not really. When you first unwrap the packaging the bar looks almost the same as the old Cadbury Animal Bars. (If you remember them, they were always in selection boxes at Christmas, very thin, square bars aimed at children, but I haven't seen them in years!). The thin bar has four large flat squares for you to enjoy and it looks quite delicate. When you pull a bit off it makes a fairly loud snap sound, which shows you just how thin the bars are. Now, to be honest it doesn't give me the same indulgent feeling as it does not swirl my mouth around with chocolate. But it does make you take your time a little more and the slower you eat it, the more it melts and it does give you a little mouth watering experience. It still has its creamy taste which is from the fresh natural milk that Cadburys use and I'm glad that they haven't subsidised it for powered milk in the thin version. The thin bars are definitely enough to give you a chocolate kick and in an odd way make you take your time a little more and enjoy the chocolate taste rather the gobbling it up all at once. To some degree, you could just buy a normal bar and limit the amount that you eat. Maybe a couple of squares a day. But unfortunately I don't have the willpower so these thin bars are perfect for me!
** Packaging **
The packaging is almost identical to that of the original dairy milk bar with the famous purple and white silky packaging. On the front of this bar the Dairy Milk logo has been replaced with an elegant THIN logo and there is a little bright blue square in the corner advertising the 100 Calories feature. So you can't really miss them to be honest.
** The frustrating Part **
I can't find them anywhere! As a one off I found these in Pound land for a box of 6 they were £1. (Yes they were in date and no I don't know why they were so cheap! Oh and they were also in English!). As you can imagine I did stock up and I bought 3 packets. I know it sounds greedy but they were a bargain! Since they have run out of stock which was very quickly, I can not find them in any supermarket at all. So, if anyone does find these on sale please let me know! ;-)
** All In ALL **
When I bought these they were a bargain! But regardless of that the taste is the same as the normal Cadbury Dairy Milk Bar but with a little less guilt attached!
I have been asking ciao to include these for weeks now, but because of the name they seemed to think it was a bar of chocolate. I finally asked Cheekychicken to help, and she got me the category, thanks Mel.
SO WHAT ARE THEY?
**************
Well, they are biscuits, but biscuits with a difference. For a start the description on the box is very eye catching, It?s the usual purple coloured box that you associate with Cadbury and written all across the front in large white letters it says Signature, and it?s scrawled as a signature usually is. Underneath this are the words Dairy Milk Biscuit Thins, crisp biscuits set in thick Cadbury chocolate.
There is a picture of a biscuit and to be quite honest is does look like a bar of Dairy Milk, except the underside of it is a biscuit.
When you open the box up you have to slide a plastic ...
Advantages: awesome taste, fantastic price and good packaging Disadvantages: ....
, basically, its not too hard but not too soft at the same time. Just in between.
Appearance and Price
The packaging as you would expect from a Cadburys product is shiny. This means that you can't really miss it on the shelves. In terms of shape, the Cadbury Fudge is long and relativey thin. The bar itself isn't that big, but that leads me on to another point. Since the bar is quite small, Cadburys have kept the price lower than any other chocolate bar on the market today. Its only 15p per bar. Thats the same as a Freddo! Personally, I think this is brilliant value. Especially since it tastes so nice. Instead of making the bars bigger, Cadburys have also brought out multipacks. Although these are only in packs of 5 or 10. Obviously if you buy these multipacks you will be making an even further saving on the already fantastic value.

Advantages: It's a cake... Disadvantages: Foamy filling. Chocolate too thin.
Cadbury's mini rolls are one of those cakes that I remember fondly from childhood - the sort of treat that would magically appear in my school lunchbox quite frequently.
I haven't had them for a while, so decided to pick up a pack of 6 of the milk chocolate variety as part of a 2 for £2 offer last week.
The packaging has changed a bit since the good old days...still the trademark predominantly purple Cadbury's wrapping, but the mini rolls themselves are now individually wrapped in a thin plastic wrapper, rather than foil. I think perhaps the foil wrappers feature in my reminiscing - the joy of the shiny wrapper, the fiddling about trying to peel it all off, than being able to roll it into a hard ball & flick it at some kid you didn't like....ahh, those were the days....!
Anyhow, onto the mini-roll itself, which is basically ...
