Now to start with I would just like to say that I have read through all the other reviews in this section about..yes.. Cadbury's Cocoa.. and what are all the other reviews on?....Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate!!

So, here's what I think, the first 'proper' review on the good old fashioned Cadbury's Cocoa on Ciao!!

-----------------------------

First of all, here's a little run-down of Cadbury's and chocolate:-

Cadbury's was started back in 1824 by John Cadbury when he opened his first shop in Bull Street, Birmingham. Entrepreneurs existed back then to! Cadbury's chocolate is now one of the worlds largest chocolate producers. By 1831, the little shop was not 'little' anymore and John Cadbury was a manufacturer of drinking chocolate and cocoa.

Now, Cadbury Ltd is a confectionary division of the Cadbury Schweppes plc which is of course a major name in confectionary and soft drinks.

It was Maya Indians, they still live in Central America to this day, who first discovered the cocoa bean back in 600AD.
It as in Southern Mexico that the Maya grew their cocoa tree plantation which is where they discovered the first wild cocoa tree and saw an opportunity.
Cocoa beans were also viewed as valuable and used as currency.

Chocolate comes from the Cocoa bean (of course). The botanical name for Cocoa is "Theobroma Cacoa" the 'Theobroma' bit means 'God Food'. And to right is it god food!!

There is a lot more to say about Cadbury's and Cocoa, but this isn't a history lesson!!

--------------------------------

Cadbury's Cocoa:-

Can be bought from pretty much any shop, supermarket, and even petrol stations!
It comes in two sizes, 125g and 250g (pictures below)

From Tesco, where I buy mine, the 125g tub costs £1.30 and the 250g tub costs £1.75. not much of a price difference and really cheap considering how long it lasts you.

----------------------------------

Nutritional info:-

As it contains 100% cocoa, there is no added ingredients and is therefore much better for you than 'ready mixed' drinks.

Per 100g there is:-

Energy:- 1342kj/322kcal
Protein:- 23.1g
Carbohydrates:- 10.5g
Fat- 20.8g

Not that bad for you at all is it! And with no added sugar, although bitter, is safe for the whole family.

Ok, the best bit of all this waffle…..HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT COCOA!!!

Get your self a tub of Cadbury's Cocoa, because, of course, you can't make cocoa without it can you!!

1. Then, get your favorite, biggest mug.
2. Fill your mug with milk, but not to the top. Leave about 2 centimeters of air/mug-space at the top…you'll see why in a minute!
3. Get a pan out the cupboard (as you can't possibly make decent cocoa in the microwave!)
4. Pour all the milk out your mug into the pan and turn on the heat. Not to high as you don't want the pan and milk to burn around the edge.
5. (An optional extra) use a little whisk to whisk the milk while it's warming up so it goes nice and frothy.
6. While the milk is warming up, get your mug and tub of cocoa.
7. For a big mug I find about 2 teaspoons of cocoa just perfect and a smaller mug about 11/2 teaspoons but it depends how strong you like your chocolate.
8. when you have put the cocoa in the mug, add a LITTLE cold milk to it, and it has to be cold. And mix up until it goes into a paste. It does eventually trust me!!
9. Now you have a really thick paste, add a little more cold milk to thin it out a bit.
10. Now, your milk should be getting hot so keep an eye on it! When it starts to boil and rise up the pan, its perfect!
11. Pour the milk out the pan, a little to start with to thin the paste a bit more, then gradually add more milk stirring all the time.
12. When all the milk is in your mug, stir briskly to get any lumps out (this also cools it down a little making it just the right temperature to drink immediately!)
13. Now all you have to do is add a spoon of sugar (or two) to taste. I've figured out that if you have no sugar in your tea, then you need one sugar in your cocoa and so on. If you have no sugar in the cocoa, I want to meet you!!!
14. Stir well….
15. Sit in front the tele or get into bed, and enjoy.

It tastes so smooth and perfectly chocolately while the hot milk calms you from the inside. You just don't want the mug to stop producing this yummy liquid!

----------------------------------------------

Down side:-

To me, there is only one downside. And that is all the work you have to go to to make it! But it is definitely well worth it at the end and you can't beat it with 'ready-mixes'.
