Cadbury's Crème Egg Bar
It is no crème egg…its twisted!
I wouldn't call me a choc-a-holic as such, but I do really love my chocolate! One of my favourite chocolate treats are Cadbury's crème eggs, but because of the egg shape it always gets messy, chocolate and crème dripping all over my fingers and quite often over my chin - a great look if you happen to be nowhere near a washroom and have no wipes. Messy and sticky isn't the perfect look.
So when I saw my favourite chocolate crème egg in a twisted bar shape I just had to try it, especially after seeing the weird yet quite funny advert for it with a hairdryer killing a normal crème egg and the twisted bar getting its own back…twisted is perhaps a very apt name for it!
******Background of Cadbury's******
Let me start by giving you a brief background on the company.
John Cadbury opened a small store in his namesake in 1824 in Birmingham which was the foundation of one of the biggest chocolate companies in the world. By 1831 he began to manufacture drinking chocolate and cocoa, the start of the Cadbury manufacturing business as it is known today.
Back then the cocoa beans were imported from South and Central America and the West Indies so John Cadbury began experimenting and eventually came up with a great tasting hot chocolate which were sold in blocks which customers then scraped a little off into a cup or saucepan and added hot milk or water. By 1842 John Cadbury was selling 16 types of drinking chocolate and 11 cocoas.
The company just grew and grew with John taking on a partnership with his brother and factories opening at larger sites. More products were being made, including the first easter eggs in 1875. Cadbury Dairy Milk was launched in 1905. It was going to be called Cadbury's Dairy Maid but the name was changed 6 weeks prior to launch. Only a few years later Bournville Chocolate came about.
During the war Cadbury supported the war effort and over 2,000 male employees joined the armed forces and Cadbury sent books, warm clothes and chocolate to the front line.
Obviously there were many other chocolates launched in between such as milk tray, buttons, mini eggs and curly wurleys, though for more information, visit Cadburys website.

******The Packaging******
Immediately the packaging is recognizable as a Cadbury's range with the blend of red, purple and yellow prominent all over the packaging. The product name, 'Twisted' dominates the front of this foiled packaging with a bitten off piece of the chocolate as an image on the bottom right, inviting you in. The Cadbury Crème Egg logo sits on the top left and the rest of the pack has a bland of purple and red swirl pattern. The nutritional information is on the back which I will cover below.
******Costs******
This chocolate bar has the usual price range on it of 46p, though I have also seen it selling at 50p in the local corner shop, though either price is average these days for bars of this kind and it is well worth buying!
So now you can see it on the shelf and have brought it, it is time for the taste test…
******Taste Test******
Firstly the look of the biscuit really appeals. As you open the package, which is a simple rip/tear packaging, you are met with a sight of dairy milk with a flat base which are domed up with deep ridges to create the swirl effect. It does look as though it is the type of bar you can break into portions easily, though this is not the case and if you do try this you will find yourself in a mess as if eating a crème egg.
The smell is also something I have to mention. If you have ever been to Cadburys world then you should be able to remember the delicious smell from the factory, and this bar seems to hold all of that into the packaging as when you open it for the first time you are hit with a creamy chocolate aroma just inviting you to bite into it, which obviously I couldn't say no to!
Ive had two of these bars and have tried two different ways of eating it. The first straight from buying and the second after putting it in the fridge for an hour.
*Straight From Buying*
The taste is not that dissimilar from that of the normal crème eggs. As you bite through the thick layer of chocolate, your teeth go straight into the crème fondue in the center, and there is quite a bit of it. I do recommend eating it with the packaging still around it otherwise the chocolate will still melt on your fingers like the old style crème egg - it is not a miracle chocolate! The ease of it, though, is that it is the perfect solution for on-the-go consumption and as the chocolate is thicker on the twisted bar opposed to the egg you don't get the crème stickiness on your fingers even if it does melt!
The texture is a lovely blend between the chocolate and the fondue, both melting perfectly in your mouth - perfect for both adults and children!
I would give this a 9/10 in rating eating it this way, losing a small mark only due to the melting chocolate though really this isn't a huge problem and much better then the egg style!
*From the Fridge*
I would not recommend eating your bar this way as it loses everything good that you get from eating it straight from buying.
As you open the pack and take your first bite, as it has been chilled in the fridge you nearly break your teeth on the chocolate as it is thicker than you would first imagine, especially if you are expecting a similar layer size to the egg. If you do manage to bite through without any breakages or sensitive teeth drumming away, the fondue is much stickier and perhaps slightly greasy when eaten this way. It has become thicker in texture and does not have the lovely succulent taste as it does when eaten the other way. It does still melt in your mouth, eventually, though even if it is a hot day outside, you would ruin the delight of this bar if you put it in the fridge.
When eaten this way I would give it only a 4/10 for reasons stated above.
******Nutritional Information******
It seems slightly weird to note the nutritional information within a chocolate bar as if you are on any kind of diet I doubt that this would be in your food plan, though I will note it here anyway as it is required by law on food and so it shall make its way into this review;
Per bar - 210 kcal 29.1g carbohydrate 27.9g of which sugars 9.4g fat 5.8g of which saturates
******Final Word******
I personally love these crème egg bars as much as the crème eggs, perhaps even more so as they are much easier to eat. The price is average and the taste is wonderful! I would recommend everyone to try these lovely bars, especially if you like the eggs.

Advantages: Sweet, readily available at the moment, chocolate is nice Disadvantages: Sickly, fondant is quite tasteless, expensive
I'm not new to these. I discovered them back in 2008 when they were launched. They were introduced as the evil, 'twisted' cousin of the ordinary Cadbury's Crème Egg back in 2008. Where to buy
I bought my most recent Twisted from Spar. It cost 59p which is quite a dramatic increase in price to the original introductory cost of 45p last year. They are available in most shops, and can usually be found much cheaper than 59p. I got three for £1 last ... ...in garages. Packaging
The wrapper is a metallic foil and is an array of purple and red swirls, with the name 'Twisted' emblazoned across the front in a yellow bubble text. There's a picture of the product broken in half, so you know what to expect. It has quite a classy look to it. The bar
It's a pale brown, which indicates without checking that its coating is milk chocolate. The chocolate bar itself looks as if its split into numerous smaller ...

Advantages: Delicious cadburys chocolate. Disadvantages: The yellow fondant is greasy.
As an addicted visitor of this site, I am always on the lookout for new products to review, so I was very happy to find this product.
The fact that my daughter is mad on them also gives me an excuse to buy them, or at least that's what I tell my husband!
The product I will now review is "Cadburys crème egg twisted".
~~~~~~ THE PACKAGING ~~~~~~
Anyone familiar with the original product will be aware that the sweet comes in egg form, this is completely ... ...is obviously different.
The bar is sealed in a foil like packet, with a very distinctive colour scheme, the base colour is bright red and vivid purple swirled together with the familiar yellow and purple of the original egg's logo.
The name of the product is again written in vivid yellow with the "I" of the name "twisted" in a twist to reiterate the name.
At the side is a picture of the bar, split in half with the delicious centre oozing out , ...
Advantages: full of chocolate sweet flavour, filling Disadvantages: unhealthy
When I first came across the Twisted bar, I was delighted. I'd always loved the traditional Crème Egg, and the additional products too (Cadbury's Dairy Milk Bar and McFlurry - ooh, remember the McFlurry? It was heavenly!). I decided not to try this new product straight away though.
Later that week, I saw the amusing advert for the Twisted, with the caterpillar of chocolate dancing around independently. Although it claimed to be aimed at children ... ...I'd bought one. Not long after, I began to see them everywhere I went, and floods of reviews and information took over the internet. It seemed I had no choice; I must give them a try.
After finally paying the promotional 45p for my 23g bar of chocolate and popping it into the fridge overnight, I sat myself own with a much-deserved cup of tea. When I removed the sweet from its appealing red and purple packaging (some things never change with Cadbury's ...
Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of Cadburys Creme Egg Bar Twisted
Advantages: Taste, Creme "egg" all year around, Texture, Unique Disadvantages: Price, High Saturates
Crème Eggs have been a long term favourite as chocolate treats but sadly seem to only be available during Easter, as a result when you do find someone selling them at this time of the year they are hugely over priced. So Cadbury's being the clever folk they are released the Crème Egg Twisted which basically turns the typically egg shaped chocolate treat into a bar form with ridges along the top. The eggs are chocolate shaped like an egg with an egg ... ...with a fondant filling. A complaint of the egg by some is that they are too sweet and sickly, though having never experienced that myself I won't comment, though I would like to add the mini ones work as hurtful little throwing things.
Coming in a shiny wrapper predominantly Red with big Yellow writing over it saying Twisted and an image of a cross section of the bar. So having never actually have one (having recently decided to try every chocolate ...
