I don’t often buy cakes as I prefer to make them, or should I say I shouldn’t really eat them too often, but do enjoy making them! I saw an offer in Tesco the other week which tempted me to buy Cadbury Mini rolls. Of course I knew I had an excuse to eat them so I could review this little parcel of sweetness!

Cadbury Mini Rolls are quite noticeable on the shelf in the shops as they have the purple colour packet that Cadbury is well known for, and there is a picture of the mini roll cut open on the front. My packet has a bright yellow band saying 10 for the price of 6 mini rolls – the reason for me buying them! The packet contains 10 individually wrapped mini rolls, making them good to pop into packed lunch boxes, and hygienic too if you have children (or elderly relatives!) who touch everything on the plate before deciding which to eat!
What are they like? The roll is wrapped in a thin wrapper and is purple in colour with writing in white and some lovely chocolate in the background. Once ripped open, and it’s not too difficult to do that you instantly smell the chocolate, and I couldn’t wait to dig my teeth into the soft roll. There is a thin covering of chocolate which seems to crack as you bite so beware of stray bits falling onto your clothes and melting! Can’t waste chocolate can we? Inside is a very light chocolate flavoured sponge which has some creamy vanilla filling, and it is rolled like a Swiss roll. But as they are so small I would describe it as partly coiled, rather than rolled as in a large Swiss roll. The packet has a thin protective cardboard box underneath the wrapper, and can be recycled.
The flavour? Well it is sweet, very sweet in fact and the chocolate flavour isn’t too strong, it is hard to pick out the individual flavour of sponge and cream filling and chocolate covering as it all amalgamates as you eat it. But having said that I do enjoy eating them! But don’t think you will enjoy this for long as there is very little to a mini roll, I can manage to make it last 3 small bites but I imagine it will only do 2 for some people!
Ingredients? There is 33% milk chocolate, and then sugar is the next ingredient explaining why I thought it was very sweet! There is cocoa and lots of different milk products and whole egg, so people with allergies to milk and egg should avoid these mini rolls. There is a warning that the product may contain traces of nuts, plus a note that they do NOT contain dairy cream, but they are suitable for Vegetarians.
Calories? 120 calories per mini roll, so OK for a treat but eat too many at your peril! There is 6.2grams of fat, and a big 15.2 grams of carbohydrate eat two of these mini rolls and that accounts for â…›th of your daily calorie allowance.
The price? Currently £1.27 for 6 or two packets for £2.30, sadly the offer when I bought mine has finished. That means each little mini roll costs over 20pence.
Shelf life? My packet says best before 17th September , so about 2 months, no problem though as they will soon be all gone!
Uses? Apart from the obvious eating it straight from the packet, these can be cut into small rings and used as wheels when decorating a cake to look like a car. Or cut up and use as the sponge in a chocolate trifle with black cherries or cut up and sprinkle over a mixture of chocolate and vanilla ice cream and whipped cream to make a special dessert that takes seconds and looks as if you have put some effort into it!
Verdict ?
I didn’t really consider the price per roll when I bought my packet as I thought 10 for the price of 6 was good. But now I realise each roll costs over 21p I don’t think I’ll be buying them very often, even though I enjoyed the few minutes of chocolateness! Though I could easily change my mind if I need a chocolate fix when next out shopping.

...to fit in with the Cadbury corporate image.
They are available in multi-packs of six or ten bars which will cost you around £1.09 or £1.89 respectively. Being a bit of a skinflint I paid just 30p for my pack of six bars as they were reduced due to being within a couple of weeks of their use by day. I didn't see this as a problem as with most Chocolate products that I buy I fully intended on consuming them on the day of purchase anyway.

CONCLUSION
It had been quite some time since I last tried these but they have now re-established themselves as a firm favourite amongst my list of treats. I have a lot of fond memories of these as a child and they always remind me of Children's parties. Hopefully I will have plenty of adult memories too.
Thank you for reading. ...

Advantages: Great party food Disadvantages: Chocolate is too crumbly
What a wondrous invention Cadbury mini rolls are. Ones cupboard should never be without these waiting to be opened. They are great as they are just the right size to fit into lunchboxes, great to liven up any plate to hand round to guests who come round for a cuppa and are very good as the ideal party snack that sits pretty on the table or just a plain old hunger filler.
I tend to buy my Cadbury's Mini Rolls in packs of 6 for 98p, which is around ... ...been covered in the famous Cadbury milk chocolate. The rolls themselves are round with a flat bottom, I suppose designed to stand on party plates and the cake has been rolled and filled with filling hence its name. The sponge is your typical plain sponge and is of very good quality ie does not taste of cardboard unlike some and the strawberry jam works well with it, the creamy vanilla is a bit like the cream you get in walnut whipps which is one ...

Advantages: delicious and chocolatey Disadvantages: the children keep eating them!
Even though supposedly I’m grown up, there are times when I feel like a little kid again (quite a lot of times really!). And none more so than when I’m eating a Mini Roll.
I don’t know why really, I can’t remember eating them as a child, but when I sink my teeth into the crisp chocolate coating and then through into the soft chocolate sponge underneath I feel about 6 again! The boxes have a purple foil covering with the famous Cadburys logo emblazoned on it. All the usual information is on there – nutritional, ingredients, addresses and so on. But more of those later.
Open your box and you will find a cardboard tray containing the individually wrapped Mini Rolls. (If you buy a box of 10 there are two layers of five rolls, ...

Cadbury Minirolls are something you probably love or hate. Me, I love them. And while I've managed for a number of years to bypass them on Safeway's shelves, thinking "well, they're a bit pricey considering how long they'll last", Costco have now started to stock them. And now I can get 2 x 10 packs for £2.49.
There are alternatives, yes. I've tried the Safeway alternatives, and the mini swiss rolls (minus the ... ...same. These are made with Cadbury chocolate for a start, so you know that the chocolate will taste nice. It can be a bit "sickly" after several though. The "individual swiss rolls with vanilla flavouring" are also very light in consistency. You know how some swiss rolls can be quite firm and chewy? These are very light, and do at least taste of chocolate. Cadbury's Minirolls are individually wrapped, so if you do resist temptation and put the packet ...

...associated with Cadbury. But then Cadbury have gone for in the kill, they have added a banana yellow flash to the top right corner of the packet and in bold red lettering the two words `Special Edition` stand out like a belisha beacon.
The words `mini rolls` takes on a subtle difference too, it looks like someone has taken a piping bag and squeezed the two words out as stylishly as they could manage but they have still managed to keep the flow of ... ...chocolate `horn of plenty`
Cadbury cannot place enough emphasis on the amount of milk chocolate that is harboured inside of the flimsy packet.
So we move on swiftly and open the outer plastic wrapper to find six newly born double chocolate mini rolls all individually encased in a heat sealed plastic wrapper. It is at this point in time that my thoughts lay with the local council recycling collectors ! Does everything have to be wrapped in duplicate??!

Advantages: Cadbury Chocolate Disadvantages: Insipid weak taste to the ice cream
Last week I went out specifically to buy ice cream for the freezer. Although we make our own, the children love to have lollies and ice cream bars during the hot Summer days, and the freezer needed replenishing.
The latest offering from Cadbury is a variation of their MiniRoll cake range in an ice cream bar. The boxes can be found in the ice cream section of the freezers and are presented in packets of 6, priced at a very reasonable 99p per pack, which equates to just over 16p per bar.
The box is a wonderful vibrant purple colour that can only be associated with Cadbury, and shows a picture of the ice cream bars, with the wrapper temptingly peeled back, to reveal the ice cream delight within. The blurb informs us consumers that the MiniRoll Ice Cream Bars incorporate cool ice cream within their wrappings, and that their covering ...

You can?t taste anything. Ah. Did I omit to mention this was my memory and not yours? Yes that?s my ravenous horde descending on that pile of MiniRolls, and that one that you hold in your hand is the only one I managed to salvage. Would you like me to tell you what it tasted like? Well my friend was that not the whole point of bringing you here? Sit back, relax and watch me enjoy...
Note the soft thin layer of delicious Cadbury milk chocolate coating this roll, smell the delicate waft of chocolate it emits - disappointing really, the lack of banana waft I mean. As I bit into the roll I was met with little resistance as the outer layer of chocolate melted into the soft, moist chocolate sponge and mingled with the delectable banana flavoured cream. No ...
Advantages: Delicious, thick chocolate, tasty cream Disadvantages: Not the healthiest of snacks
Mini-Rolls are a great snack for lunchboxes and eating on the go - small, individually wrapped cakes in the form of a tiny chocolate coated swiss roll. Whilst the market-leader is undoubtedly Cadbury's, I personally think that as far as chocolate mini-rolls are concerned, the Tesco product is infinitely superior - so if you're a regular purchaser of the Cadbury's product, be sure to give these a try next time you fancy some chocolatey temptation.
Tesco's Chocolate MiniRolls come in either a 6 or 12 pack, retailing at 75p and £1.39 respectively. This is considerably cheaper than Cadbury's minirolls, which cost £1 for 6 and £.163 for a supposedly good value 'Family Pack' of 10. This means that per cake, the Tesco's product costs 12p, as opposed to 16p for the Cadbury's brand cake. So, we've established that they're good value compared ...
