CALL OF DUTY 4: Modern Warfare All of the other call of duty series are set in the times of world war one or world war two. To mix things up and to keep the Call Of Duty series fresh and exciting infinity ward have now made a war game set on modern day fighting. I am pleased to say that infinity ward have made a brilliant game and Call of Duty 4 will be played and enjoyed for many years to come!
STORY As I have already mentioned, Call of Duty 4 is set in modern times. You will travel to many different middle eastern countries in an attempt to find the leader of a group of terrorists. The terrorists have a missile which they plan to fire and kill as many people as possible because, well, they are terrorists. You Will have to play as both the US army and the British SAS in order to complete the game and to see two different sides to the war. There are many weapons available to you and you even get to control an Apache Helicopter for one of the missions in a very realistic looking setting. You will also get the chance to abseil from helicopters on certain missions and storm buildings in true SAS/Marine style. Lots of action and a great story makes Call of Duty 4 a must have game...and i havent even begun on the online multiplayer yet.
GRAPHICS Call of Duty 4 has some of the most visually stunning graphics ever seen on the XBOX 360. There is loads of detail put into the game such as Bullets whizzing round the levels and scarring the walls, exploding cars, rain effects, muzzle flash, ragdoll bodies and smoke trails from RPG's, the level of detail is amazing. The enemys and your team all look great and
have fluid motions when carrying out there various tasks around the levels.
SOUND The Sound is also another point where Call of Duty 4 performs brilliantly. Every gun has its own unique sound and sounds different depending on how far away the person is firing from. Grenades in the distance will make a dull thud and up close a loud ear piercing bang. Flash grenades will cause a ringing in your ears and will temperarily blind you. You will also hear your team mates shout out warnings and orders to you during the online matches and in the single player mode.
DIFFICULTY The game controls are very easy to learn and you will find that they are almost identical to other first person shooter games so as to keep the control system simple. There are four levels of difficulty Recruit, Normal, Hardened and Veteran. If it is your first time playing a first person shooter game then the "Recruit" level of difficulty is recommended. There will be a training assault course that you have to learn when first playing the game and depending on how well you do the game will reccommend a level of difficulty for you. There is not much difference between the "Recruit" and Normal game difficulties and you will find that if you use the Recruit level then the game may be a bit of a walk over and slightly short. Once you try the Hardened and Veteran levels of difficulty is when you find out how hard a game can be! The Enemy will be more accurate and you will not have such a high tolerance to bullets, One mistake and you are dead!
ACHEIVEMENTS The Achievements for Call Of Duty 4 are quite hard to obtain. There are simple achievements that you will unlock early on in the game and will have no trouble with. However if you wish to get even half of the 1000 points you will need to complete several of the levels on the Veteran difficulty and this is where the game gets tough! I was dissapointed that none of the achievements are for online play! You will find that call of duty 4 is a brilliant game and even more so online. If you have Xbox Live, and have finished the single player game then you will find that you will only want to play online. You will be hooked!
MULTIPLAYER This is where Call Of Duty 4 really performs! The online Multiplayer makes Call Of Duty 4 the best available online multiplayer game. I used to be a "Halo 3" player but after Call of Duty 4 I don't play anything else online really. The Online levels have been well thought out and planned and you will find that every great shooting spot has a weakness that you will have to keep an eye on or you will be shot yourself! In game features include the ability to call in air strikes and helicopters if you perform well in killing the opposing team. 3 Kills without dying will allow you to use a radar to give away enemy positions, 5 Kills without dying will allow you to call in an air stike and 7 Kills without dying will call in a helicopter to help out your team. However getting upto 7 kills in one life can be very difficult so dont expect to be calling in airstrikes, and helicopters all the time!
The online multiplayer also features a Leveling and ranking system. Each Kill you get will give you experience points towards your next level and rank. Completing online challenges will also give you experience. The online Challenges include 25, 75 and finnally 150 kills with each assault type weapon, 100 kills with sniper rifles, calling in helicopters a certian amount of times, sprinting for 26 miles, winning different types of matches and Loads and Loads more! Each level or Rank you advance will unlock weapons, abilitys and more. So the higher the Rank you are the more upgraded your weapons will become and the better player you will become, but ultimatley the game still comes down to player skill. Once you reach Level 55 and have the Rank of general you have the option to reset your skill level and start "prestege" mode. You will loose all of your weapons and abilitys you have gained and will have to complete all of the challenges again but you will be rewarded with a different ranked badge to let people know you are a prestige player. There are 10 levels of prestige mode so the online multiplayer will keep you going for months and months at the very least! As I mensioned before, you will have abilitys or "Perks". These can be Holding you breath for longer when sniping, Being able to hold more ammo, being able to take slightly more damage and many many more. The Perks must be chosen to compliment the weapon you are using and since you can only have three perks you must choose carefully. For example when using a sniper rifle I like to have a longer time to hold my breath, More ammo and Stronger bullets. This means that My sniping will be more accurate, I will have triple the amount of bullets as usual and because my bullets are slightly stronger, the hope is that one hit will (9 times out of 10) kill. There are many many abilitys and weapons so you will have to find your perfect set ups for the weapons you are using.
If you have ever played the other call of duty games you will remember the "Kill Cam". This is where once you are killed it will show you, from your enemys point of view, How they killed you. In Call Of Duty 4 the Kill cam has been recently updated to show grenades, helicopter and air strike point of view kills. LONGETIVITY
If you do not have access to Xbox Live you will find that the game Will last you a few days if you just rush through on the recruit or normal difficulty. If you want to got after the achievements and Veteran difficulty then the game will last you probably a few months at the most really. However If you do Have access to Xbox Live Call of Duty 4 will provide many many months of entertainment and will probably be you most online played game in your collection! SHOULD I BUY?
YES YES YES! Call Of Duty 4 is one of the top games available on the XBOX 360 and the online career mode will keep you busy for months! As of now I cannot find any flaws with the game whatsoever. The single player story is excellent as are the in game graphics and online multiplayer. Oh and by the way, the ending of Call of Duty 4 is one of the best endings to a game I have ever played!
