I'm sure many people will agree with me when I say this is one of the best around. Taking a break from the World War 2 story line Call of Duty 4 brings the player into the modern warfare, as the name suggest. Gone are the World War 2 weapons and in are the new modern weapons and hello a new threat to the world. I won’t go into the story line because I don’t want to spoil it for you guys reading this but I will say it’s amazing and gripping and the way the game ends will make you want to play the other two if you haven’t already just to know what happens next. I must mention that there two parallel story lines in this game which follow the S.A.S and the US marines. Personally I think the S.A.S story line is a lot better as is the game play however the marines story line has some pretty epic moments.

Gameplay is typical of CoD games however this one doesn’t have much vehicle gameplay other than the AC130 section which is pretty fun and a reasonable length, it’s not over before you know it. Other epic gameplay moments include the stealth missions set in Chernobyl. One particular mission has you sneaking pass Russian soldiers literally at their feet then setting up in a building to sniper at target at a silly distance away. This is actually really well done as you need to take note of the wind direction and speed plus the distance you are away as if you don’t your shot will not be on target and you’ll mess up and have to try again. The map for Chernobyl is amazingly accurate and even features famous landmarks such as the fair ground.

After completing the main story mode you will unlock arcade mode which allows you to go back over the story mission however this time you will be collecting points which are awarded for stabs, headshots, grenade kills and for how quickly you complete the mission, these scores are then updated to a leader board and you can see how you did up against your friends.

Graphics are amazing if not a little out dated now but they still look brilliant especially the snipering missions as other snipers pop out from almost nowhere. The guns look realistic and the environments are believable even know half of the story lines settings are fictional.

The games AI has improved from previous CoD games and your squad mates are actually quite effective and sometimes might even save your life. Enemies are dangerous and even flank you at times to get the better hand.

There’s so much I could say about this game and I haven’t even mentioned multiplayer yet. Out of the box there are 16 maps and 13 different game modes. Most of your time will be devoted to multiplayer as it is amazing. Game modes include the usual death match type games, free for all or objective based games such as headquarters, search and destroy, and sabotage. Linking kills will get you kill steaks which allows you to call in helicopters, airstrikes or a UAV which displays other players locations on your mini-map. The more you play the more experience points you will earn which will allow you to unlock new and better weapons equipment and perks. If you’re looking to buy this game for the multiplayer I would suggest buying one of the newer CoD as there have been so many improvements such as how you earn experience points.

If you haven’t already played this game you really must add it to your collection especially if you love FPS. I can’t think of anything wrong with this game or any reason why you shouldn’t play it. I definitely recommend going out and getting this as you will not be disappointed.
