Call Of Duty - World At War - XBOX 360

----- First Impressions -------

The opening sequence of the game is impressive to say the least with old clips of world war 2 combined with footage of the game. It really gets you immersed into the role and gets you hyped up to play the game. You are then presented with your main menu with several options of gameplay including single player or co-op campaign, and the infamous multiplayer experience.

----- Single Player / Co-op Campaign ------

The Xbox 360 version of the game focuses on the initial battles of World War II in the Pacific and Eastern Europe involving the United States, the Empire of Japan, the Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany. It is told from the perspectives of a Marine Raider and a Red Army soldier and is based on several historical battles, including the raid on Makin Island, the Battle of Stalingrad, the Battle of Peleliu, the Battle of Seelow Heights, the Battle of Okinawa, and the Battle of Berlin. Other versions of the game have different campaigns such as the PS2 installment, which features 13 missions focused towards the end of world war 2. Anyway back to the XBOX 360 version!
I was very impressed with the single player campaign during the easier difficulties but it is vertually impossible once you get to veteran. One shot can kill you and every time you come out of cover the enemy always seems to know where you are. They also seem to have an infinite amount of very accurate grenades - very annoying. The campaign isnt very long and when comparing is to COD4 seems somewhat rushed in production. The campaign can be played alone or in co-op with upto 3 others either on a single console or over XBOX live. The campaign still runs well even with four player co-op, which is impressive and huge fun!
There are 2 game types when player in co-op mode. Competitive mode allows players to score points for kills and completing objectives. You can gain combos for multiple kills and then compare scores at the end. This adds a very competitive edge to gameplay (as the name suggests!) and also increases the longevity of the campaign trying to increase your high score. There are also achievments to be had in this mode for getting the highest score etc.

------ Multiplayer -----

I was in two minds when i heard about the multiplayer modes for this game, mainly because its pretty much an exact copy of the COD4 MP, which dont get me wrong was incredible, but i was hoping for something more. Changes include kill streaks, with 7 kills now getting you a pack of dogs attacking your enemy, which accounts for some awesome killcam moments!
You're bound to feel right at home in the multiplayer menus of the game if your a Call od Duty veteran with all the same game modes as COD 4 with the addition of ' War ' which is effect is just a slightly different take on the domination mode. There are 10 more ranks in each prestige in COD WAW, so dont expect to complete this one so fast because it takes ALOT longer!
The multiplayer contains all new world war 2 weapons and perks, which give gameplay a fresh and vibrant feel and the addition of drivable tanks gives each game mode different tactics.

----- Graphics -----

COD WAW uses the same graphics engine as the previous installment, which means things are very much the same as before. Scenery and level designs are detailed and incredibly realistic, however player models arent really up to scratch as they dont seem to fit in with their surroundings due to shadow and lighting issues. Overall, very similar to COD 4 with a few extra textures and effects = Good.

----- Sound -----

The sound is this game is truly unbeatbale. Its obvious that alot of effort has gone into making this game seem as real and immersive as possible. Examples of such exellence include grenade sounds being dulled if they explode around corners and cool actors voices that never get old.

----- Conclusion -----

This game has been criticised heavily for just being a complete copy of COD 4 but there are many subtle changes that make this game a different experience to previous titles. It really comes down to whether you prefer WW2 or modern day guns and gameplay to whether you buy this or COD 4. They are both incredible.
