Advantages It works!

Disadvantages none

Calpol is a pain relief for children. You can buy it as age six plus or from 2 months plus. It contains paracetamol and it's very important that you read the instructions and do not exceed the stated dose.

I don't like having to use Calpol and only use it if I have to. I know some people like to use it as soon as their baby shows the first signs of teething or as a preventative before injections but I'm not one of those people! I try to only use it if my grandchildren have a temperature or if they are clearly unwell and teething.

It comes in a purple box and inside is the glass bottle. The bottle as a child safe screw cap lid where you have to push down and turn so it means that children can't get the lid off themselves. It sometimes also means that Grandma's can't get the lid off either if they're having a weak day like myself sometimes does!

The calpol itself is pink/purple and is strawberry flavour. It is quite thick which is a good thing as it means that when you're pouring it onto your spoon it doesn't just rush out, instead you have more control over it.

A small plastic spoon comes in the box with 2.5ml and 5ml side.

The calpol is sugar free which is good although it tastes so sweet it's hard to believe! The taste is very nice and not at all like a medicine which is why it is a big hit with young children!

When we've used this it has been when the grandchildren have been teething or unwell and I have found that it works very well. They seem to be a lot more content within a few minutes of having a spoonful and it has worked very well in taking down temperatures. When my granddaughter was admitted to hospital with swine flu it was calpol that they kept giving her in there and it worked very well.

I really do recommend this but I do think it's a shame when people use it as a 'prevention' as if they are afraid of their child being a little unsettled. Drugs should be only used when needed.

Definitely recommend this it's worth every penny.

This never seems to bring my daughters temperatures down so we end up giving her ibuprofen and a top up of this about 3 hours later
