Yes it's another perfume opinion and I know I said I wasn't going to go near the perfume department in Boots for a while - but I'm easily lead astray you see! I blame my sister who practically dragged me kicking and screaming towards the perfume counters in Boots over Christmas! after liberally spraying L'Eau D'Issey on one wrist and Eternity on the other I eventually succumbed to temptation a few weeks later and bought both perfumes.
Calvin Klein launched Eternity in 1988, unlike some of it's counterparts from that decade Eternity has lasted the course. When ever I think back to perfumes launched in the 80's I always end up thinking about the more "in your face" perfumes such as Dior's Poison, Calvin Klein's Obsession and Yves St Laurent's Opium, this could well be due to the fact I had friends who practically bathed in all of these perfumes. I of course might have been guilty of sporting the odd subtle squirt of Obsession from time to time!
In the decade that saw the rise of the yuppie, power dressing and a society that became more and more of a throw away society,it comes as a surprise that Calvin Klein attempted to market Eternity with the help of some wonderful black and white stills as a perfume inspired by the whole concept of ever lasting love and intimacy. The perfume was supposedly blended using a range of classic and contempary scents to produce a perfume that reflected timeless quality and a modern style. Given that this perfume is now 15 years old and still one of Calvin Klein's best sellers they might just have got that right! As the by line in the adverts states "as long as intimacy goes on so will Eternity".
Most perfume sites classify Eternity as a romantic, floral perfume and for once I am in agreement. Eternity is one of those perfumes where you will get people asking "What perfume are you wearing?" and you'll also get a fair few complements. It's the kind of perfume you wear when you're feeling confident and contented with life. It's understated, but in the same breath screams class.
As with all Calvin Klein perfumes the packaging is very understated and minimalist. With a cream box which does not hide the fact it's made of recycled card. Along the top in grey lettering you'll find the name Eternity. It's subtle and to be honest I find over dressed perfume packaging rather off putting - I tend to shy away from "in yer face" looking perfumes. On opening the box you'll be greeted with a bottle which is very art deco in style. Given the decade it was first manufactured in the simplicity of the bottle is rather surprising. The only slightly unsubtle thing about the sleek oblong shaped bottle would be the silver T shaped lid which incorporates the push down sprayer. But having said this it is in keeping with the art deco style Calvin Klein was so obviously after. One word of caution the push down button can be very stiff at first.
Eternity is a blend of the following notes: mandarin, freesia, sage, narcissus, lily of the valley, marigold, jasmine, rose, amber, sandalwood, patchouli and musk. With a blend such as this you really would expect a very floral smell and slightly heavy smell. Thankfully this is not the case with Eternity.
Eternity on first spraying can only be described as awful! I walked away from the counter rather disappointed the first time I tried it. The first thing you notice on spraying is a rather odd smell, slightly metallic mixed with a musky fresh tobacco smell. When I mention tobacco I'm talking about the odour you get when say you smell a packet of rolling tobacco not the odour that unfortunately clings to the clothing of us smokers. It was after about 5 minutes when the top notes had died down I noticed a slight change in the smell. Gone was the metallic smell I could practically taste, the tobacco smell had most definitely gone but it still smelt odd and decidedly musky. I was going to put on my never to try again list in all honesty till after 30 minutes I had another sniff. By this time the perfume had obviously settled down to produce a very subtle light fragrance that was now rather pleasing to my discerning nose! It a light slightly fresh blend of floral/earthy aromas with just a subtle hint of musk and patchouli.
Eternity is one of those perfumes where thankfully given it's smell on first spraying you do not have to keep re spraying. I've worn it to work and it's light smell is still evident some 8 hours later. This might be due to the fact I have the more concentrated Eau De Parfum so I'm unable to testify to the staying power of the Eau De Toilette but I would not have thought it would be that much different.Given it's staying power and the fact you only need a couple of squirts to smell good a 50ml bottle should last you well in excess of 12 months.
As with all designer perfumes Eternity comes with a range of accessories: Eau De Parfum and Eau De Toilette - 30ml,50ml and 100ml bottles, shower gel, body lotion, deodorant spray and soap to name a few.
With a recommended retail price of £36 for 50mls of the Eau de Parfum it is definitely advisable to shop around to pick up a bargain.I have seen it in various shops recently on special offer for about £27. I was lucky to get mine on Strawberrynet.com for £16.95 including postage. Unfortunately this offer is no longer available but you can still pick up a bottle on their for under £25.
Another recommended perfume from my rapidly growing collection! I'm now avoiding Boots till at least next pay day!
Advantages: A simple, but lovely scent Disadvantages: Speculation abound
My Calvin Klein Eternity scent came in a 30ml clear bottle, with a very simple rectangular design, and a silver stopper which put me in mind of a key and lock.
The presentation box also follows a simple theme, and is white with silver lettering. It cost me £16.90, which is actually quite reasonable for this brand at this smaller amount.

I was attracted to the basic design of this perfume. I find that a great deal of manufacturers try ... ...though they are attempting to persuade you, without a doubt, that within them lies a heady cocktail that will smother your senses.
Personally, I prefer subtelty, and I instinctively reach out for the plainer packaged perfumes, as they promise a rather more gentle scent with which to enveloppe yourself.
The price I paid was good. Just because perfumes tend to be expensive, it doesn't mean you can't shop around. Some of the stores we may associate ...

Advantages: A light, feminine fragrance that isn’t overpowering Disadvantages: Can become quite sickly if too much is applied, quite expensive as it is an eau de parfum
Eternity, made by Calvin Klein is a perfume that I didn’t actually realise that I liked. This is because my English teacher at school saw fit to wear an unacceptable amount of it and the classroom always had that characteristic perfumed smell. But with school finished long ago and the bad memories of English put to the back of my mind, I find that I have rediscovered Eternity and, believe it or not, I actually like it.
I blame Ciao for reintroducing ... ...about twelve years ago by Calvin Klein and in the late eighties, everyone with a hint of fashion sense seemed to be wearing the latest perfume from this respected designer (rumoured to be created to celebrate Klein’s own wedding). It has quite a floral fragrance and comprises citrus and rose with a subtle hint of mandarin. To be honest, there are a mixture of top and base notes but these are impossible to describe without listing the full ingredients ...

Advantages: Lasts for ages, a true classic Disadvantages: A bit pricey.
My first experiece with this perfume was about four years ago, when hubby to be bought an excellent purse spray for my Christmas present about 12 days after we met. He went to his mum's that year and left me alone, but hid this under my fake silver tree. I didn't find it until he called me and told me to look for it! I am now practically guarenteed a bottle every Chrismas from someone, as I always get through it by my birthday. First, a short bit ... ...a huge hit. It is still regularly featured in magazines as a good one too buy. Of course, now you can buy all sorts of other fripperies to go with it, including the ubiquitous shower gel, bodysprays, shampoo and all that. In addition, there is a mens range containing almost as many products, so you can coordinate with your loved one. Now, the financial implications:
The women's perfume retails for about £35 for 50ml eau de parfum in Debenhams and ...

Advantages: Lasts all day. smells fresh and yummy! Disadvantages: cant think of non!
...and, now an owner of Calvin Klein's Eternity, every time I spray some, it reminds of of that ferry crossing. We boarded at lunch time, had dinner onboard and then wandered around the shops (duty free of course!) then, I stumbled across this one. I'd, for some reason, never smelt it before, but it was addictive. Unfortunately though they only had the Eau de Parfume in stock, which for my pocket money at the time, was far to expensive so I managed ... ...big words at the bottom…" Calvin Klein". I carried on unwrapping this dainty little box in great expectation of something really great! As I got the bubblewrap off it, I was faced with yet another layer of plastic cellophane, but this is a good thing as it shows its genuine…. I think! I got the cellophane wrapping off it and plonked it all in the bin.. then the fun…opening the box! It felt like Christmas for some reason, I was strangely excited about…Perfume?!

Advantages: Smell is OK Disadvantages: Nothing makes it stand out, bottle is too chunky
half the fun of the perfume. This one however, is not the nicest looking bottle in the world. As I said I bought it because it was cheap, and therefore overlooked the bottle, but under normal circumstances I probably wouldn't have considered this.
It comes in a tall rectangular glass bottle, the same shape and design as the regular Eternity fragrance, the main difference being that this has a backdrop of blue sky and white clouds, as well as a green leaf design. The bottle is quite chunky and masculine looking, and like I said not my favourite perfume bottle ever.
CalvinKlein say that this perfume 'captures the essence of a perfect summer day by the sea.' So, from that I would expect a fresh, clean scent.
The top notes (what you can smell when the perfume is first sprayed) are apparently 'wet bamboo leaf', crushed basil and golden ...
My mum used this perfume once and when i smelt it on her, i was instantly addicted to it. I asked her where she got ti from and she showed me the bottle. I took an instant liking to the design of the fragrance, a simple yet elegant galss bottle and the first word that popped itno ym head was nature. This is because it is blue and green which makes you think of earth and fields and skies. The scent itself is also very summery as it is pleasant and sweet whilst reminding you of flowers. A hint of sandalwood can also be detected in the perfume. I received a bottle of this after asking for it for my birthday. As the scent is so casual and flowery, i use it pretty much everyday not just for special occasions. ...
