Review of "Cambridge Arts Theatre, Cambridge"
The Cambridge Arts Theatre has really pulled itself together and is now, for my money, just as good as I’ve found in London. The theatre really does try to cater to all tastes. I like good plays and have seen some fantastic ones here. They still pull in big names, we’ve seen Dereck Jacobi and Stephanie Cole to name but a few. The last production we saw there was Copenhagen on tour from the National a few weeks ago. The Theatre also sometimes offers opportunities to ask questions of the writer, director or actors after some of the showings. We got to see Ariel Dorffman do this, which was great.
The theatre itself has comfortable seats and is clean. You won’t end up with a restricted view anywhere in the auditorium and there is very easy access for disabled people. Remember to order your drinks from the bar for the interval before you go in, however, as there is usually a huge queue.Prices obviously vary from production to production. A tip for students, though, there are sometimes standby tickets available for performances which are not booked out. These will only cost you £5 with a valid student card.
Another idea would be to try out the roof garden restaurant before the performance. The food's not so cheap but it is good. All in all this is a great little theatre with some excellent productions so I suggest you give it a go.
