Cambridge Audio DVD53

Advantages: Great spec/features
Disadvantages: Sony's poor laser lifespan

...With £350 to spend I bought a Sony thinking would be getting a better quality player with great features. The latter was true, however the unit started to play up (discs sticking or unable to read) just after the warranty had expired. Eventualy the unit would not read any discs. Research on the net unveiled many other dissapointed Sony DVD player uses with the same problems; it would seem that the laser unit has a very short lifespan (700 hours in my case). Estimates to get the unit repaired came in at about £90. Ended up replacing it with a brand new Cambridge Audio DVD53 with better spec for just £99.95 from Richer Sounds, which has outclassed the Sony. In my opinion Sony have to sort this problem out as they are driving customers away. Due to my experiences with this product I feel cheated by Sony and certainly won't be buying... Read review

Advantages: Cheap and produce great quality sound
Disadvantages: Dont buy if you have a very powerfull amp.

...I recently purchased these speakers for £50 at richer sounds when i traded in my complete system to buy cambridge audio seperates. These speakers have awsome sound quality this is mainly due to the bi-wiring terminals which means that you can run two sets of wires to your amplifier if it is also bi-wireable, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter on each speaker this means that the quality of sound is maintained and there is little distortion, They also have a down firing speaker and produce exellent bass with out losing any higher pitch. They have RMS power handling of 90W at 8 ohms impedance. These speakers work in harmony with my cambridge audio system and if you have a cambridge audio amp and are short of money i recomend theses speakers.... Read review

Advantages: Cheap and excellent quality
Disadvantages: No frills

...Cambridge audio have been going for some time now, and they are, wait for it.....BRITISH. I bought a fairly low end CD by Cambridge audio from Richer Sounds. I've had it for 12 months now, and not experienced 1 problem. This sounds excellent, and much better than my previous CD player. They also produce Amps (amongst others) and their low spec amp is unreal for the price. The more you pay, the more power you get, but that's not to say that the cheaper ones are no good. They are perfect for the majority of enviroments. I would not hesitate to buy Cambridge audio again, and have heard nothing but praise from anyone who's experienced their products. OK, so I admit, they don't look great, and don't come with a huge variety of knobs and dials, but so what. They are good value, excellent quality and sound superb.... Read review
